Bayer Leverkusen boss revels in Bayern Munich's failure to land Florian Wirtz
The hate is real. Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro really could not hide his excitement about Bayern Munich's failure to land Florian Wirtz. When asked if he was happy that Wirtz joined Liverpool instead of Bayern Munich, Carro could not wait to give a response. 'Honestly, yes. I have a different opinion than Hans-Joachim Watzke. I don't understand why, as the boss of Borussia Dortmund, he would have been happy if Wirtz had gone to Munich. Bayern would then have been even stronger. I want an exciting Bundesliga. I'm happy if more clubs—besides us—make life difficult for Bayern, because I believe the Bundesliga benefits from that,' Carro told Welt am Sonntag (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). 'When Florian and his parents told us they chose Liverpool, we weren't sad under the circumstances. It's no secret that we preferred a transfer abroad. When asked whether or not Bayern Munich made an offer to Bayern Leverkusen, Carro was happy to detail how he shot down the Bavarians. 'Yes, in spring. Jan-Christian Dreesen contacted me. He told me that he and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge wanted to talk to us about Florian Wirtz. I said: We have no interest in selling our best player to Munich. Then there were no more concrete talks. Bayern were apparently convinced that Florian would choose them. I told them: We have other information,' Carro noted. Yeah, there is bad blood. The careers of Liverpool FC's Luis Diaz and Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl could end up intertwined if the transfer move goes through. Meanwhile, is the rest of the Bundesliga sick of being bullied by Bayern Munich and is the league bleeding too much talent? Also, Paul Wanner and Lennart Karl could be in line for opportunities during the the youngster take advantage of those chances? Manchester United have officially reached out to Tolisso's representatives to explore a summer move, according to L'Equipe. Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 28-year-old's future at Anfield. Arne Slot is planning for the Colombia international to be a part of his squad in the upcoming season, but a fee of £69 million would force him to consider his options. This comes after Football Insider revealed on 13 July that Díaz is 'in negotiations' over leaving Liverpool with talks over a new contract yet to progress. As things stand, neither Bayern Munich nor Barcelona are willing to meet his asking price, with the former having set a price cap of £51 million in their pursuit. ‘Complete surprise' — Bayern Munich shocked at losing chance to get Florian Wirtz as Liverpool boss Arne Slot might have closed the deal
According to a detailed report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich was left stunned by Florian Wirtz's decision to move to Liverpool FC. The club had met with Wirtz and his family expecting to finalize a deal, only to be told that move was not going to happen. As for what changed the playmaker's mind, Liverpool coach Arne Slot appears to have had a lot to do with the change of the heart: A meeting had taken place earlier this week, with Florian Wirtz, Uli Hoeneß, and Max Eberl all sitting at the table. Bayern had tried everything one last time. Yesterday afternoon, Hans-Joachim Wirtz called Hoeneß and Eberl and told them that after five years at Bayer Leverkusen, his son no longer sees himself in the Bundesliga. He wanted the next step, the next challenge. Therefore, he would move to the Premier League, to Liverpool. The decision came as a complete surprise to Bayern. There was tremendous confidence that Wirtz would move to Munich. After numerous discussions with Wirtz himself and his father, Bayern were of the opinion that the player doesn't see himself in a different league yet. They thought his plan was to continue maturing in Germany before moving abroad in a few years - that's why they were very certain and were prepared to put together the biggest transfer package in the club's history Florian Wirtz also had long discussions with Bayern coach Vincent Kompany and Liverpool coach Arne Slot. Slot is said to have impressed Wirtz with his ideas. Advertisement All Bayern Munich can do is dust itself off and prep for the next pursuit. The club really wanted Wirtz, but will have to move on and try to find ways to improve the squad without adding the man, who many believe is Germany's top talent at the moment. The news that Bayern Munich had coughed up the Florian Wirtz transfer was shocking. Even more stunning was that it was Liverpool FC, who ultimately won the Germany international's heart. next? Let's rehash how it all went down, why it happened, and then talk about what might on tap next for the Bavarians, who have to start their transfer dealings all over again. Nick Woltemade was slated to leave Germany's camp in favor of U-21s, but is sticking around for France match
With Germany losing 2-1 to Portugal, head coach Julian Nagelsmann was prepared to send Nick Woltemade to the U-21s for the EUROs (via @iMiaSanMia): Nick Woltemade will join the U21 national team immediately and will not feature in Sunday's Nations League third place playoff Julian Nagelsmann: 'We will send him to the U21s. We agreed that would be the case if we don't reach the final. I want to stick to the agreement so that they can have a good tournament.' Well, not so fast... After examining the exact schedule of the U-21s, Nagelsmann decided to keep Woltemade longer per Bild (via @iMiaSanMia): Update: Change of plan for Woltemade. He will stay with the senior national team because the U-21s have Friday and Saturday off. The striker will train with the senior NT and will be in the squad in the third place match on Sunday, but he'll most likely be rested ahead of the U-21 EUROs.
