Brian McFadden defends Louis Walsh after he was slammed for Boyzone documentary appearance

Daily Record25-04-2025
Westlife's Brian McFadden has come to the defence of his former manager Louis Walsh after his appearance in a Boyzone documentary was slammed by fans. After the release of the three-part docuseries in February, Brian admitted that the X Factor judge "came out of it bad". Louis created and managed the Irish boy group, who catapulted to fame in the 90s and early noughties. The Sky documentary - titled Boyzone: No Matter What - followed the highs and lows of the groups career, and featured new and archived interviews with members Keith Duffy, Stephen Gately , Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch and Ronan Keating. As their former manager, Louis was also interviewed but came under fire from many viewers, reports the Mirror. This was due to him vocalising how he enjoyed the success of Boyzone, as well as talking about his "cruel" treatment of the band members. In the docuseries, Ronan and Shane recalled the massive media attention that they band received, and how Louis went as far as to plant stories without the band knowing. Outraged fans also criticised Louis for the smile he gave when looking at the front page of Stephen being outed. While Keith remembered the treatment that Stephen received being "absolutely scandalous", their manager was instead seen to smile and remark: "He got the front page." Amidst the backlash that Louis has received from viewers, Westlife's Brian has spoken out and defended his former manager. Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on Virgin Radio UK, he said: "I felt sorry for Louis Walsh. I have to say, I think Louis got a bit of a bum steer in that, to be honest with you. "[He came out of it] terrible. But I understand why… I'm not going to blame the editing, but there was bits I was like, I know how Louis is saying that and then they'll show this horrible story about maybe Stephen, and you're like, 'Oh, that's awful. "And then it would cut to Louis going, 'I don't care. I'd do it again'. And you're, like, Oh, no… That's not what he's [meant]..." Brain also confessed: "He came out of it bad. I think he didn't understand the temperature of the room and what it was going to be. I think he thought it was another fluff piece, like these talking head shows that they do. "I thought he thought it was one of them and didn't realise how dark and sensitive it was going to be." In the docuseries Ronan , who was Boyzone's frontman, accused Louis of ditching him when he decided to try out a solo career that separated the band for a number of years. He also said that the manager made some "really b****y comments". At the beginning of their careers, Shane noted that Louis promised them "the sun, moon and stars". However, Louis was later seen to chuckle: "They believed their own publicity. They forgot I wrote it." Brain isn't the only star to defend Louis, as Union J star Jaymi Hensley-Marmon - who was mentored by the music mogul on X Factor in 2011 - has also spoken about his experience with the judge. He said: "My experience of LouLou is one of pure honesty, care, friendship, and compassion! One of if not the most genuine person I have met in this rollercoaster of showbiz. "As a member of a 'Louis Walsh' boyband , I can say he has always had my back. This Is a truly unremarkably caring man who I am honoured to call a friend! Not what tv producers want you to see, remember that!" After the documentary was released, Louis revealed that he was having chemotherapy after viewers noticed changes in his appearance. He also noted that he was determined to take part in the show and decided to open up on his secret health battle with waldenstrom macroglobulinemia on Celebrity Big Brother.

Oasis' Croke Park concert LIVE: Noel Gallagher mobbed as he makes pub visit

Oasis are just an hour away from their first Irish gig in 16 years. Noel and Liam Gallagher are tonight headlining Dublin's Croke Park, joined by Cast and Richard Ashcroft. The once warning brothers will perform at the national stadium tonight, with a second concert tomorrow – playing their biggest hits to around 164,000 die-hard fans. But Dublin also holds a special place in the Gallagher's hearts. The Mancunian brothers have spoken about their ties to Ireland through their Irish-born parents, Peggy and Thomas. Dublin is the fifth stop on the mammoth Oasis Live'25 tour, having already performed in Cardiff, Manchester, London and Edinburgh. After tomorrow's show, they'll have a short break before heading over to Canada to complete the rest of the world leg of the tour. But before taking to the stage, Noel had hoped to have a quiet drink in the city; however, he was mobbed by fans, but made time to chat to them and sign memorabilia. The concert comes just days after a fan who had travelled from Italy to see the band perform in Edinburgh sadly died just hours before the concert. We'll be bringing you live updates throughout the night. 19:31Daniel Bird What time are Oasis on stage? Noel, Liam, Bonehead, Andy Bell and Gem Archer are due on stage in less than an hour. They are scheduled to walk out at 8:15, to F***in' in the Bushes before belting out Hello. Their set is set to last for two hours, and each night on previous dates, they have finished on time. 19:26Daniel Bird Noel mobbed by fans Noel had hoped for a quiet drink at Brady's Clockhouse in Maynooth but was left surrounded by fans. He didn't seem fazed, though, as the Britpop icon posed for photos with fans and signed autographs. An Oasis fan who bumped into Noel in the pub described him as "bang on" and "like a normal lad". Ryan King managed to meet Noel before he returned to his hotel - and even secured an autograph on his bucket hat. Speaking to the Irish Mirror, he revealed: "The security told us to leave him but he said 'Come on' and he signed a T-shirt, a hat and a few vinyls for the lads. "He was nice, he was bang on, he's like a normal lad."

