SAFF U-17 Championship 2025 — Full schedule announced, India vs Pakistan on September 22

The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) has announced the schedule for the Under-17 SAFF Championship, which will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from September 15 to 27 this year. The 10th edition of the tournament will have seven countries divided into two groups, with India and Pakistan drawn in the same group. SAFF U-17 Championship Groups: Group A: Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka Group B: India, Pakistan, Maldives, Bhutan Teams in each group will play each other once in a round-robin format, while the top two from each group will qualify for the semifinals. Games after the group stage will all be single-leg eliminators, played with provisions of extra-time and a penalty shootout in the event of a draw after regulation time. Host Sri Lanka will play the first match against Nepal, and all games of the tournament will be played at the Racecourse International Stadium. The Blue Colts beat Bangladesh in the previous edition in Bhutan, with Mohammed Kaif and Mohammed Arbash scoring in a 2-0 win in September last year. India is also the most successful team in the tournament, winning the title six times.

Gadwal: As part of the annual inspections, Jogulamba Zone DIG Shri L.S. Chauhan IPS visited Alampur Circle Office, Alampur and Gadwal Rural Police Stations, and the District Police Headquarters on Saturday. He was accompanied by District SP Shri T. Srinivas Rao IPS. During the inspection, DIG Chauhan thoroughly reviewed the station records, surroundings, and the duties being carried out by the police personnel. He examined section-wise records at the District Police Headquarters and emphasized effective record maintenance and operational efficiency. At Alampur Circle Office in Kodandapur, the DIG inspected the Circle Information Book, Crime Digest, Government Property Register, and Petition Register. He instructed Alampur CI Ravi Babu to ensure prompt police response to Dial 100 calls and to intensify 24x7 patrolling by Blue Colts and Petrol Cars. He also directed regular inspections of police stations within the circle and continuous supervision of staff performance. In the visits to Alampur and Gadwal Rural Police Stations, DIG Chauhan inspected areas such as vehicle parking, reception area, station writer desk, tech team, SHO office, men's restrooms, and lockup rooms. He thoroughly examined important records like the General Diary, Sentry Relief Book, Duty Roster, Village Roster, Process Register, Beat Duty Books, Suspect Check Register, Superior Officers Visiting Book, and Final Reports. Interaction with Police Personnel Addressing the staff, the DIG emphasized the need for accountability and committed public service. He urged all personnel to implement the 5S system within police stations and to respond immediately to emergencies. He encouraged officers to bring up any personal or professional issues so they could be resolved swiftly. He also instructed the Blue Colts teams and officers to maintain constant surveillance on rowdy-sheeters, suspects, and repeat offenders. District Police Headquarters Inspection Upon arriving at the District Police Headquarters, DIG Chauhan was given a ceremonial guard of honor. He inspected various units such as SB, DCRB, A & B Sections, Headquarters Platoon, Admin Store, Bell of Arms (Weapons Register), MT Section, Home Guards Register, and Dog Squad records. SP Srinivas Rao briefed the DIG about the functioning of each department and its staff. DIG Chauhan advised all staff to promptly act on service-related petitions and follow superior officers' instructions without delay. He expressed satisfaction with the SP's efforts to maintain law and order across the district. Green Initiative under Telangana Haritha Haram In line with the Telangana Haritha Haram (State-wide Plantation Program), DIG Chauhan, along with SP Srinivas Rao, planted saplings at the District Police Headquarters, Alampur Circle Office, and Alampur & Gadwal Rural Police Station premises. He urged all police staff to actively participate in environmental protection by planting trees on all police department premises. Key Officials Present The event saw the participation of DSP Y. Mogulaiah, District Police AO Satish Kumar, Armed Reserve DSP Narendra Rao, SB Inspector Nageshwar Reddy, CIs from Alampur (Ravi Babu), Gadwal (Srinivas), Shantinagar (Tata Babu), all SHOs, SI Lohith Reddy, and various district police staff. This inspection reflects the ongoing commitment of Telangana Police to maintain high standards in law enforcement, transparency, public service, and environmental stewardship.

