David Corenswet Makes Pitch to be in 'Batman' Movie in BTS 'Superman' Clip
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors "Superman" has had a strong outing as the first live-action film of the new DCU under James Gunn. The film has grossed over $579 million at the global box office, according to BoxOfficeMojo. More news: James Gunn Reveals 'Superman' Digital Release Date The $331 million that "Superman" grossed domestically beats out "Man of Steel," which grossed $291 million. Simply put, Gunn's first foray with the Last Son of Krypton is a hit. Now, Gunn is set to build out his DCU even more. The current DC landscape is without its Batman, which is set to be showcased in "The Brave and the Bold." That is not to be confused with DC Elseworlds Batman, which is portrayed by Robert Pattinson and is under the direction of Matt Reeves. Batman is the more popular character in terms of live-action films, and even "Superman" star David Corenswet knows it. David Corenswet in "Superman". David Corenswet in "Superman". Warner Bros More news: Jerry Bruckheimer Teases Johnny Depp Return for 'Pirates' Reboot A new behind-the-scenes video from "Superman" shared by ComicBook showcases Corenswet getting ready to film, and engaging in a Batman chant. He also states how badly he wants to be in the "Batman film." '1, 2, 3, BATMAN! ….I'm just trying to end up in that movie. I REALLY wanna be in that movie 🤞' -David Corenswet — (@ComicBook) August 12, 2025 ""1, 2, 3, BATMAN! ....I'm just trying to end up in that movie. I REALLY wanna be in that movie 🤞," Corenswet states in the clip. Now, it would be believed that Corenswet is actively trying to pitch his way into "The Brave and the Bold," but he might also be campaigning to have a role in "The Batman 2." The issue with the latter would mean that Pattinson would end up being the DCU's Caped Crusader, which might confuse everyone. The safer bet could mean that Corenswet wants to be in the new "Batman" film that will fully belong to the DCU. Gunn has already begun to showcase his DCU in shows and movies. The Suicide Squad introduced the world to Amanda Waller, Bloodsport, Peacemaker, and more. Peacemaker has his own show, and the second season is set for release very soon. The "Creature Commandos" were also introduced in animated form, but the idea is that the voice actors will also play their live-action counterparts. "Superman" helped bring in Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner's Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl, and the upcoming "Lanterns" show is set to bring in Hal Jordan. Gunn is slowly but surely bringing in characters that are sure to intertwine in his grand universe. With many characters appearing in "Superman" that are guaranteed for other properties, it would not be shocking that Corenswet appears in the DCU "Batman" film. Considering the ties that Batman and Superman have in the comics, along with previous live-action iterations, the pair is surely going to be fighting side-by-side very soon. How soon has yet to be divulged. For more comics and movies, head to Newsweek Movies.

BATMAN brings TCR therapy out of the shadows
COLD SPRING HARBOR, N.Y., July 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Imagine your immune cells could be modified to attack any kind of cancer. T cell receptor (TCR) therapy has the potential to one day become a universal cancer treatment. But there are risks. Similarities between cancerous and healthy cells can affect the body's immune response, causing T cells to attack unintended targets. TCR therapy needs laser focus to prevent friendly fire. New and curiously named AI developed at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) could provide just that. How does it work, and why do we need AI for the job? In biology, cells announce their state by displaying peptides on their surface. These peptides are used by T cells to distinguish cancerous and healthy cells. However, the number of peptides and TCRs in the human body is enormous, making it nearly impossible and extremely expensive to determine which peptides a given TCR can bind. To address this issue, CSHL Assistant Professor Hannah Meyer teamed with Associate Professor Saket Navlakha and postdoc Amitava Banerjee. The team developed a massive new database containing over 22,000 TCR-peptide interactions. They call it BATCAVE. Spelunking a dataset this deep would take lifetimes. So, the team built an AI model. What do you call AI engineered to comb the BATCAVE? What else but BATMAN. Navlakha explains: "We trained [BATMAN] on a bunch of TCRs and what they recognize. But give me a new TCR that is not in my database, and I need to figure out what it binds to. So, we ask, which are the best peptides I should select to make predictions?" During testing, BATMAN outperformed competing models in accurately predicting which peptides bind to a given TCR. The heroic AI also revealed why seemingly unrelated peptides get caught in the crossfire. "It's not enough to just count differences between potential targets," Meyer explains. "It matters where the difference is and what type of difference it is. Our model is already good enough to tell us if there are peptides we should be concerned about for targeted [cancer] therapies." Despite the promise, there's more to be done before BATMAN can venture from the BATCAVE for potential clinical use. As large as the database is, it houses a fraction of all possible TCR-peptide pairs. More data could enhance BATMAN's performance and help scientists answer fundamental questions about the immune system. "There's a lot of variation in the body's T-cell response," Banerjee says. "If we can accurately predict how these cells and peptides interact, that will be very helpful for designing future therapies not only for cancer, but all human illnesses." The comic will be written by Zeb Wells, known for his extensive work onSpider-Mancomics and as a co-writer for Marvel Studios' upcomingDeadpool & Wolverinefilm. Meanwhile, art will be provided by Greg Capullo, the celebrated illustrator known for his influential work on bothBatmanandX-Mentitles. This crossover marks the first of two collaborations between Marvel and DC in over two decades. The dual releases allow each publisher to explore their character dynamics through distinct lenses, promising a clash of titans that fans have long speculated about. In an official statement, Wells expressed his excitement, saying, 'After writing Amazing Spider-Man (2022) for 60 issues, I told Marvel I needed a break. Marvel told me I could do that or I could write a comic starring Deadpool and Batman with the best Batman artist of our generation. I no longer needed a break.' He added that pairing Deadpool with Batman introduces a new level of tension, joking that 'we've found someone who has even less time for Deadpool's antics than Wolverine.' However, with a city-wide threat from the Joker looming, the two will be forced into an uneasy alliance, with Deadpool inevitably pushing boundaries. Greg Capullo echoed Wells' enthusiasm, calling the crossover a potential career highlight. 'Am I dreaming? This crossover is likely to be the high point of my career… and, I've had a great career,' Capullo remarked, citing his long history with both Deadpool (from X-FORCE) and Batman (from over 10 years at DC).
