When Salman Khan called marriage ‘a funny thing'; joked about father Salim Khan marrying twice: ‘He's really happy with two wives'
Even though he is set to turn 60 this year, Salman Khan remains unmarried. Although he has been linked to various female celebrities over the years, with the most recent rumour being Romanian actor, singer and television presenter Iulia Vantur, Salman remains 'officially single'. He has, nonetheless, shared his thoughts on marriage multiple times; sometimes seriously, sometimes in jest. Interestingly, he once said that marriage is inherently 'a funny thing', making it a fertile theme for films to explore comedy, especially around the events that unfold in a couple's journey. 'I think marriage is a funny thing. Movies like Biwi No 1 (1999) and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) basically focused on that. There's a lot of (scope for) comedy, even in fights that happen among couples. 'Aapke maa ne yeh kyu bola? Khane pe kyun bola? (Why did your mom say this? Why did you invite me for food?)' There's also the saas-bahu stories, and Ekta Kapoor is making money out of just that,' he shared during a chat with Lehren. Watch | Navjot Singh Sidhu confirms return to The Great Indian Kapil Show, shocked Archana Puran Singh responds: 'Patti wapas baandh de' Mentioning that although people say getting married is the best thing, Salman Khan pointed out that he has seen quite a few who aren't as happy in married life as they appear. He even joked about his father, legendary screenwriter Salim Khan, who married twice, mentioning that Salim might be the only person he knows who's actually happy with two wives. 'My dad is really happy because he has two wives. And they're both happy too. They get along with each other fine,' he said. While Salim Khan tied the knot with Salma Khan (née Sushila Charak) in 1964, he married actor Helen Richardson in 1981. Salman is currently going through a rough patch in his career, with his movies not working at the box office. After the underperformance of Tiger 3, his most recent Sikandar, where he shared the screen with Rashmika Mandanna, had also bombed. Sikandar was helmed by AR Murugadoss.

Sushmita Sen fondly recalls her time filming with Salman Khan, particularly on David Dhawan's set where she was asked to wear flats. Salman, however, encouraged her to wear heels, a gesture Sushmita saw as progressive and supportive. She also shared anecdotes about Salman's on-set pranks and the unscripted origin of her iconic "haye mera bachcha" line from Biwi No 1. Sushmita Sen and Salman Khan have shared a strong bond over the years, both on and off screen. Reflecting on their camaraderie, Sushmita recently revealed a lesser-known but endearing detail from their filming days. She shared that while working on a film directed by David Dhawan , she was often asked to wear flats to match Salman's height. But it was Salman who encouraged her to wear heels instead, showing no insecurity and fully supporting her confidence. Sushmita called this gesture "progressive" and praised Salman for his secure and appreciative attitude—a trait she deeply admired. A Fond Memory from the Sets of Biwi No 1 In a conversation with Mashable India, Sushmita shared a fond memory from the sets of Biwi No 1. She recalled how director David Dhawan would often ask her to avoid wearing heels. Respecting the direction, she would show up in flats—until Salman Khan stepped in. Noticing her footwear, he encouraged her to wear heels and told her not to worry about his height. Sushmita appreciated this gesture and called it a reflection of Salman's progressive attitude—something she has always admired about him. Salman's On-Set Pranks That Leave Everyone Laughing The actress also shared another lighthearted memory from working with Salman. Iconic Unscriped Moment in Biwi No 1: 'Haye Mera Bachcha' Sushmita and Salman have shared screen space in popular films like Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, Tumko Naa Bhool Payenge, and Biwi No 1. It was in Biwi No 1, where Sushmita played Salman's on-screen girlfriend, that her iconic dialogue 'haye mera bachcha' became a fan favorite. Interestingly, this memorable line wasn't part of the script. In a past interview, Sushmita revealed that she believed the scene had ended and spontaneously pulled Salman in for a hug while saying the phrase in her own playful lingo. But the cameras were still rolling, and director David Dhawan decided to keep the unscripted moment in the final cut. ‘David Dhawan doesn't ‘have the guts' to talk to me about ‘Chunari Chunari' remake,' says Abhijeet Bhattacharya: ‘Copies are sold more than the original'
Over the past weekend, as clips from the shoot of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai starring Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur, were circulated on the internet, fans of the Biwi No 1 song 'Chunari Chunari' were not pleased. The clips being circulated saw Varun, Mrunal and Pooja dancing to a revamped version of the song and fans, as they often are, did not sound pleased with another one of their childhood favourites getting a revamp. Now, singer of the original song Abhijeet Bhattacharya has said that he was not told that the song is getting revamped for another film. He also said that even though this was a hit song back in the 90s, he never counted it among his 'great songs.' In a chat with HT City, Abhijeet said that no one told him about the revamp and added that they 'don't have the guts' to inform him either. He said, 'Mujhe music composer, film ke director kisi ne nahi bataya ki iss song ko remake kiya jaa raha hai. Himmat bhi nahi kar sakte batane ki. (Music composer, director, no one told me that the song is being remade. They don't have the guts to tell me.)' The original song was composed by Anu Malik and was sung by Anuradha Sriram, along with Abhijeet. It was filmed on Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen. Biwi No 1 was directed by David Dhawan, and so is Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The title of the film is also taken from the lyrics of Biwi No 1's song 'Ishq Sona Hai.' Abhijeet added that for him, 'Chunari Chunari' was never a good song. 'For me personally, 'Chunari Chunari' was not a great song, never. It was one of those 'jaldi gaao aur bhaago studio se (quickly sing and get out of the studio)' song. I never count it among my great songs. This was one of those where the makers just wanted the lyrics to become a hit somehow,' he said. He told the publication, 'For the past 25 years I have heard it being played at functions, parties, and would always think, 'What is it about the song? There was nothing that I remember from the time I sang it'. But I do realise it has become iconic for fans.' Abhijeet was then asked about his reaction to the remake and he said, 'Mujhe farak nahi padhta itni chhoti cheez se (I don't care about such small things). I don't get involved much. In the market, copies are sold more than the original. Only great people know the value of the original. Tuchhi cheez mein main padhta hi nahi hoon (I don't get involved in petty things).'
