Chrissie Hynde announces Duets Special album
Chrissie Hynde has announced the new album Duets Special. The Pretenders frontwoman will team up with a host of music stars for 13 extraordinary duets on the new record that will be released on October 17. Chrissie's new album features collaborations with k.d. lang, the late Mark Lanegan, Dave Gahan, Cat Power, Brandon Flowers, Debbie Harry, Shirley Manson, Alan Sparhawk and many more. The record's first single, Always On My Mind featuring Rufus Wainwright, was released on Wednesday (13.08.25). Discussing the origins of the album and the new track, Chrissie said: "I never thought about doing a Duets album before. "I think the idea came about in 2023. I was talking to Jörn, Rufus Wainwright's husband, on the phone. I think we were recommending novels to each other and for some reason I said hey, maybe Rufus and I should do something, and quickly scribbled out 10 songs off the top of my head. "So Jörn asked Rufus, who was up for it, and that's how it started. A spontaneous and what I thought would be a fun thing." The artists who perform with Chrissie, 73, on Duets Special celebrate 13 uniquely distinct voices through stripped-down, intimate arrangements and minimal, refined instrumentation. The tracks are all connected by the theme of great melodies. Hynde was one of the founding members of The Pretenders in 1978 but confessed earlier this year that she doesn't regard herself as a "great musician" despite her long and successful career in the business. The Don't Get Me Wrong singer said: "I'm not going to be self-effacing, but I'm not a great musician, I know that. "Well, because when I first started playing, I was too shy to go with the guys in the art room and play so I just had this foresight, like most people who end up writing songs, just to be on my own and write something." Duets Special Album Tracklist: 1. Me and Mrs Jones ( feat. k.d. lang) 2. Can't Help Falling In Love (feat. Mark Lanegan) 3. Sway (feat. Lucinda Williams) 4. Dolphins (feat. Dave Gahan) 5. First Of The Gang To Die (feat. Cat Power) 6. Always On My Mind (feat. Rufus Wainwright) 7. Every Little Bit Hurts (feat. Carleen Anderson) 8. I'm Not In Love (feat. Brandon Flowers) 9. It's Only Love (feat. Julian Lennon) 10. Try To Sleep (feat. Debbie Harry) 11. County Line (feat. Alan Sparhawk) 12. Love Letters (feat. Shirley Manson) 13. (You're My) Soul And Inspiration (feat. Dan Auerbach)

Liverpool's four debutants at Preston and how they fared in hint at future plans
PRESTON 1-3 LIVERPOOL: The Reds won their opening pre-season friendly of the summer as tributes were paid to Diogo Jota both on and off the pitch at Deepdale Sunday was never really going to be about the football match for Liverpool, but Arne Slot can take heart from the performances of four of the club's new faces. Emotional tributes were paid to Diogo Jota before the match against Preston North End at Deepdale, where many Liverpool fans arrived with Jota flags, scarves and shirts as they paid tribute to the club's beloved No.20. Preston had produced a special free matchday programme for the match in honour of both Jota and his brother Andre, and there were emotional renditions of the Preston anthem 'Can't Help Falling In Love' and Liverpool's 'You'll Never Walk Alone' before the game. When the match began though it was all about business for Liverpool's players and Slot, as difficult as that would have been for them. And Slot would have been pleased with what he saw from his four debutants. Giorgi Mamardashvili was the only one of the six summer signings to begin the game at Deepdale, and while the Georgian didn't have much to do he managed to perform with a minimum of fuss. His stature stands out, and he looks likely to be a dependable presence for the Reds if and when they choose to rest Alisson Becker. One moment in particular stood out when he took control of a difficult backpass and expertly played it out to Kostas Tsimikas, showing that he could well have all the ability of Alisson with the ball at his feet. With Florian Wirtz rested after playing for Germany in the Nations League this summer, and youngster Armin Pecsi on the bench, the second half saw appearances for Freddie Woodman, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez. Woodman, signed as third-choice goalkeeper, had to put up with some playful barracking from the Preston crowd having left this summer following three years at the club, and despite some occasional kicks out of play he was largely assured. The displays of Frimpong and Kerkez were always going to be of more interest to Reds fans though, and sure enough both full-backs did exactly what you expect of them. Bursting forward with pace they were both able to contribute to attacks, and there were eye-catching moments from both as they got back well to recover defensively when they appeared to be fighting a losing battle to get to the ball. It is that express pace that Slot has bought them both to the club for, and they seem to have fitted in smoothly. It was also notable to see Kerkez playing at left-back with Andy Robertson inside him at centre-back, a move which Slot could look to repeat in future games. Ultimately the Reds ran out 3-1 winners thanks to a first half strike from Conor Bradley and second period strikes from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, both of whom pulled off Jota celebrations. This was a day that will always be about him, but Slot will take a lot from the displays of his new boys too.

