Glenda Gilson defends pal Louis Walsh after backlash from Boyzone documentary

Former Xpose star Glenda Gilson has defended Louis Walsh against backlash after Sky's documentary, Boyzone: No Matter What. Following the release of Sky's docu-series Boyzone: No Matter What, the music manager was criticised for his treatment of the hit boyband. Glenda – who has been a long-time friend of Louis' as well as Boyzone star Keith Duffy – responded to the criticism the former X Factor judge received. The former Xpose star said: "Well, I'm on two sides there, because I'm great pals with the lads as well. Keith Duffy would be a good friend of mine, but Louis is my pal. I could see two sides of it. I could totally see it. "Louis got them headlines they never would have gotten in their life. But I see the way Louis works. We all know you take it with a pinch of salt, and it's also edited. Chop a few words out of a sentence, and it sounds totally different." The Dubliner, from Castleknock, also spoke about Louis being on Celebrity Big Brother, saying she thinks he found it "tough" being stuck in the house. "I just remember watching him laughing, you know, when you know someone. But I thought he was brilliant. I thought he did all the interviewing, like Kate Middleton's own brother… He (Louis) did the interview, and he asked the questions we all wanted to know. "But I'd say that was tough for him, like it has to be tough for a man of his age, a man that's so used to having his own privacy and then being in Big Brother…" Last year, the Mayo native revealed he had been diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer, which he identified as 'Waldenström'. Asked how Louis is doing since his blood cancer diagnosis, she said in jest: "He's good. It's Louis, you can't kill a bad thing." Glenda, who is married to businessman Rob MacNaughton stepped back from the spotlight over the last few years to raise her two sons, Bobby and Danny. But the Dubliner admitted she would like to make a return to TV at some point. "I don't know (when I will). At least this year, my two kids will be on the same school run, school time, I feel like I get a bit of my life back. But I told my life is their life, if you know what I mean. So I want to be there for pickups, collection, all that I do to dabble in and out of work. "I love people, and I love talking to people. I love having the craic. That was what I was all about. I love communicating with people. I love people. So anything that gets me doing that. "I mean, people said to me, 'are you writing a book?' And I'm like, 'No, I'd have to die the next day.' And then I tell them a few stories, and they're like, 'Glenda, write the book.' But I'd have to seriously die the next day." But she said taking a step back to raise her kids was the best decision she ever made. "Probably, and it was at a time when everything changed as well, like Xpose, you couldn't see around today. It wouldn't be around today. You couldn't do what we did, just with everything. "You know, the way life is. But so, yeah, time changed for a reason, I think. "And you know, I was a child model. I was modelling at three years of age, I was always working so and I always said my mom was always at home for me and picked me up from school and was always there. "So it was kind of what I was used to. I wanted to do that, and I've been afforded to do that right now."

Brian McFadden defends Louis Walsh after he was slammed for Boyzone documentary appearance

