Association of University Teachers protests delay in reverting to old pension scheme
1 2 Coimbatore: The Association of University Teachers (AUT) on Friday staged a protest against the state govt for its failure to implement the old pension scheme for the staff as mentioned in the 2021 election manifesto. Raising slogans against the DMK govt, the protesters also presented various demands for the teaching staff at the aided colleges. "The new pension scheme does not offer any benefits, especially for those families solely dependent on govt employment. Considering the livelihood, the govt should cancel the new pension scheme and implement the old pension scheme," said one of the association members. Pointing out that the govt had been holding back the arrears of the teaching staff at the aided colleges, the AUT members urged the state to release the same at the earliest. "The staff are deprived of promotion just because of the govt's failure to implement the Career Advancement Scheme. The govt should consider implementation of the CAS for the 60 teachers who joined Bharathiar University in 2016," another AUT member said. The protestors said the govt had also not released the arrears of those staff who were promoted with monetary benefits in the aided arts and science colleges and urged the state to disburse the same without any delay. Pointing to the unfilled vacancies, they said it had raised questions about the quality of education being imparted at the aided colleges. ‘Implement central service rules in aided colleges'
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Aided Colleges Teachers' Association (CACTA) has urged Union minister Amit Shah to ensure immediate implementation of Central Service Rules and UGC norms in the city's grant-in-aid colleges. MHA had notified the adoption of central service conditions for UT employees from April 1, 2022. However, the association said no service policy has been framed for aided colleges in over three years. It said the delay has caused uncertainty among teaching and non-teaching staff and could affect the functioning of institutions that have been part of Chandigarh's academic and sporting history. CACTA secretary Amitabh Dwivedi said the colleges have produced sports personalities such as Kapil Dev, Neeraj Chopra, Manu Bhaker, and Sarabjot Singh, but their faculties still await service conditions already approved for the UT. The association highlighted pending issues including Career Advancement Scheme promotions since 2016. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). AUT holds protest over pending faculty CAS benefits, salary issues
Over 100 members of the Tiruchi zonal chapter of Association of University Teachers Tamil Nadu (AUT), held a demonstration at the District Collectorate premises on Wednesday to express their concerns over pending salaries and employment issues. 'The protest was held to urge the authorities to sanction the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) service and monetary benefits of staff in government aided colleges that have been denied for the past four years. Secondly, despite the fact that teachers who have gone to court and got favourable orders regarding this issue, the Department of Higher Education and the Government have preferred a Special Leave Petition at the Supreme Court, which is coming up for trial on August 1. This exposes the partial attitude of the Government towards teachers,' a senior AUT leader said. Staff in 163 aided colleges have not been sanctioned CAS benefits for several years by the Department of Higher Education, even though they had been given to teachers in government arts and science colleges, added the AUT leader. The body also petitioned the authorities to pay salaries of 106 teachers and administrative employees of the erstwhile constituent colleges of Bharathidasan University that had ceased from April. The petition condemned the delay in approval of faculty appointments in several aided colleges. AUT Tiruchi general secretary K. Raja, treasurer K. Syed Ahamed Kabeer, and members from other zonal chapters, spoke.

Aided college teachers protest delay in CAS salary benefits
1 2 Madurai: Around 300 faculty members, including 100 women professors from govt-aided colleges, staged a day-long sit-in protest on Monday at the Joint Director of Collegiate Education Office in Madurai. The demonstration was led by the Association of University Teachers (AUT) and the Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa, and Alagappa University Teachers' Association (MUTA), representing aided college staff across Tamil Nadu. The protest was part of a coordinated statewide agitation across eight zones — Chennai, Trichy, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, and Thanjavur — demanding immediate implementation of long-pending Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) salary benefits and arrears, delayed by over four years. While the higher education department had issued Government Order No. 5 sanctioning CAS promotions and pay hikes, aided college teachers alleged they have yet to receive any benefits, unlike their counterparts in government colleges who were paid their dues. "Out of the eight zones, CAS benefits have been implemented only in Coimbatore and Thanjavur," said Dr A T Senthamarai Kannan, general secretary of MUTA. "We've raised this issue more than 30 times, but there's been no resolution." He pointed out that despite a directive from the chief minister for immediate implementation of government orders, aided college faculty remain excluded. He also noted that incentive increments for MPhil and PhD holders have not been disbursed. The unions said the higher education department had assured them in June that CAS benefits would be included in the July 2025 salary, but the promise was not kept. Protesters urged the government to release the pending CAS salary and arrears without further delay. MSID:: 122955317 413 |
