Minister of Education Launches the National Summer Program "Basmat" - Jordan News

Dr. Azmi Mahafza, Minister of Education, announced today, Saturday, from Khawla bint al-Azwar Mixed Secondary School under the Directorate of Education for Naour District, the launch of the 2025 edition of the national summer program "Basmat" at all centers of the Ministry of Education. اضافة اعلان The program, which first started in 2017, involves about 17,000 ninth-grade students from public schools, the Military Culture, and the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) from all directorates of education across the Kingdom, with participation from several ministries, organizations, official institutions, and civil society organizations. Haifa Al-Khraisha, Director of Education for Naour District, expressed her happiness during the launch ceremony at Khawla bint al-Azwar School, stating that hosting this national program, with all its meaningful content, is a source of pride and honor. She explained that the national program includes a variety of activities, skills, and events through which the Ministry aims to invest students' energies and time positively, reflecting on their behavior by equipping them with skills and activities that enhance self-development. The program also strengthens their abilities through dialogue, acceptance, life skills, sports, scouting, cultural, and artistic activities. The activities also include awareness lectures on vocational education (BTEC), the "Haqqaq" program lectures, as well as religious lectures in cooperation with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. Regarding the program's implementation at the directorate level, the program targets ninth-grade male and female students and is applied with the participation of two schools from each of the 42 education directorates, the Military Culture, and UNRWA—one school for boys and another for girls—with 200 students per center. The daily program includes scouting/guidance activities and skills, sports activities, cultural and artistic activities, values from the "Haqqaq" initiative (Crown Prince Foundation), the National Advancement Plan (Jordanian Armed Forces), the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, the Independent Election Commission, Princess Haya Cultural Center, community service, and voluntary work. The students expressed their happiness participating in the program, eager to benefit from all the activities offered, thanking their teachers and supervisors for the implementation. At the end of the ceremony, attended by Dr. Ajmal Al-Twaikat, Director of Educational Activities at the Ministry, along with several education officials, Dr. Mahafza toured the center's facilities, which included awareness, cultural, sports, and scouting activities.

Higher Education Council Revises Credit Transfer Hours for Bridging Students in Universities During its recent session chaired by Dr. Azmi Mahafza, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Higher Education Council decided to amend the number of credit hours transferable for intermediate diploma students who are bridging into Jordanian official and private universities, effective from the 2024/2025 academic year. اضافة اعلان According to the decision, Jordanian universities will equate courses studied by students at the intermediate university diploma level—whether completed inside or outside Jordan—provided that the content match is at least 80%. The maximum transferable credit hours will be 48 hours for two-year programs and 64 hours for three-year programs. The decision applies to students admitted in the 2024/2025 academic year as well as to all students who will be admitted in future years under bridging programs. Mohannad Al-Khatib, Media Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Director of the Unified Admission Coordination Unit, and the Ministry's spokesperson, emphasized the importance of this decision in achieving academic fairness and enhancing opportunities for diploma students to continue higher education under standards that ensure competence and quality. On Sunday, Minister of Education Dr. Azmi Mahafza participated in the morning assembly and flag-raising ceremony at Al-Hussein Secondary School for Boys, marking the beginning of his inspection tour of schools under the Directorate of Education for the Greater Amman Area. اضافة اعلان The tour aimed to closely assess the educational situation, identify needs, and find ways to address the challenges facing the educational process. It included visits to the following schools: Al-Hussein Comprehensive Secondary School for Girls, Ya'qub Hashem Secondary School for Boys, Arjan Secondary School for Girls, Salah al-Din Secondary School for Boys, and Fatima Zahra Secondary School for Girls. During the visit, Dr. Mahafza, accompanied by the Directors of the Buildings and Projects Department, Engineer Issam Abu Ahmada, and the Supplies and Provision Department, Mohammad Al-Manasir, instructed the maintenance of the library at Al-Hussein Secondary School for Boys, including equipping it with cabinets, maintaining the theater, and constructing football, basketball, and volleyball courts, while ensuring that the maintenance work aligns with the school's historical character. He also instructed the necessary maintenance of Al-Hussein Comprehensive Secondary School for Girls, including cosmetic restoration of the old stonework and replacing the school's protective fencing. Additionally, he directed the Buildings Department to expedite the tender process for the maintenance of Ya'qub Hashem Secondary School for Boys, including resurfacing its playground with tartan, as well as the necessary maintenance for Salah al-Din Secondary School for Boys. Dr. Mahafza emphasized the Ministry's commitment to applying educational regulations, particularly regarding school discipline and attendance, noting that the Ministry will enforce rules on success, completion, and failure for students who exceed the allowed number of absences, in coordination with parents. He also monitored the progress of the vocational education program (BTEC) in vocational schools, ensuring the equipment provided by the Ministry is contributing to the program's success. He listened to feedback from both students and teachers, reaffirming the Ministry's efforts to meet the schools' needs according to priorities and available resources.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Azmi Mahafza, chaired a meeting of the Expanded Planning Committee held last night at the Teachers' Club in Amman. The meeting was attended by the Ministry's two Secretary-Generals: Dr. Nawaf Al-Ajarmeh for Educational Affairs, and Sahar Al-Shakhater for Administrative and Financial Affairs. اضافة اعلان During the meeting, which was also attended by department directors from the Ministry's headquarters, Directors of Education, the Military Culture Department, and UNRWA, a number of educational issues were discussed. These included the distribution of ninth-grade students into academic and vocational tracks, the distribution of eleventh-grade students into academic fields, preparations for the general secondary education exams, the readiness of examination centers, vocational education, school infrastructure, reducing unnecessary administrative tasks, school attendance regulations, and student discipline. Dr. Mahafza emphasized the importance of monitoring by education directors and ensuring student attendance, particularly for secondary school students, in an effort to curb the growing phenomenon of student absenteeism. He stressed the importance of reducing unjustified absenteeism rates, pointing out the crucial role of education directors, specialized managers, department heads, educational supervisors, school principals, and their assistants in regulating the educational process. He also highlighted the importance of the role of school counselors and the guidance departments in directorates, stressing the need to involve the local community and development councils in improving and enhancing the educational process. Dr. Mahafza noted that vocational education has begun to gain a good reputation, with increased interest in its specializations. He pointed out that private schools are now offering tracks in this field, and the Ministry aims to increase the percentage of students joining vocational education to 50% in the future. He called for collective efforts to achieve the objectives in developing this educational branch. The Minister also emphasized the significance of the initiative 'My School, My Belonging,' which achieved great success during the previous academic year. The initiative positively impacted the school environment, enhanced students' sense of responsibility toward their schools, and promoted this culture among students. Dr. Mahafza mentioned that the Ministry has prepared a reference guide for this initiative and will hold a special competition across the Kingdom's regions, with valuable financial prizes for the winning schools. At the end of the meeting, attendees shared an Iftar meal, celebrating the blessed Ramadan rituals.
