The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has partnered with the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP), Bengaluru to offer passengers a unique cultural experience in its Terminal 2 (T2). The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) which operates KIA, stated that this collaboration aims to transform the airport into a dynamic cultural hub, allowing travellers to engage with the rich tapestry of South Asian art and heritage during their journeys. Through thoughtfully curated interactive installations, featuring the works of celebrated artists, passengers will have the opportunity to explore and connect with the region's diverse creative legacy. T2 is already home to a collection of 210 carefully curated artworks by more than 60 artists. What can passengers explore? At T2's domestic terminal, passengers can enjoy a suite of immersive digital experiences curated by MAP which include: Gallery on Demand – Step into a world of artistic exploration with a rich digital library featuring works by renowned artists such as Jamini Roy, Jangarh Singh Shyam, Jyoti Bhatt, Suresh Punjabi, and L.N. Tallur. The platform also brings MAP's extensive film ephemera collection to life through curated stories built around Bollywood posters, stills, and lobby cards. From tracing the evolution of the tawaif figure to embarking on a journey through Arabian Nights, these narratives captivate and inform. A series of short films further offers intimate insights into the lives and practices of selected artists from the MAP collection. Interactive Puzzles – Engage with iconic artworks like Universe by S.H. Raza, Last Supper by Jamini Roy, and The Lotus Sellers by N.S. Bendre through touch-based puzzles that make art both playful and thought-provoking. Digital Lamp Lighting – Rooted in Indian tradition, lighting a lamp marks the beginning of something auspicious. This interactive feature lets travellers digitally light a lamp from MAP's collection by scanning a QR code and personalising the moment with their name — a small but meaningful pause in the journey. Cumulus – Digital Collection Viewing System – Dive deep into MAP's digitised archive using Cumulus, an intuitive application that lets users search, zoom, curate, and share artefacts. With tools for closer inspection and personal collection building, it's an ideal gateway for both casual discovery and deeper research. Virtual Greetings – Send animated digital festival and occasion-based greetings inspired by artworks in MAP's collection. Travellers can also explore an exclusive retail zone featuring MAP collection-inspired home and lifestyle products — ideal for souvenirs, gifts, or a personal piece of art to take home. T2's international terminal will host an exhibition 'Bhuri Bai: My Life as an Artist', spotlighting the journey of Padma Shri awardee Bhuri Bai. Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru said Friday it has introduced enhanced screening measures for all passengers, and advised travellers to arrive at least three hours before their flight's departure to ensure a smooth check-in, security clearance, and boarding experience. Amid nationwide heightened security alert following the escalation of tension between India and Pakistan, authorities also asked passengers to check with their airlines for the latest flight updates. 'The airport has requested travellers' cooperation and understanding during this period of increased security measures. These steps are aimed at ensuring passenger safety in light of the current security situation,' said an official of the Bangalore International Airport Limited, which operates the airport. Passengers travelling through BLR Airport are advised to arrive at least three hours prior to departure in light of heightened security measures. Please check with your airline for latest updates. In an advisory, the airport authorities stated, 'In view of enhanced security measures, passengers may experience longer wait times at the airport. We recommend arriving well in advance to ensure a smooth travel experience.' According to BIAL officials, Bengaluru airport has seen 49 flight cancellations over the last two days due to the closure of more than 20 airports nationwide. On Wednesday, 29 flights were cancelled, including 15 arrivals and 14 departures. On Thursday, 20 flights were cancelled, with 11 arrivals and nine departures affected. Air India cancelled all flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot until 5.29 am on Saturday, May 10, 2025, due to aviation authority notifications on airport closures following Operation Sindoor. Two international flights to Amritsar were also diverted to Delhi. IndiGo cancelled 165 flights to and from Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Srinagar, Amritsar, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Gwalior, and Kishangarh until 5.29 am on May 10 due to airspace restrictions and airport closures in northern India. Passengers were advised to check flight status and rebook or request refunds via IndiGo's website. SpiceJet also announced operational disruptions to Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar until further notice, impacting departures, arrivals, and connecting flights. Flights to and from Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, and Hindon were affected due to northern airport closures. Akasa Air cancelled flights to Dharamshala, Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Bhuj, and Amritsar due to security-related airport closures, issuing advisories to passengers to check flight status.

Menzies Aviation Opens State-of-the-Art Domestic Cargo Terminal in Bengaluru

Menzies Aviation, a leading global service partner to airports and airlines, has officially inaugurated its advanced domestic cargo terminal at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR). Developed in partnership with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the cutting-edge facility spans 245,000 square feet and is designed to streamline cargo operations while incorporating sustainable infrastructure. The new terminal is a significant addition to Menzies Aviation's global cargo network and is built to handle a diverse range of airfreight commodities efficiently. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, specialized storage solutions, and eco-friendly design elements, the facility aims to enhance cargo handling operations while meeting future demands in the fast-growing Indian air cargo sector. Strategically located on a seven-acre site within BLR Airport, the terminal has been designed with scalability in mind. It can handle up to 360,000 tonnes of cargo at peak capacity, with 80 percent of its total built-up area dedicated to core operational activities. Additionally, the facility provides space for up to 42 trucks to operate simultaneously and features eight floor-level weighted scales to ensure precise cargo weight and volume verification. Aligning with Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) standards, the cargo terminal sets a benchmark for sustainable cargo operations. It incorporates skylighting for natural illumination, advanced ventilation systems for optimal air quality, water conservation measures, energy-efficient technologies, and waste management solutions. Charles Wyley, Executive Vice President for the Middle East, Africa & Asia at Menzies Aviation, emphasized the importance of the new terminal in supporting India's expanding air cargo sector. 'Our greenfield domestic cargo terminal at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru represents a major leap forward in our commitment to delivering efficient, reliable, and future-ready logistics solutions. With India's air cargo market expected to reach 5.8 million tonnes by 2029, this facility is designed to meet both current and future demand as the industry continues to evolve.' Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer of BIAL, highlighted the terminal's contribution to sustainable aviation growth. 'This new domestic cargo terminal underscores our commitment to sustainable development. By integrating eco-friendly practices with advanced technology, we have created a facility that not only meets the rising demand for domestic cargo but also sets new benchmarks for operational efficiency and environmental responsibility. This terminal will play a key role in our vision of establishing BLR Airport as a premier air cargo hub, driving economic growth and unlocking new opportunities.'
