Cabbie arrested for attempted murder
Hyderabad: A 25-year-old cab driver has been arrested by Bowenpally police for the attempted murder of two patrolling constables. According to police, the accused, N Sampath Kumar, a resident of Moulali and native of Andhra Pradesh, who intentionally rammed his car into a police vehicle during patrolling on 5 July, was booked under Sections 109(1), 121(2), and 121(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act, in case number 295/2025. As per details, at around 10 PM on 5 July, constables K Chanti and L Praveen were conducting Blue Colt patrolling duties on Dairy Farm Road, Bowenpally. They noticed a suspicious white Maruti Suzuki WagonR taxi parked at the dead end of a by-lane. As they approached the vehicle for enquiry, the driver intentionally rammed it into the police bike, resulting in injuries to the officers. While Praveen sustained grievous fractures to his left leg, the rider, Chanti, received minor injuries. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Bowenpally police station. During the investigation, the accused was apprehended on 8 July, identified through CCTV footage and technical evidence.

DCP inspects patrol mobiles and blue colts
Hyderabad: Recognizing the crucial role of night patrolling in maintaining law and order in the city, and with Patrol Mobiles and Blue Colts serving as the face of the police on the roads and the first responders during emergencies, a thorough inspection of these units was conducted on Tuesday by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, Hyderabad. The inspection, held at Public Gardens, covered 20 Patrol Cars and 31 Blue Colt bikes from the 10 police stations under the Central Zone. During the inspection, the condition of the vehicles and the readiness of the staff were closely assessed. Particular attention was given to the availability and functionality of Anti-Desecration Drill equipment, First Aid Kits, and the staff's knowledge and ability to perform CPR and operate fire extinguishers. The DCP K Shilpavalli interacted with the personnel, underscoring the significance of their role as the first line of response to Dial 112 emergency calls. The DCP instructed to maintain a smart, alert, and polite demeanor while dealing with the public, and to actively engage with citizens during their patrolling duties. They were advised to carry out public awareness campaigns at key locations on issues such as cyber safety, Dial 112 usage, and general safety practices. The importance of foot patrolling was emphasized as a means to increase police visibility and to gain better understanding of local issues. Instructions were also issued to ensure prompt and vigilant checks on MO offenders, maintain updated Point Books, and install and geo-tag 'Nenu Saitham' surveillance cameras as part of the crime prevention strategy. The DCP also issued a stern reminder regarding the need for discipline, integrity, and professional conduct at all times. Women constables deployed in Patrol Mobile duties were specially appreciated for their service, and Station House Officers were directed to ensure greater representation of women constables in these frontline roles. The inspection was also attended by ADCP Central Zone, SHOs of Saifabad, Domalguda, and Gandhinagar Police Stations, as well as DIs of Lake, Abids, Musheerabad, and Gandhinagar.

Trio booked for intimidating retired IRS officer's spouse
HYDERABAD: A retired IRS officer lodged a complaint against three persons for allegedly threatening him and obstructing his wife a few days ago. A case under Sections 126(2) and 351(2) of the BNS has been booked. According to the complaint, on June 10, the officer's wife was returning home from a relative's place in Somajiguda when two men on a two-wheeler, allegedly in an inebriated state, deliberately rammed into their car while it was taking a U-turn near Civil Supplies Bhavan. The duo abused the driver and attempted to pull the woman out of the car. When the driver intervened, one of them snatched the car keys and both fled on the two-wheeler. Following a distress call from his wife, the officer alerted Panjagutta police. Upon learning that CCTV footage was being examined and the Blue Colt team had been deployed, the accused returned the car keys. Later that night, one of the accused, Raju, allegedly called the officer and threatened to file a case under the SC/ST Act. 'I told him to go ahead and file it against all of us. He hung up,' the officer said.

Gadwal SP Orders Vigilance on Fake Seeds, Rainfall Safety, and Bakrid Security
Gadwal: In light of the continuous rainfall and the upcoming Bakrid festival, Jogulamba Gadwal District Superintendent of Police (SP) T. Srinivasa Rao, IPS, has directed all police personnel to remain on high alert. The instructions were issued during the monthly crime review meeting held at the district police headquarters, where officers reviewed the status of cases from the previous month and the progress of pending investigations. SP Srinivasa Rao stressed the urgent need to prevent the distribution and sale of fake seeds, especially during the agricultural season. He instructed police officials to work closely with Task Force teams to conduct regular surprise inspections of seed shops and warehouses, ensuring that only certified seeds are made available to farmers. He also emphasized the importance of educating farmers to purchase seeds only from authorized dealers. Addressing the risks posed by the early monsoon rains, the SP urged officers to monitor flood-prone areas, damaged roads, and waterlogged regions to avoid road accidents. He directed coordination with the R&B department to address identified accident hotspots and advised that police vehicles carry emergency supplies during patrols. He also highlighted the need to avoid crossing overflowing streams and culverts without precaution. In preparation for Bakrid, the SP instructed officers to monitor the district borders through vigilant checking at checkpoints to curb illegal cattle transportation. He mandated surprise inspections at these posts and instructed Blue Colt and Dial 100 teams to enhance visible policing in villages. Citizens were encouraged to report any suspicious activity through Dial 100 or their local VPOs. Further, the SP reviewed the implementation of the HRMS system, urging all staff to process leave requests, grievances, rewards, and disciplinary actions online to streamline administration. He also instructed that all case-related CD files be uploaded to the CCTNS system, and that actions taken on grievances received via the public outreach initiative "Prajavani" be documented and reported. In the interest of justice, the SP emphasized the importance of completing investigations of pending cases and filing charge sheets in court promptly. Officers were instructed to regularly review court proceedings, especially over weekends, to ensure victims receive justice and accused are punished appropriately. He also called for intensified patrolling to prevent illegal activities like gambling and bootlegging. The SP directed teams to conduct mega vehicle checking drives, community contact programs, and drunk-and-drive inspections regularly. Awareness campaigns on traffic regulations and cybercrime prevention were also stressed. The meeting was attended by DSP Mogilayya, Circle Inspectors Ravi Babu (Alampur), Srinivas (Gadwal), Tata Babu (Shantinagar), Station House Officers (SHOs), and officers from the IT and DC RB divisions.