As part of the visit, the SP inspected several key areas within the police station premises including: Reception area Station Writer's desk Technical team section SHO's office Men's rest room Lock-up room He closely reviewed daily-maintained records such as the General Diary, Beat Duty Books, and Superior Officers' Visiting Books. Cleanliness and Staff Welfare Emphasized Addressing the police staff, the SP stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness in and around the police station on a daily basis. He encouraged the staff to promptly bring any personal or professional issues to his attention for resolution. Assessment of Manpower and Duties SP Srinivasa Rao took stock of the personnel present at the station and the specific duties assigned to each of them. He inquired about: The number of Blue Colts and Patrol Cars operating from the station on a daily basis. The number and distribution of beats under the police station's jurisdiction. He issued clear instructions to ensure regular patrolling in the area to prevent thefts and other criminal activities. Strong Focus on Drunk Driving, Cyber Crimes, and Public Awareness The SP ordered intensified Drunk and Drive inspections to help control road accidents. He emphasized the need for swift response to Dial 100 calls, ensuring police personnel immediately reach the incident site and resolve issues effectively. Further, the SP directed: 24x7 patrolling by Blue Colts and Patrol Cars Maintenance of complete village-level intelligence by the assigned staff Frequent visits to villages for creating awareness on cyber crimes, online frauds, and substance abuse Public-Centric Policing Stressed The SP urged all police personnel to remain approachable and responsive to the public at all times. He emphasized that public grievances must be addressed promptly without unnecessary delays. Participants in the Visit The surprise inspection was also attended by Inspector Srinivas, Sub-Inspector Nandikar, and other station staff. Hyderabad: Recognizing the crucial role of night patrolling in maintaining law and order in the city, and with Patrol Mobiles and Blue Colts serving as the face of the police on the roads and the first responders during emergencies, a thorough inspection of these units was conducted on Tuesday by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, Hyderabad. The inspection, held at Public Gardens, covered 20 Patrol Cars and 31 Blue Colt bikes from the 10 police stations under the Central Zone. During the inspection, the condition of the vehicles and the readiness of the staff were closely assessed. Particular attention was given to the availability and functionality of Anti-Desecration Drill equipment, First Aid Kits, and the staff's knowledge and ability to perform CPR and operate fire extinguishers. The DCP K Shilpavalli interacted with the personnel, underscoring the significance of their role as the first line of response to Dial 112 emergency calls. The DCP instructed to maintain a smart, alert, and polite demeanor while dealing with the public, and to actively engage with citizens during their patrolling duties. They were advised to carry out public awareness campaigns at key locations on issues such as cyber safety, Dial 112 usage, and general safety practices. The importance of foot patrolling was emphasized as a means to increase police visibility and to gain better understanding of local issues. Instructions were also issued to ensure prompt and vigilant checks on MO offenders, maintain updated Point Books, and install and geo-tag 'Nenu Saitham' surveillance cameras as part of the crime prevention strategy. The DCP also issued a stern reminder regarding the need for discipline, integrity, and professional conduct at all times. Women constables deployed in Patrol Mobile duties were specially appreciated for their service, and Station House Officers were directed to ensure greater representation of women constables in these frontline roles. The inspection was also attended by ADCP Central Zone, SHOs of Saifabad, Domalguda, and Gandhinagar Police Stations, as well as DIs of Lake, Abids, Musheerabad, and Gandhinagar.

As part of the inspection, the SP visited several critical locations, including YSR Chowk, New Bus Stand, and Krishna Veni Chowk, where he personally reviewed the performance of police teams engaged in night security operations. During his interaction with officers and staff on night duty, SP Srinivas Rao emphasized the importance of remaining alert during night hours. He directed personnel to: Conduct regular checks on individuals loitering during night hours, especially those appearing suspicious. Use fingerprint-based identification through Papillon devices to verify the identity of unknown or suspicious persons. Instructed beat constables to patrol residential colonies extensively, maintaining heightened visibility and vigilance. Take preventive measures to curb property crimes during nighttime. The SP's unexpected visit served as a morale booster for the force while sending a strong message about accountability and dedication to duty. He was accompanied by DSP Mogilayya, CI Tanguturi Srinu, and Traffic SI Balachander, who participated in the inspection and coordinated with field staff. This initiative reflects the district police department's commitment to public safety and maintaining law and order during night hours, especially in sensitive areas.