Westlife's Brian McFadden has come to the defence of his former manager Louis Walsh after his appearance in a Boyzone documentary was slammed by fans. After the release of the three-part docuseries in February, Brian admitted that the X Factor judge "came out of it bad". Louis created and managed the Irish boy group, who catapulted to fame in the 90s and early noughties. The Sky documentary - titled Boyzone: No Matter What - followed the highs and lows of the groups career, and featured new and archived interviews with members Keith Duffy, Stephen Gately , Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch and Ronan Keating. As their former manager, Louis was also interviewed but came under fire from many viewers, reports the Mirror. This was due to him vocalising how he enjoyed the success of Boyzone, as well as talking about his "cruel" treatment of the band members. In the docuseries, Ronan and Shane recalled the massive media attention that they band received, and how Louis went as far as to plant stories without the band knowing. Outraged fans also criticised Louis for the smile he gave when looking at the front page of Stephen being outed. While Keith remembered the treatment that Stephen received being "absolutely scandalous", their manager was instead seen to smile and remark: "He got the front page." Amidst the backlash that Louis has received from viewers, Westlife's Brian has spoken out and defended his former manager. Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on Virgin Radio UK, he said: "I felt sorry for Louis Walsh. I have to say, I think Louis got a bit of a bum steer in that, to be honest with you. "[He came out of it] terrible. But I understand why… I'm not going to blame the editing, but there was bits I was like, I know how Louis is saying that and then they'll show this horrible story about maybe Stephen, and you're like, 'Oh, that's awful. "And then it would cut to Louis going, 'I don't care. I'd do it again'. And you're, like, Oh, no… That's not what he's [meant]..." Brain also confessed: "He came out of it bad. I think he didn't understand the temperature of the room and what it was going to be. I think he thought it was another fluff piece, like these talking head shows that they do. "I thought he thought it was one of them and didn't realise how dark and sensitive it was going to be." In the docuseries Ronan , who was Boyzone's frontman, accused Louis of ditching him when he decided to try out a solo career that separated the band for a number of years. He also said that the manager made some "really b****y comments". At the beginning of their careers, Shane noted that Louis promised them "the sun, moon and stars". However, Louis was later seen to chuckle: "They believed their own publicity. They forgot I wrote it." Brain isn't the only star to defend Louis, as Union J star Jaymi Hensley-Marmon - who was mentored by the music mogul on X Factor in 2011 - has also spoken about his experience with the judge. He said: "My experience of LouLou is one of pure honesty, care, friendship, and compassion! One of if not the most genuine person I have met in this rollercoaster of showbiz. "As a member of a 'Louis Walsh' boyband , I can say he has always had my back. This Is a truly unremarkably caring man who I am honoured to call a friend! Not what tv producers want you to see, remember that!" After the documentary was released, Louis revealed that he was having chemotherapy after viewers noticed changes in his appearance. He also noted that he was determined to take part in the show and decided to open up on his secret health battle with waldenstrom macroglobulinemia on Celebrity Big Brother.

Brian McFadden says the way Boyzone doc was edited made Louis Walsh 'look bad'

'I've got nothing but good things to say for Louis' The 72-year-old music mogul also managed McFadden's former band Westlife. 'I've got nothing but good things to say for Louis,' Brian told ITV's Good Morning Britain. 'Louis gave me my career, it's the same with Boyzone. Everything he did was to try and make both bands successful. 'And I think he was, he came across, unfortunately, in the documentary, I think it was edited that he came across a bit bad. 'But listen, I've nothing but love for Louis,' he added. McFadden, who left Westlife in 2004 said he recently spoke to Louis adding he was 'always good. You'll always make a laugh with him.' He is now in a supergroup with Boyzone star Keith Duffy called 'Boyzlife' and the pair have released music together and toured across the world performing hit songs by both Westlife and Boyzone, respectively. Boyzone: No Matter What was a three-episode docuseries released by Sky earlier this year. The documentary charted the band's rise, fall and legacy of its five members: Keith Duffy, Ronan Keating, Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch and Stephen Gately. It included exclusive interviews with the band as they spoke candidly about their experience in the multi-million record-selling boyband. The documentary described Louis Walsh as their 'estranged manager.' Ronan Keating with Louis Walsh. 'The choices he made weren't right, and he's apologised somewhat, but you know. It is what it is. It's grand. It's OK. You know, I'm still here.' Read more The pair infamously fell out in the 2000s when Louis Walsh told the media that he 'wasn't the most talented one, he's not a great singer and he's got no personality.' Keating later said of the comment: "That man absolutely tried to ruin me and if he thinks we can ever hug and make up he can forget it. I haven't heard from him in three years and I wouldn't have a problem if I never saw him again. He's not a nice character.' Brian McFadden on Boybands Forever. Following the success of Boyzone in the 90s, Walsh went on to create Westlife, which comprised Brian McFadden, Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Mark Feehily, and Kian Egan. He has also managed acts such as Jedward, Samathan Mumba, Girls Aloud, Shayne Ward and Union J. .
