Star Wars actor says the series has ‘gotta give us Battlefront 3 ASAP'

One of Andor's stars has helped bring Star Wars Battlefront back into the spotlight and he's not the only one amongst the cast to be an avid gamer. It's been more than five years since EA wrapped up support for Star Wars Battlefront 2 and while the company has continued to push out new titles for the franchise, it appears to have little interest in making a Battlefront 3. Over the last few weeks, though, Battlefront 2 enjoyed a sudden surge in players, on both PC and consoles, which has prompted some hope that EA will be encouraged to start work on a new sequel. It's not entirely clear what promoted the surge in interest, but it seems to have been a combination of Star Wars Day in early May, the 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith (which became the highest-grossing re-release of all time in the US), and the second season of Andor on Disney+. Speaking of which, actor Muhannad Ben Amor, who played the role of Wilmon 'Wil' Paak in Andor, has also expressed his interest in seeing a third entry in the multiplayer shooter series. In the wake of the show's conclusion earlier this month, he took to Instagram to say, 'Star Wars gotta give us Battlefront 3 ASAP.' He also shared a screenshot of his playtime on Battlefront 2, revealing he's spent about 469 hours on the game: 'Been a veteran since day one. Let's hope Battlefront 3 happens!' Considering Amor would have been a young teenager when Battlefront 2 was out (he's roughly 19 or 20 years old and the game launched in 2017), he's clearly in pretty deep. His original posts were Instagram Stories, so they've already automatically deleted themselves, but fans on Reddit were quick to save them as screenshots to spread Amor's comments around. According to SteamDB, Battlefront 2's concurrent player count has reached over 18,600 players, the most it's ever been since the game launched on Steam in 2020. The game has also shot up the best-seller lists on Xbox and PlayStation 5. Mats Helge Holm, who served as associate producer on Battlefront 2's Celebration Edition, has weighed in on the situation, stating on Reddit that there's interest amongst the old team to work on a sequel: '… having heard around my group of ex-colleagues, we want to get the gang back together.' It's not him but the bean counters at EA who get to make that decision, although this wouldn't be the first time a Star Wars actor influenced one of their games. John Boyega, who played Finn in the sequel trilogy of movies, publicly complained about the lack of a single-player campaign in the 2015 Star Wars Battlefront, which led to EA offering him an invitation to its UK studio. EA never publicly said Boyega's comments contributed to the decision to add a campaign mode to Battlefront 2, but it did get one and Boyega agreed to do some marketing for it. Perhaps surprisingly though, Ben Amor is not the only keen gamer amongst the Andor cast. Ben Mendehlson, who played Director Krennic (a role he reprised from Rogue One), has previously expressed his love for the likes of The Last Of Us, Fallout, and the Civilization series. More Trending He was no doubt surprised to discover then, that Andor co-star Denise Gough was the voice of Yennefer in The Witcher 3; a role she admits she forgets she's done sometimes. That suggests that Mendehlson is probably more of a single-player fan, but we get the sense he'd jump at the opportunity to lend his voice to Battlefront 3 if it featured Krennic. As for what Star Wars games EA is working on, its next release is strategy game Star Wars: Zero Company, which has enough similarities to XCOM to make it one of our most anticipated releases of 2026. A third Star Wars Jedi game is also on the cards and will serve as the 'final chapter' of protagonist Cal Ketis' journey – although it's not yet been formally announced. Ex-Star Wars Battlefront II Dev has an 5-6-Year Plan on How to Get BF3 Made

Ever since the Andor finale, there has been an interesting thing happening with Star Wars Battlefront II in that fans have been making an online campaign for someone, anyone to #MakeBattlefront3. While some fans think that it could be a long shot, a former developer actually has an idea on how they can realistically build-up to a Battlefront 3 with minimal risk and the right development team. As pointed out by @A7ZATRU, someone on the Battlefront II subreddit claiming to be a former dev has pitched that they don't make a Star Wars Battlefront 3 immediately, but instead release a remastered version of Battlefront II instead. A former Star Wars Battlefront 2 developer has shared a plan for Battlefront 3 and success. – Remaster BF2 with improvements for PS6/next Xbox in 2027/28, – If it does well, make BF3 using knowledge from it. Also, some of the devs WANT to come back! — AZZATRU (@A7ZATRU) May 22, 2025 They write: 'Hear me out — no Battlefront 3 right now, but Battlefront 2 remaster for whatever future console is arriving in 2027-2028. Dev time is around 2-3 years. There is a laundry list of improvements that this game could get in my opinion, and getting it updated was always on our wishlist. Once that is a success, then start work on 3. You have a team familiar with engine, assets, and really could kick of developing a 3 within a much shorter time span, and working on feedback from a fresh Battlefront 2 audience base. This would be a 5-6 year plan, but it's more likely to be a success.' Judging by the success of remasters like the recently released Oblivion , it would make sense for Star Wars Battlefront II to get the upgrade treatment. After all, Lucasfilm Games has been focusing on a lot of remasters of older titles (like the original Battlefront II ), and with the recent surge of Battlefront II , it would be a worth a shot to see how viable a new BF project would be. I mean, if Naughty Dog can re-release The Last of Us a million times, EA DICE can stand to make some money off a game that still gets a lot of positive buzz from fans and the community. With Battlefront II also covering three Star Wars eras, there's a lot of room for expansions based on new shows like Skeleton Crew, The Mandalorian , and the recently applauded Andor . We don't know what Lucasfilm Games wants to do now, but a lot are trying to make as much noise as they can about Battlefront 3 while the game has this new momentum. Check out Star Wars Battlefront II now playable for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Dev Wants to 'Get the Band Back Together' For Another Game

