Former Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney could land at Florida

Former Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney could land at Florida Former star Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney may soon have a new home. Per Baseball America's Jacob Rudner, Florida is in the mix for the former Fighting Irish backstop, who hit .348 with 17 home runs and 53 RBIs as a sophomore with the Fighting Irish. He is one of the more intriguing players currently in the transfer portal. This past season, the Gators used Luke Heyman and Brody Donay behind the plate. An injury to Heyman near the end of the year forced Donay to become the full-time catcher the rest of the way, but his defense was an issue. Could the Gators shift him to first base or designated hitter? UF did bring in JUCO catcher AJ Malzone, but landing Tinney would be a real coup. It helps the cause that the Gators landed former ND pitcher Ricky Reeth, whose pitches were caught by Tinney in South Bend this past season. Losing Tinney was a tough blow for the Irish. He was the team's best player and a centerpiece of Shawn Stiffler's rebuild in South Bend. Notre Dame baseball loses its best player, catcher Carson Tinney, to the transfer portal

Notre Dame baseball loses its best player, catcher Carson Tinney, to the transfer portal It was a breakout year for Notre Dame baseball catcher Carson Tinney, as the sophomore is up for multiple national awards. Unfortunately he has made a decision that will make a major impact on the Irish, as Matt Freeman reports that he is going to enter the transfer portal. This is a huge blow to head coach Shawn Stiffler's rebuilding process, as Notre Dame looked like they had turned a corner late this year and it was going to bring a lot of momentum into the 2026 season. Tinney was absolutely dominant this spring, hitting .348 with 17 home runs, 53 RBI while slugging .753. He was the offensive leader for the Irish in all of those categories, along with some excellent play from behind the dish. Notre Dame still had rising juniors in Troy Reader and Davis Johnson along with rising sophomore Trent Hartman on the roster, but Tinney was clearly the best option for Stiffler. This isn't what any Notre Dame baseball fan wanted to see, but after narrowly missing out on the NCAA Tournament, it seems like Tinney wanted to play somewhere where he could make the postseason. Best of luck to Carson, but it's a sad day in South Bend.

Notre Dame baseball finds out its fate regarding the NCAA Tournament

Notre Dame baseball finds out its fate regarding the NCAA Tournament Monday was a big for NCAA Baseball, as they announced the field for the tournament, and unfortunately, Notre Dame was left out. Entering the ACC Tournament, the Irish looked like they had a great chance to make it, but following a first-round loss to Boston College, the uphill battle seemed like it was too much to overcome. That ended up being the case, as Notre Dame has now finished its season with a 32-21 record. It was head coach Shawn Stiffler's third-year in South Bend, and he has yet to guide the Irish to a postseason berth. There is some excitement around the program, as sophomore catcher Carson Tinney has emerged as one of the top players nationally, freshman Bino Watters being second on the team in batting average, and another freshman in outfielder Jayce Lee getting valuable experience. The expectations heading into year-four will be the biggest since Stiffler took over the program, and although Notre Dame missed the tournament this year, they have laid the foundation to be a much more competitive team next season.

Multiple Notre Dame baseball players earn All-ACC honors

Multiple Notre Dame baseball players earn All-ACC honors Notre Dame baseball had a pretty good season this spring, as they ended the regular season with a 32-20 record, 14-16 in ACC play. While the Irish are the No. 11 seed in the conference tournament, there were multiple players that stood out this season, and on Monday they were rewarded by the ACC for their play. Catcher Carson Tinney was named to the first-team, and also got more national recognition on top of what he earned last week. He was named as a semifinalist for the Buster Posey Award, going out to the top catcher in the country. The sophomore hit 17 home runs, had 53 RBI and scored 51 runs on the year. While he was the only Notre Dame player to make the first-team, two starting pitchers made third-team All-ACC in Rory Fox and Jack Radel. Each of them played a huge part in the Irish's success this year, and hopefully that doesn't end later today. Fox led the team in ERA with a 3.34 mark, with Radel just behind him at 3.58. Freshman outfielder Bino Watters made the conference All-Freshman team, after hitting .317 with 9 home runs and 38 RBI. The future is bring for the Irish, considering how young they were this season, and the talent that returns. Hopefully this was the stepping stone they needed to make a much bigger splash in the conference and nationally next season. Congrats to all four of the Notre Dame baseball players who were honored by the ACC.

Notre Dame baseball blows out Miami behind two Carson Tinney HR's to win road series

Notre Dame baseball blows out Miami behind two Carson Tinney HR's to win road series In a series that Notre Dame baseball needed to keep its hopes alive for a NCAA Tournament bid, the Irish did exactly that. The two teams split the first two games, and on Saturday afternoon, played the rubber match, with Notre Dame coming out victorious 12-2. The game wasn't as lopsided as the final looks, as the two teams were even at 2 after five innings of play. That's when the Irish offense exploded for ten runs over the final four innings. Star catcher Carson Tinney, who was named as a Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist earlier in the week, led the offense with three hits, two of them for home runs and 4 RBI on the day. Shortstop Estevan Moreno wasn't a slouch at the dish either, as he also added a homer and 3 RBI. Jackson Dennies got the start for Notre Dame, going 4 and two-thirds innings, allowing just two runs with two strikeouts. Ricky Reeth came in relief and shut the door on the Hurricanes, going 2 and-a-third scoreless and then Oisin Lee closed it out with 2 innings of scoreless ball. The win puts Notre Dame's overall record at 32-20, with an ACC record of 14-16. This series win should help its chances to make the NCAA Tournament, as Miami is expected to make the field as well. The regular season is over for the Irish, with the ACC Tournament set to start on May 20th.