Oasis fans pour into streets of Dublin ahead of historic Croke Park concert

Continuing their much-awaited reunion tour, Oasis hit Dublin on Saturday and Sunday night where 80,000 fans will pile into the city's Croke Park stadium to see the 90s icons in action Dublin City is 'buzzing' as Oasis return to Ireland for the first time in 16 years. Tens of thousands of the band's fans have descended on the Irish capital for the first of their two sold-out gigs at the country's largest stadium. ‌ Croke Park will host the Britpop icons this weekend, where they will perform for 80,000 music fans over the weekend. Just in time for the country's heatwave, revellers will bask in the sun, soundtracked by the 90s stars for the Irish leg of their reunion tour. ‌ Although they need no encouragement, concert-goers have been advised by health officials to wear their bucket hats to protect them from the sun. High UV levels are expected as Dublin enjoys warm and dry weather on Saturday and Sunday. It comes after Paul Weller reveals the unusual reason he refuses to watch Oasis concerts. ‌ Marking the band's first gig in the country since 2009, the Dublin gigs will hold a special meaning for once-feuding brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher. The Mancunian brothers have spoken about their ties to Ireland through their Irish-born parents, Peggy and Thomas. Sarah and Neil Charlton travelled from Southampton to see the band, after a determined search for standing tickets saw them clinching access in Dublin. Mr Charlton said they have both been waiting a long time to see the band reunite – having seen Oasis multiple times before their extended hiatus. He told the PA news agency: 'We thought: what a great city to come to and see the gig and have a couple of nights out in Dublin.' He added: 'It's just so nostalgic – all the songs and all the music from when we were growing up. When we first started seeing each other, we went to a gig and so it's always been a part of our lives together.' Oasis were also a huge part of Lisa and Alan Roe's love story too, who said their love of the band dates back to when they got married in the 1990s. Mr Roe said: 'Because the two of them are after getting back together after so many years, to be able to sell out a world tour the way they did – and their music going back to the late 80s and 90s. ‌ 'That brings an aura about in everybody and a buzz and the memories of growing up in Dublin with them – it's absolutely out of this world.' Sinead Millea from Kilkenny is also making her way to Croke Park for the gig, having previously seen the band in Limerick in 1996. She said: 'Maybe we're all going through a bit of a midlife crisis – I turned 50 this year, and look, Noel and Liam, they're in their 50s as well. ‌ 'And maybe things just dawned on them that life is too short and just, let's put grievances to bed. They seem to be getting on great, and it's fabulous. "And at the end of the day, music transcends everything, and we're all here to enjoy a brilliant night and to share it with the people that mean the most. It's just amazing. The weather is fabulous and it's a brilliant venue.' ‌ The support acts for the Dublin dates are Richard Ashcroft from The Verve and Cast, formed by John Power after he left The La's. The setlist has crowd-pleasing hits such as Cigarettes And Alcohol and Wonderwall. Fans have also been treated to favourites including Acquiesce, Some Might Say and Morning Glory – before a Don't Look Back In Anger, Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova crescendo. Oasis announced their reunion tour in August last year, 16 years after their dramatic split in 2009, when Noel quit after a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. The highly anticipated 41-date run has already seen the band play Cardiff, Manchester, London and Edinburgh. They will then take the tour global, playing in major cities across the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Japan.

Dublin ‘buzzing' ahead of Oasis' return to Ireland

Tens of thousands of fans have descend on the Irish capital for the first of two sold-out gigs at the country's largest stadium. The 90s Britpop superstars will perform to 80,000 people at Croke Park on Saturday and Sunday nights.