Liverpool's Nunez and Gakpo produce three Jota celebrations in emotional scenes
Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo both got on the scoresheet as Liverpool played their first match following the passing of Diogo Jota and took the opportunity to pay tribute against Preston Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo did not hesitate to pay tribute to Diogo Jota after finding the net in Liverpool's first pre-season match against Preston. The occasion marked the first time the Reds have taken to the field since the attacker tragically passed away alongside his brother, Andre Silva. Jota was killed in a car crash in northern Spain on July 3, with tributes pouring in from across the football world in the time since. Anfield has been a home to a mass of bouquets, scarves and t-shirts and become a place to reflect upon the life and passing of the No.20. But Liverpool's first time on the pitch was at Deepdale w here the sides observed a minute's silence before the match and sported black armbands. Preston had also produced a special free matchday programme in honour of Jota and Andre, and performances of Preston anthem 'Can't Help Falling In Love' and Liverpool's 'You'll Never Walk Alone' were sang before kick-off. Darwin was not going to allow the tributes to end there however. The forward capitalised on an error in defence by Jordan Storey, to take the ball past Daniel Iversen and doubled the Reds' lead after Conor Bradley's opening effort. Liverpool's striker then quickly emulated Jota in celebrations that will be fondly remembered after the Portugal international's 65 goals for the club. Darwin first outstretched his arms until they were rigid to clap in the fashion of a crocodile's bite before sitting on the turf. Jota's iconic gaming celebration followed, indicitive of his love for esports and gaming. The late 28-year-old held an ownership stake in LUNA Esports. Bradley's earlier celebration had been more muted. After scoring the full-back turned away before looking to the sky and then embraced his team-mates. Gakpo scored a third goal for Liverpool and also emulated the clapping motion that Darwin had earlier produced. The Dutch forward then held up his fingers to show the number 20 as he was approached by his team-mates. Liverpool boss Arne Slot detailed how the team will carry Jota in their thoughts moving forwards. "Nothing seems to be important if we think of what has happened," said Slot "But we are a football club and we need to train and we need to play again, if we want it or not. "What I've said to the players, I can say it here as well. It's very difficult to find the right words because we constantly debate what is appropriate. What is appropriate in our actions? What is appropriate [for] what we have to say? Can we train again? Can we laugh again? Can we be angry if there's a wrong decision? "And I've said to them, maybe the best thing for us to do is handle this situation like Jota was. And what I meant with that is that Jota was always himself, it didn't matter if he was talking to me, to his teammates, to the staff, he was always himself. "So let us try to be ourselves as well. So, if we want to laugh we laugh; if we want to cry we're going to cry. If they want to train they can train, if they don't want to train they can not train. But be yourself, don't think you have to be different than your emotions tell you." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Liverpool stars pay emotional tribute to Jota at first match since tragic death
Liverpool stars paid their respects to Diogo Jota in emotional tributes before the Reds' first match since the forward's tragic death. Jota was killed in a car crash in northern Spain alongside his brother Andre Silva on July 3, with a shocked football world paying tribute to the former Wolves star in the days since. A mass of bouquets, scarves and T-shirts have been left outside Anfield in tribute to Jota, while respects have also been paid outside his former home ground Molineux. But it was at Preston North End's Deepdale where the tributes were most keenly felt on Sunday, as Reds fans brought Jota flags, t-shirts and scarves and repeatedly sang Jota's song. Preston had produced a special free matchday programme for the match in honour of both Jota and Andre, and performances of Preston anthem 'Can't Help Falling In Love' and Liverpool's 'You'll Never Walk Alone' were sang before the game. Liverpool, led by captain Mohamed Salah, then emerged for an impeccably observed minute's silence before the match, with both sets of players sporting black armbands. Earlier Reds boss Arne Slot had outlined how the club will always carry Jota in their thoughts as they return to action, something he believes the Portuguese would have wanted them to do. Conor Bradley scores first Liverpool goal since Jota death after perfect tribute
Conor Bradley fired home the opening goal of the game at Deepdale after Preston North End and Liverpool had come together to pay tribute to Diogo Jota Conor Bradley offered a muted reaction after scoring Liverpool's first goal since the death of the Northern Irishman's good friend Diogo Jota. Right-back Bradley was on hand to turn home from close range after good work from Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa in the first half of the Reds' opening pre-season game of the campaign at Preston, where emotional tributes were paid to Jota before the match. After scoring Bradley then turned away and looked to the heavens, before turning to embrace the rest of his team-mates. Liverpool's players had gathered in the centre circle for a minute's silence prior to the match, while Preston had produced a special free matchday programme in honour of both Jota and his brother Andre, and performances of Preston anthem 'Can't Help Falling In Love' and Liverpool's 'You'll Never Walk Alone' were sang before the game. Bradley was one of Jota's closer friends within the Liverpool squad, and he attended the Cheltenham Festival alongside Jota, Scottish defender Andy Robertson and Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in March. Due to Jota's enjoyment of sports such as horse racing, Robertson, Kelleher and Bradley would often joke that he was more Scottish or Irish than Portuguese. Writing on Instagram after Jota's death, Bradley said: "Where do I start what an incredible footballer but an even better person I feel really lucky to have spent a few years with you. "Was always nice coming into the changing room in the morning and seeing you smiling and laughing and consistently calling me a hanger. "Always remember the first time you invited me to your room to play FIFA I think everyone knows where this is going, we was playing and by half time I'm pretty sure I was 5-0 down that was the last time I was ever falling into that trap. "When I first moved up from the academy you were always there for me and always helped me settle in with the lads which I'll be forever grateful for. "My thoughts are with your wife, children and family for losing both Diogo and Andre. I can't imagine how tough this is for you all, as I know how tough this feels for me today. Love you jots and I'm sure we will meet again." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
