Clerk held for raping visually impaired girl at govt-run school
Patna: A 50-year-old clerk was arrested for allegedly raping a visually impaired girl at a govt-run school in Patna. The accused was identified as Ajit Kumar, father of an 18-year-old girl. The 12-year-old girl alleged that the school clerk had been harassing her for the past two years and forced her into physical relations multiple times during this period. The matter came to light when the girl refused to return to the residential school after the summer break that ended on June 25. When the family repeatedly asked her to return to school, she narrated the ordeal to her elder sister. After this, the victim's father lodged a complaint at the local police station. SDPO-I, Atulesh Jha, told this newspaper on Tuesday that the FIR was lodged on June 27, following which an SIT was formed. "The accused was arrested and forwarded to jail on the same day. The girl alleged that the school clerk harassed her and forced her into physical relation. She also reported that the accused threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it," he said. "During the summer vacation, she went home but was not ready to return to school after the break ended. Upon questioning, she revealed the entire story to her sister. The statement of the victim was recorded. The police went to the school and questioned the other girls studying there. There is a girl who was aware that such an incident happened to the victim, but no one else knows about it," the SDPO said, adding that further investigation is underway. Hostel warden Renu Kumari said the girl never told her anything about the incident. "Six girls live in one room of the hostel. The girl's allegation should be investigated, and the accused should be punished," she said. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Doctor's Day 2025 , messages and quotes!
