62-Year-Old UP Woman 'Digitally Arrested' For Over 42 Hours
Bareilly (UP): A 62-year-old woman who was "digitally arrested" by cyber fraudsters at her home for nearly 42 hours, was rescued by police on Wednesday. Scammers, posing as government officials, accused Gulshan Kumari of being involved in money laundering case and threatened her with arrest. They allegedly demanded Rs 70 lakh and ordered her not to leave home, monitoring her over phone and video calls, police said. Acting on a tip-off regarding the "digital arrest", a police team reached her house in Premnagar and rescued her. Officers counselled her about cyber fraud and advised against sharing personal details with unknown callers. She later thanked Bareilly Police in a video message, saying the callers told her that an arrest warrant had been issued and warned her against informing anyone. Out of fear, she remained confined inside her house for more than 42 hours until police intervened.

Lawyer challenges her ex-IPS father's order dismissing UP cop, gets it overturned
In a rare courtroom face-off, a retired IPS officer in Uttar Pradesh found himself defending a police dismissal order — only to see it overturned by his own daughter, who appeared as counsel for the suspended case involved former Bareilly Range Inspector General (IG) Rakesh Singh and his lawyer daughter, Anura Singh. In January 2023, a 17-year-old girl travelling on the Triveni Express accused constable Taufiq Ahmad of molestation. A Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) case was filed on the complaint of the girl's father. While the lower court later acquitted Ahmad, the police department dismissed him from appeal against the dismissal was rejected by then Bareilly Range IG Rakesh Singh. Challenging this, Ahmad approached the Allahabad High Court, appointing advocate Anura Singh as his lawyer. In court, Anura argued that the departmental inquiry and dismissal order were flawed and did not comply with legal requirements. During proceedings, her father — the officer who had signed the dismissal order — was summoned to defend the department's action. While Rakesh Singh maintained that the departmental decision was justified, Anura highlighted procedural lapses and alleged injustice to her Allahabad High Court eventually quashed the departmental proceedings and ordered Bareilly Police to reinstate judgment, delivered in July this year, marked a professional win for Anura and a legal defeat for her father. Speaking after the verdict, Rakesh Singh said he was proud of his daughter for performing her duty as a lawyer. "I presented my case, she presented hers. UP man climbs rooftop, attempts suicide after taunts about ‘beautiful' wife; internet relates it to ‘Sholay'
A 25-year-old man from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, who got married forty days ago to a 'beautiful' woman, climbed up to the rooftop in an attempt to take his own life after facing taunts from neighbours who said he was less attractive than his wife. A video of the incident is now going viral on social media. In the video, the man — Gurudev - is seen seated on the edge of his terrace while others try to persuade him to come down. A police officer is also seen among those attempting to convince him, but Gurudev - a resident of Chakarpur Gahi village remains firm in his decision. Gurudev was eventually brought down with the help of villagers and police officials. He was then handed over to his family. Reacting to the viral video, the Bareilly Police issued a statement saying: "A PCR 0164 informed Sirsouli Police Station, Bareilly, that a young man named Gurudev, son of Khushiram, resident of Chakarpur Gahi village under Sirsouli Police Station, district Bareilly, aged about 25 years, had climbed onto the roof of a two-storey building. "Upon receiving the information, the Sirsouli Police promptly reached the spot. Upon inquiry, it was learned that Gurudev Upadhyay had a marriage-related dispute about 40 days ago. Villagers and his family stated that he was mentally unstable due to this, and was in distress and sorrow, attempting to commit suicide by jumping off the roof. "With continuous efforts over three to four hours, the Sirsouli Police team, with the help of the public and a rescue setup, successfully brought him down safely. After counselling, Gurudev Upadhyay was handed over to his family members." Social media users drew comparisons to a scene from the film Sholay, while also urging others not to taunt or ridicule anyone.

45 suspected illegal immigrants detained in Bareilly, 1000 screened
Acting on the directives of the state government, a comprehensive campaign targeting illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants has been launched across Bareilly district. As part of the ongoing 15-day operation, law enforcement agencies have deployed 58 dedicated teams to conduct intensive verification drives across various localities, particularly those housing temporary settlements. Within just two days of the drive commencement, Bareilly Police have identified and detained 45 suspected infiltrators. According to officials, nearly 1,000 individuals have been screened at over 100 locations. The crackdown focuses on areas where people are living in shanties, tents, and other makeshift dwellings. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anurag Arya stated that all identified suspects will undergo a thorough citizenship verification process. Those confirmed as illegal residents will be shifted to designated detention centres, following which their deportation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Preliminary data from the campaign reveals that the highest number of infiltrators were found in Bhojipura, where 11 individuals were detained. Other areas with notable detections include Shishgarh (8), Bhamora (5), Deorania (4), Shergarh (4), Baheri (3), Faridpur (2), and Visharatganj (1). 'These individuals were residing in temporary settlements scattered across police station jurisdictions. Our teams are visiting these locations during both morning and evening hours to ensure no illegal resident goes unchecked,' SSP Arya stated. Special teams have been constituted at every police station in the district, with detailed briefings provided to ensure a coordinated and efficient operation. The campaign is being closely monitored by additional superintendents of police (ASPs) and circle officers (COs), signaling the administration's firm resolve to address the issue. 'This is the first time such a strict and systematic effort is being undertaken in Bareilly against Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators,' SSP Arya added. 'We will not tolerate the illegal stay of such individuals under any circumstances. Those especially living in tents and shanties will be identified, verified, and action against them will be completed within the stipulated time.'
