'We are the world's boss': The mindset behind Trump's tariff

Speaking at the foundation ceremony of the BEML Rail Hub for Manufacturing in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen, Rajnath on Sunday said that India on the back of its 'homegrown strength' has become the envy of those who think 'we are the world's boss', according to The Times of India. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Many wonder how India is growing at such a fast pace. They are trying their best to ensure goods made in India by Indians are costlier than goods made in their countries. They feel this will ensure that when goods made in India become expensive, the world wouldn't buy them. They are putting in much effort to ensure this,' said Singh. Trump has slapped 50 per cent tariffs on India — he imposed 25 per cent tariff on July 31 as part of the broader rollout for over 60 countries and topped that with 25 per cent tariff last week for India's purchase of Russian oil. Estimates say these tariffs could cut Indian exports to the United States by up to 60 per cent. Firstpost has previously reported that the government is considering floating a support package for exporters from the most vulnerable sectors, such as marine products, textiles, and edibles. Gadkari slams Trump's 'dadagiri' In separate remarks slamming Trump without naming him, Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said that countries doing 'dadagiri' (bullying) in today's world are able to do so because they are economically strong and have technology, according to PTI. Gadkari said that no one will be able to bully India if India's exports and economy pick up pace. 'If the rate of our exports and economy increase, then I don't think we will need to go to anyone. Those who are indulging in `dadagiri' are doing so because they are economically strong, and they have technology. If we get better technology and resources, we will not bully anyone, because our culture teaches us that welfare of the world is most important,' said Gadkari. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In another tariff-related development, the foreign secretary will join commerce ministry officials to brief the parliamentary foreign affairs committee on Trump's tariffs on Monday. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor chairs the committee.

'Sabke boss' mindset behind tariffs on India, says Rajnath

RAISEN: The world sees "new India" as a strong, fast-growing economy whose ability to defeat its enemies with "homegrown strength" has become the envy of those who think "sabke boss toh hum hain", defence minister Rajnath Singh said Sunday, taking a veiled swipe at US President Donald Trump amid escalating tariff tensions. "Many wonder how India is growing at such a fast pace. They are trying their best to ensure goods made in India, by Indians, are costlier than goods made in their countries," Singh said at the foundation ceremony of the Rs 1,800-crore BEML Rail Hub for Manufacturing in MP's Raisen. "They feel this will ensure that when goods made in India become expensive, the world wouldn't buy them. They are putting in much effort to ensure this." Singh predicted that attempts to browbeat India with additional tariffs wouldn't succeed, given how the country had positioned itself. We don't provoke anyone, but those who provoke us won't be spared: Rajnath India is progressing so fast that I could say with full confidence - no power in the world can now stop us from becoming a big power, Rajnath Singh said. Singh said that despite the naysayers, Operation Sindoor was proof that India possessed the capabilities to show its enemies their place without depending on anybody. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo He termed the operation "a befitting reply to the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam" and a loud and clear message that India no longer tolerates an attack on its integrity and sovereignty. "We don't provoke anyone, but those who provoke us will not be spared," he added. The defence minister said the country's armed forces effectively utilising indigenous equipment was crucial to the success of Operation Sindoor. "India was able to reach this position only because it has taken the pledge to become atmanirbhar in the defence sector." Crediting PM Narendra Modi for the transformation, Rajnath Singh said India wasn't just manufacturing defence equipment for its own use, but also catering to the security needs of friendly countries. "Our defence production and export are increasing at an unprecedented pace, touching record figures. This is the new defence sector of new India." Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and MP chief minister Mohan Yadav were also at the event.

" Sabke Boss Unable To Accept India's Growth": Rajnath Singh's Dig At Trump

In a scathing critique of the US tariffs, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today launched a fierce attack on US President Donald Trump, claiming that "some people" are unable to digest the pace at which India is progressing. The senior politician used a subtle "sabke boss" reference for Trump in his pointed jibes, and his message appeared firm and clear - that no one can stop India from becoming a superpower. "Some people are not unable to accept India's progress. They are not taking it well. 'Sabke boss toh hum hain (I am everyone's boss), how is India progressing so fast?' Efforts are now on to make Made-in-India products more expensive when they are exported to other countries," he said at an event in Madhya Pradesh. The minister called this an attempt to make other countries shun India-made products. "But the pace at which India is progressing, I can assure you, no global power can stop us from becoming a superpower," he asserted. Mr Singh this morning laid the foundation stone of the 'Bramha' BEML Rail Hub for Manufacturing in Umaria village of Raisen district.

Rajnath Singh lays foundation stone of Rs 1,800 crore-BEML rail coach unit in MP's Raisen

Obedullaganj: In a landmark move to bolster indigenous rail infrastructure and manufacturing, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the 'Bramha' BEML Rail Hub for Manufacturing in Umaria village of Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh. The state-of-the-art facility, to be developed by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) with an investment of Rs 1,800 crore, is poised to become a cornerstone of India's self-reliant rail production ecosystem. Speaking at the ceremony, the Defence Minister hailed the initiative as a symbol of India's growing industrial prowess and praised Madhya Pradesh's emergence as a promising hub for defence and infrastructure manufacturing. 'The state has political will, stable leadership, and abundant resources. With 48,000 hectares earmarked for new investments, MP is on its way to becoming a 'Modern State',' he said. The new unit -- named after Lord Brahma, the creator of the known Universe in Hindu mythology -- will manufacture coaches for Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, metro trains, and future high-speed rail systems, including bullet trains. It will also produce other railway components, with export-ready broad and standard gauge coaches. The plant will initially produce 200 coaches annually, scaling up to 1,100 units over time. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, also present at the event, noted that BEML has already delivered over 2,100 metro coaches and is actively developing high-speed train prototypes in collaboration with the Integral Coach Factory (ICF). 'The Umaria unit will generate at least 5,000 jobs and play a pivotal role by offloading jobs to MSMEs in meeting Indian Railways' target,' he said. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav described the project as a proud moment for the state and a direct reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' vision. 'For the first time, Madhya Pradesh will manufacture and supply train and metro coaches across the country and the world,' he said. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke about Operation Sindoor on the occasion. Spanning 148 acres in Goharganj tehsil near Obedullaganj, the facility will incorporate cutting-edge technologies, including robotic welding, lean manufacturing, and solar-powered energy systems. It will require 2,000 MVA of power, to be met through renewable sources. BEML Chairman Shantanu Roy confirmed that the first coach is expected to roll out within 18 months. The plant's strategic location is expected to catalyse regional development, with ancillary industries in Raisen and Bhopal districts supplying bogies, interiors, air-conditioning systems, and other components. A dedicated rail coach technology institute is also under consideration to support skill development and technical training. BEML's expansion into Raisen marks a strategic convergence of defence-grade engineering and civilian infrastructure needs. The unit will complement its existing hubs in Bengaluru, Palakkad, and Kolar Gold Fields, and significantly enhance India's rail export capabilities.
