Betty White's co-star Valerie Bertinelli opens up about the late legend helping during her toughest times
Valerie Bertinelli is reflecting on her days working with a television icon. In a clip from 'The Drew Barrymore Show' shared earlier this week, Bertinelli can be seen answering questions from the audience. When one fan asked what the best piece of advice she's ever received was, she brought up one of her former co-stars. 'The best piece of advice is from Betty White,' Bertinelli said. 'She really taught me about gratitude. I thought I was grateful. She was just living, breathing gratitude, every second of her life, every moment I was around her.' She went on to say that White 'was grateful for the good, the bad, the ugly, all of it,' and that outlook has helped her deal with 'really challenging things of the past five years,' saying 'I'm grateful for the hard stuff.' 'It's sucked, and I wish I didn't have to go through it, but there was no other way for me to learn a better way,' Bertinelli continued. 'And I think mistakes are there purposefully to help us learn what not to do.' She concluded: 'So, gratitude for sure. Every moment, I'm grateful for. Even the hard stuff. Especially the hard stuff. That's Betty White.' Bertinelli and White starred alongside each other on the hit show 'Hot In Cleveland' for six seasons, from 2010 to 2015. White played Elka Ostrovsky, the elderly homeowner Bertinelli's character and her friends rent a house from when they decide to move from Los Angeles to Cleveland. She also spoke about her relationship with White during her appearance on the talk show in June, saying 'she was magical,' and calling herself 'lucky' to have been able 'to work with her for five years.' 'Hot In Cleveland' star Valerie Bertinelli shared on 'The Drew Barrymore Show' the best advice her costar, the late Betty White, gave her. Instagram/thedrewbarrymoreshow The actress has been very vocal about her recent struggles on social media, often taking to Instagram to share what she is going through. In May 2025, she shared with her followers that she is 'going through some of the most emotionally excruciating eight months of my life.' 'This is not to say I feel sorry for myself because I don't. Nobody has the market cornered on grief and heartache. People go through hard s— all the time. You just do what you have to do to get through what you have to get through,' she said. 'And I don't know that I would change any of it. I've learned so much more about my strength, my weaknesses, my patience, my resilience, and my worth. I still have more inner work left to do.' Two months later, Bertinelli took to the social media app to share that she is struggling to remain sober during her more difficult moments. Bertinelli said, 'She really taught me about gratitude. I thought I was grateful. She was just living, breathing gratitude, every second of her life, every moment I was around her.' WireImage 'I've been going through some really intense, uncomfortable, sad, emotionally excruciating feelings the last few days, and I want to drink. I want to numb it. I don't want to feel it,' Bertinelli admitted. She continued, 'But my logical mind is like, 'No, you don't want to do that. You don't want to numb it. You know what will help you feel better is to just feel the feelings. Get through to the other side. Have a good cry.' And yet, I can't cry.' While she didn't disclose what her specific struggles have been, she broke up with her boyfriend Mike Goodnough in November 2024, after 10 months of dating.

Valerie Bertinelli Shares the Trader Joe's Snack She's ‘Addicted' to — and Walked Around a Store 3 Times to Find
Valerie Bertinelli revealed she's "addicted" to Trader Joe's Trio of Soft Licorice Twists She shared an Instagram video in which she recalled trying to find them in a store that wasn't her usual location They come in three flavors: ripe raspberry, tropical mango and tart green appleValerie Bertinelli is making a confession about a certain chewy candy. 'I haven't been to a Trader Joe's in weeks, months possibly, because I am addicted to these,' she admitted in a video taken in her car that was posted to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, June 4. The celebrity chef, 65, then held up a package of the grocery chain's Trio of Soft Licorice Twists. 'But what am I supposed to do?' Bertinelli asked. 'I'm driving home from an appointment. I'm stopped at a stoplight. And I go, 'Well, look at that right around the corner, there's a Trader Joe's.' I've never been to that particular Trader Joe's because I don't often drive down this particular street. But I might as well turn left and go into the very crowded parking lot and wait for a parking space." Explaining that it was raining and she didn't have an umbrella, the Food Network alum went on to share her next course of action. 'Why don't I just walk into the store and get rained on so I can look for these particular things that I'm addicted to?' she continued. 'And I don't know the layout of this particular store, because every Trader Joe's is laid out differently. But did I walk around the store three times to see if I could find these, because they're not in the place they usually are, at the Trader Joe's I usually go to?' 'Okay, so what?' she asked viewers. 'And I ain't telling you how many bags I bought.' A description of the product on the Trader Joe's website calls the twists 'superbly soft and pleasantly chewy.' They come in three flavors: ripe raspberry, tropical mango and tart green apple. Bertinelli shared another playful anecdote on her Instagram Stories this week. In a video posted Tuesday, June 3, the One Day at a Time star said she was mistaken for a Valerie Bertinelli lookalike while running a recent errand. 'People are adorable,' she began the funny story. Bertinelli said when she visited a government office earlier that day for some paperwork, she was approached by a stranger while walking out. 'This guy stops me, holds up his phone and says, 'Hey ma'am, anybody ever tell you you look like her?'' she recalled. 'And it's me. And I said, 'Yeah, all the time.'' 'Everybody waiting in line all started laughing,' she added. 'I don't know if they knew it was me, or they really thought it wasn't and that I looked really a lot like Valerie Bertinelli. … We had a good laugh. And I love people.' Kesha asks Valerie Bertinelli if son Wolfgang Van Halen is single: 'Checking the vibes out'
Kesha isn't afraid to shoot her shot. The "Joyride" singer paused a conversation during Monday's episode of The Drew Barrymore Show to ask cohost Valerie Bertinelli about her son Wolfgang Van Halen's current relationship status. The question came up during a Drew's News segment about how "grandma hobbies" like crocheting and bird watching can improve one's mental health. "I still haven't finished the blanket that I started knitting when I was pregnant with Wolfie," Bertinelli remarked. "He just turned 34. So maybe if he has children, I'll finally finish the blanket." "You do want him to have children," host Drew Barrymore noted. Which is when Kesha, 38, turned to Bertinelli and promptly asked, "Is he single?" Alas, he's "very happily married," Bertinelli replied as she giggled and grabbed Kesha's arm. Wolfgang, the son of Bertinelli and the late Eddie Van Halen, wed software engineer Andraia Allsop in October 2023. Kesha took the news in stride, laughing and shrugging her shoulders before cheekily adding, "Just checking the vibes out." Barrymore confirmed Kesha's current single status before asking if she was open to dating. Kesha replied, "I more like the idea of someone flying me around on their private plane." "Okay, but what do you have to do for that?" Bertinelli countered. "Because they're gonna want something back." But Kesha was unfazed. "Nothing!" she emphasized. "Me? They get to be in my presence." Bertinelli confessed that she loved that attitude, and Barrymore agreed. "We are such people pleasers," she said, "we're like, 'Oh, if you get something you're gonna have to give a lot up for it.'" "No, you just are iconic," Kesha declared. "Come on, ladies!" Still, Kesha admitted that she was kind of using her visit to Barrymore's show as a "dating app" to find a potential suitor. Channeling their inner game show hostesses, Barrymore and Bertinelli then began to showcase the songstress sitting between them at the news desk. "Kesha's available! Anybody?" Bertinelli shouted. Barrymore added, "This beautiful woman, right here!" The Drew Barrymore Show airs weekdays on CBS. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly
