Pink Floyd Reaches A Landmark Number With Its Latest Bestseller

Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii debuts at No. 3 on the Top Album Sales chart, becoming the band's tenth ... More top 10 on the tally and its latest U.S. chart success. (Photo by Michael) Pink Floyd returns to the Billboard rankings in the U.S. this week, as At Pompeii - MCMLXXII opens on five tallies. The project launches inside the top 10 on all but one of those lists, as it was fueled by strong sales tied to the band's recently re-released concert film of the same name. It's not surprising that At Pompeii enjoys a lofty starting point, as Pink Floyd remains one of the bestselling groups of all time. The rock outfit can still move a massive number of units whenever a new release drops. The group reaches toward the top of one special ranking with At Pompeii, as the band nearly captures another No. 1. The set sold a little more than 20,100 copies across the U.S. in its first seven days of availability, according to Luminate. That sum is enough to place the title at No. 3 on the Top Album Sales chart. That list, published by Billboard weekly, ranks the bestselling full-lengths and EPs in the country, regardless of genre or format. At Pompeii starting in third place earns Pink Floyd its milestone tenth top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart. The group has sent 21 different projects to the tally, which means that as of this frame, just under half have reached the uppermost region. Two of those efforts — The Division Bell and Pulse — hit No. 1. The former reached the summit in mid-1994 and held for four weeks, while Pulse opened in first place in June 1995 and led for just one frame. Some of the band's other highest-ranking efforts include Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd, which peaked at No. 2, and several releases that reached No. 3, such as The Endless River, Animals, and now At Pompeii. Pink Floyd's latest release also lands inside the top 10 on the Vinyl Albums, Top Rock Albums, and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts. It misses the throne on the first two by just one space. On the Top Rock & Alternative Albums roster, it matches its performance on the Top Album Sales list, debuting at No. 3.

Pink Floyd Misses Its First No. 1 Album By One Space

Pink Floyd returns to the Billboard charts with a brand new album this week. Not a traditional studio collection, but a live set that has become a global bestseller. At Pompeii - MCMLXXII is buoyed by the success of the concert film of the same name, which was re-released in theaters earlier this year and raked in millions of dollars at the box office. The performance proved that the English band still not only commands a sizable fanbase around the world, but can also generate income and major wins in the busy entertainment world with older material. At Pompeii debuts on five Billboard charts this week. It nearly earns the group a new No. 1 on several tallies, but misses the top spot by just one frustrating space on multiple lists. Despite being widely recognized as one of the most influential and bestselling rock bands of all time, Pink Floyd has never reached No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums chart. Of course, the list was introduced long after the band's initial burst of creative and commercial power, but it's still rather surprising that the legendary act has never scored a leader on any list with the word 'rock' in its title. This frame, At Pompeii opens at No. 2, coming in behind only Stick Season by Noah Kahan. That project returns to the peak position after dipping to No. 2 last frame and celebrates a full year at No. 1. At Pompeii also starts in the runner-up space on the Vinyl Albums chart, which isn't genre-specific, but focuses solely on the format. On that roster, Bad Bunny hits No. 1 thanks to the vinyl reissue of his most recent album Debí Tirar Más Fotos. Pink Floyd has previously topped the Vinyl Albums tally, with both The Wall and The Endless River reaching the summit. Several other collections have peaked in the runner-up space, and that roundup now includes At Pompeii. Pink Floyd's latest offering comes in third place on two other tallies. At Pompeii starts its time on the Top Album Sales and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts at No. 3. It only misses the top 10 on the Billboard 200, where it kicks off at No. 28.

Pink Floyd Barely Misses Its First No. 1 Album On A Chart It's Never Ruled

Pink Floyd's At Pompeii debuts at No. 1 on five U.K. album charts but settles for No. 2 on the ... More Official Album Downloads list behind Andy Bell's Ten Crowns. The set debuts on half a dozen tallies in the country this frame, dominating all but one of them, as Pink Floyd couldn't quite beat one other well-known musician — at least when it came to one specific form of consumption. At Pompeii debuts at No. 2 on the Official Album Downloads chart, which ranks the most downloaded titles on platforms like iTunes across the U.K. Pink Floyd comes in just behind Ten Crowns by Andy Bell. While Bell may come out on top on the downloads-only ranking, At Pompeii is a quick winner on seemingly every other list on which it appears. Pink Floyd's current focus starts its time at No. 1 on the Official Albums, Official Albums Sales, Official Physical Albums, Official Vinyl Albums and Official Rock & Metal Albums charts this frame. Amazingly, Pink Floyd has never scored a No. 1 on the Official Album Downloads chart. The band has collected multiple winners across all of the other rankings where At Pompeii debuts, but No. 2 remains the group's high point on this specific list. Pink Floyd reached that position for the first time with The Endless River, which debuted in November 2014. So far, the rockers have collected five top 10s. Bell, best known as the lead singer of the synth-pop band Erasure, has released full-lengths on his own in the past, but Ten Crowns marks a special win for the legendary musician. The full-length enters the Official Albums chart — the ranking of the most consumed projects in the country — at No. 14, earning Bell his first solo placement on that particular roster. At Pompeii, meanwhile, easily conquers that roster. Ten Crowns lands just behind Pink Floyd on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts and also begins its time inside the top 10 on the Official Vinyl Albums list. The project gives the singer-songwriter his first top 10 smash on all of those purchase-only rosters as a soloist.