A former developer on Star Wars Battlefront 2 has publicly said they'd like to 'get the band back together' and make a Star Wars Battlefront 3. After the success of Andor Season 2 on Disney Plus, there's been a surprising rise in interest in Battlefront 2. The game has seen a bump in players, and both Reddit and especially TikTok have been inundated with fans asking for a Battlefront 3. In a response to a Reddit comment, developer Mats Helge Holme, who worked on both the initial release of Battlefront 2 and it's re-release, said 'Me, and having heard around my group of ex-colleagues, we want to get the gang back together.' Holm also noted that something like a content pack from Andor would still take six months to create, and that's if the proper team was even available. He adds that he has no idea how feasible it would actually be to try and reunite the original dev team as, 'we are spread far and wide.' The team behind Battlefront 2 was disbanded in 2020 when support was ended for the game, and developers were shuffled onto Battlefield 2042 and other projects. There's been a sort of perfect confluence of events that have pushed players back into Battlefront 2. Andor is obviously a part of it, along with the recent Star Wars Celebration in Japan, May the 4th events, and the latest season of Fortnite including Galactic Battle. Battlefront Updates on X says that on May 21, according to a reliable source, the game peaked at 160K+ concurrent players – the highest peak it's had in almost five years. Star Wars Battlefront 2 first released in 2017, and was immediately met with immense backlash to its highly predatory loot box design. Outside of cosmetic items, the system meant iconic character like Darth Vader were locked, and players would need to spend dozens of hours grinding in order to unlock them. EA eventually reversed its microtransaction plan to remove them from the game entirely. Despite those initial stumbles the game did find a passionate and vocal fanbase, with a stream of post-launch updates – especially after a 'Celebration' re-released in 2019 gave the game a wealth of new content. DICE is currently one of three studios working on the Battlefield game, which is set to release sometime in 2025. Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The Children Yearn for ‘Battlefront 3'

If you are in any online Star Wars circles right now, odds are, completely unprompted, you've probably seen people commenting about getting a third Battlefront game. It's been the best part of a decade since Battlefront II released, and there's no signs of life in the franchise it seems, as far as EA is concerned. But that's not going to stop fans from trying to get the company's attention any way they can. The sudden surge in interest for Battlefront 3 has come from a mix of things. Right now, it's arguably a pretty good time to be a Star Wars fan, between the the climax of Andor, the post-May-4th-glow, and Revenge of the Sith's 20th anniversary (which itself heralds the impending 20th anniversary of the original Battlefront II later this year). Perhaps particularly pointed to Battlefront fans too is the fact that the galaxy far, far away's already being lovingly platformed (and occasionally a little more controversially) by one of the biggest shooters around, Fortnite, for its ongoing Star Wars special season. It's led some to go back to Battlefront II, EA and DICE's 2017 shooter that launched to mixed acclaim but managed to carve its way to a respectable Star Wars shooting experience by the time post-launch support trailed off after the launch of Rise of Skywalker a couple years later. In the past few weeks, Steam DB reports that the player counts for the game on PC have surged from an average of just 1-2,000 people to highs of nearly 8,000 this past weekend, a height not seen since 2021. The mandatory petitions calling for a sequel have risen up, and, of course, Star Wars online fandoms, from the Battlefront Reddit to TikTok and X comments, have been filled with memes, yearning, and a shared demand on everyone's lips: Battlefront III when? The answer is, unfortunately, probably not for a very long while. Even with the current upsurge in interest in Battlefront II, EA's management of the Star Wars video game brand has proven a bit murky in recent years, even with brilliant titles like Respawn's Jedi games or the intriguing, upcoming tactics title Zero Company, beset by behind-the-scenes turmoil at the publisher and the cancellation of several potential Star Wars titles. Battlefront II itself, despite selling millions of copies, was never quite seen as the oversized success EA wanted, especially when at launch it was beset with controversy. It took years of continual support and updates to flesh out the game's celebration of the sequel, original, and prequel trilogy eras before public opinion on the game turned around, but by then, it was too late for hopes of a third game to really get off the ground. Grimly, this is somewhat fitting for the franchise, both in terms of Star Wars—which loves itself a cycle of thematically repeated storytelling—and Battlefront itself, because the series has found itself in this exact instance already. EA and Dice rebooted Battlefront back in 2015, a decade after Battlefront II released and several years after that version of the series' own third entry had been scrapped. The original hypothetical Battlefront III has infamously leaked over and over for years now, from story campaign cutscenes to gameplay from recovered builds of the title, as fans hoped and prayed that somehow, some day, Battlefront III would happen. While we have no evidence at all that a Battlefront sequel to the 2017 game is currently in the works, as was the case with the cancelled sequel to the 2005 game, in this time of Star Wars anniversary reflectiveness, there's a bit of dark humor in finding Battlefront fans in the exact same place today as they were in the late aughts. Hoping in spite of unlikely outcomes, however, is a deeply Star Wars sentiment. If rebellions can be built on it, why not video games?
