In her statement at a juvenile detention centre, the 14-year-old said she was first trafficked to Nadiad in Gujarat, where she suffered abuse, a police official told PTI. How the Bangladeshi teen ended up in sex racket Harmony Foundation president Abraham Mathai said the girl had failed in a subject in school, after which she ran away from home. She was then made to cross over into India illegally by a woman she knew, who then pushed her into the flesh trade, Mathai was quoted saying. Police officials also said the girl may have been given hormonal injections to induce premature puberty, and sedatives to keep her from running away. The traffickers and agents branded her with a hot spoon to force her into submission, an official told PTI. Human rights activist Madhu Shankar told the news agency that there are several instances of girls being abducted when they are infants, and then pushed into the flesh trade as minors after being given such injections. Racket may be wider, say cops Those arrested after the Palghar raid include main accused Mohammad Khalid Abdul Bapari (33), who allegedly trafficked the victims to various cities; and Juber Harun Sheikh (38) and Shamim Gafar Sardar (39), also alleged to be agents. Efforts are on to unravel a wider racket. MBVV police chief Niket Kaushik said teams have been dispatched to various places in the country. A case was registered on July 27 under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Foreigners Act and the Passport Act, the police added.

Alarming rise in crimes against minors and women in Rajasthan sparks political debate
JAIPUR: Rajasthan is witnessing a disturbing rise in crimes against minors and young girls. According to data released by the state Police Headquarters, over 200 cases of gang rape were registered between January and June 2025. Tragically, five girls were even murdered after being raped during this period. The data also reveals more than 600 reported cases of sexual harassment, highlighting a growing threat to women's safety across the state. Families are increasingly worried, with many parents expressing fears in sending their daughters to school or college. Crimes related to dowry harassment further underscore the insecurity women face, even within their own homes. In total, 19,600 criminal cases involving various atrocities against women were registered until June this year. Police investigations led to charge sheets being filed in 5,359 cases. However, 4,790 cases resulted in First Information Reports (FIRs) being filed, out of which 4,613 were later closed as false. The police were unable to investigate 9,451 cases. Specially concerning cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 1,631 were registered. Of these, 186 were found to be false, and FIRs were filed in 14 cases for other reasons. Chargesheets were submitted in 744 cases, while investigations are ongoing in 707 cases.

Bangladeshi teen among 5 rescued from flesh trade in Palghar; 9 held
Palghar, Aug 11 (PTI) Police have busted a flesh trade racket in Maharashtra's Palghar district with the arrest of nine persons and rescued five females, including a juvenile, who were allegedly trafficked to different places in the country, an official said on Monday. Six of those arrested and three victims, including the 14-year-old girl, are Bangladeshi nationals, he said. The juvenile, after being trafficked into India, was given sedative-laced drinks and injections, branded with a hot spoon and pushed into flesh trade, the official from Naigaon police station said. Acting on a tip, the police's anti-human trafficking cell personnel conducted a raid in a flat at Naigaon in Vasai area on July 26 and busted the prostitution racket, he said. The victims, including the juvenile, were allegedly trafficked to different locations like Navi Mumbai, Pune in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and other places in the country, he said. Those arrested include main accused Mohammad Khalid Abdul Bapari (33), who was allegedly responsible for sending the victims to various cities for flesh trade, and agents Juber Harun Sheikh (38) and Shamim Gafar Sardar (39), the police said. Among those arrested are two women, aged 33 and 32, who allegedly facilitated the juvenile's entry into India from Bangladesh. They are accused of giving injections of sedatives to the minor girl, branding her with a hot spoon and forcing her into the flesh trade, the official said. Police teams have been dispatched to various places in the country to apprehend others involved in the racket, he said.