Pink Floyd Breaks Its Tie With Several Major Rock Bands

More than half a century after it was recorded, At Pompeii - MCMLXXII by Pink Floyd is the No. 1 album in the United Kingdom. The legendary rock group's full-length project debuts atop almost every tally on which it appears in the country, where the band remains one of the most famous and celebrated of all time. At Pompeii is yet another addition to Pink Floyd's growing list of No. 1 projects. With this latest triumph, the band ties with several other major acts and manages to pass several others, extending its run of wins into another decade and once again demonstrating its timeless appeal. At Pompeii earns Pink Floyd its seventh No. 1 on the Official Albums chart, the ranking of the most consumed projects in the U.K. With seven champions now included in its discography, the band is tied with Prodigy, Muse, Blur, and Kasabian for the fourteenth-most No. 1 albums among non-solo musical acts in the country's history. Before At Pompeii arrived, Pink Floyd was already tied with an even greater number of bands on the list of those with the most leaders. Acts with six chart-toppers each include The Police, Arctic Monkeys, Genesis, Kings of Leon, Radiohead, The Script, Foo Fighters, and The Chemical Brothers. Scoring seven No. 1 albums is an impressive feat, but it's still only about half as many as the top performers on the all-time list. The Beatles lead with 15 No. 1 full-lengths, while The Rolling Stones follow closely with 14. A handful of other names have also reached double-digit leaders, such as U2 with 11, and ABBA, Queen, and Coldplay with 10 apiece. Stereophonics and Take That have earned nine each, while Oasis, Led Zeppelin, R.E.M., The Killers, and Westlife all claim eight No. 1s on the Official Albums chart. At Pompeii enters half a dozen U.K.-based albums rankings this frame and leads all but one. The title narrowly misses the top spot on the Official Album Downloads chart, but manages to become a bestseller across every other format.

Pink Floyd Charts A New No. 1 Album Thanks To A Special Re-Release

Pink Floyd earns its seventh U.K. No. 1 album with At Pompeii - MCMLXXII , the band's first ... More chart-topper since 2014's The Endless River. (MANDATORY CREDIT Koh Hasebe/) Pink Floyd live at Hakone Aphrodite, Kanagawa, August 6, 1971. (Photo by Koh Hasebe/) It's 2025 and Pink Floyd is back at No. 1. The legendary rock band scores a brand new chart-topping album in the United Kingdom as At Pompeii - MCMLXXII debuts in first place on the list of the most consumed full-lengths and EPs in the country. Pink Floyd has been on quite the winning streak lately, with both a hugely successful concert film re-release and now a bestselling album to go with it, and both come from recordings made more than half a century ago. At Pompeii - MCMLXXII marks Pink Floyd's seventh chart-topper in the U.K. The group hasn't collected a new champion since 2014's The Endless River, which stands as its last studio LP of original material. Pink Floyd first reached the summit on the Official Albums chart in 1970 with Atom Heart Mother. Over the decades, the group returned to the throne with Wish You Were Here, The Final Cut, The Division Bell, Pulse (Live), and then later The Endless River. Including its seven No. 1s, Pink Floyd has now earned a milestone 20 top 10s on the Official Albums chart. That roster includes some of the group's most successful efforts, which somehow never managed to dominate this all-encompassing ranking, including beloved projects like The Dark Side of the Moon, Animals and The Wall, all of which lived inside the top five for a time. At Pompeii - MCMLXXII shares its name (at least partially) with a concert film Pink Floyd recorded in 1971 in the ancient Roman ruins. It was originally released the following year and has since become not just a huge commercial and critical success, but also the blueprint that which many other musical acts have followed. The movie was recently restored and re-released into cinemas around the world. So far, the film has earned about $6.5 million at the global box office, enough to make it one of the top-performing music-related projects of the year. The film's soundtrack dropped shortly after the movie became a top performer again at the box office and was released in various formats, including — for the first time — on vinyl.
