Former Notre Dame baseball player Charlie Vercruysse transfers to Purdue
After star catcher Carson Tinney found a new home with Texas, another former member of Notre Dame's baseball program landed at another school. Infielder/outfielder Charlie Vercruysse has decided to continue his career at Purdue after entering the transfer portal earlier this month. He did not see action with the Fighting Irish during his freshman campaign, but he recorded 137 career varsity hits at University High School (Bloomington, IL). He was named first-team all-conference from 2022-2024. The 6-foot-2, 177-pound Vercruysee will have four years of eligibility left. It's an unfortunate loss for Notre Dame's program, but we wish him the best. Star catcher Carson Tinney has transferred from Notre Dame to Texas
The biggest development for Notre Dame baseball this offseason is how they will replace its star catcher Carson Tinney, who opted to leave the program shortly after the season concluded. As one of the nation's top backstops, he was going to be a wanted transfer, and on Monday he announced that he has committed to the Texas Longhorns. The SEC program is one of the best in the country, as they won the conference regular season title in its the first year after dominating the Big XII previously. The Longhorns hosted a College World Series sectional as the national No. 2 seed, but didn't make it out to the Super Regionals. Regardless, Texas had a much better season than Notre Dame, and while Tinney had a ton of success in South Bend, it was clear that he wanted to play for a chance at a national championship. We wish Carson the best of luck, and hope to see him get selected high in next year's MLB draft.

Longhorns baseball connected to elite ACC Catcher in the transfer Portal
Longhorns baseball connected to elite ACC Catcher in the transfer Portal The Longhorns are in the mix for Carson Tinney Over the last week, Texas Longhorns baseball has been one of the busiest teams in the transfer portal. While they have added a few elite bats, they are not done looking for talent. They are reportedly in the mix for Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney, alongside the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs. With Rylan Galvin expected to enter the MLB Draft, the Longhorns will need a new catcher. Adding a player like Tinney would ensure that Texas still has an elite option behind the plate. Along with Galvin, Tinney is a finalist for the Buster Posey Award, which is awarded annually to the best catcher in college baseball. During the 2025 campaign, Tinney was a human highlight reel with the bat. In 48 games, the talented sophomore hit 27 home runs while driving in 53 runs. He led the Fighting Irish in walks with 34 and total bases with 119. Regardless of the opponent, the Valor Christian High School product was a hits machine. While the Longhorns would love to add Tinney's bat to the lineup, he is not the only player they have been connected to. Texas Is also reportedly showing interest in Virginia's Harry Ford, the best bat in the portal. Like Tinney, he is being courted by some of the top programs in the country, including Florida. If Tinney were to join Texas, he would be part of a talented transfer class. That group includes Luke Dotson, Kaleb Freeman, Hayes Holton, and Jack Moroknek. After winning an SEC championship, the Longhorns wasted little time improving their roster with some of the top hitters available. Over the next few weeks, Tinney will be a player to watch. Texas is one of the final teams in the mix, and they hope his next stop will be in Austin before becoming an MLB Draft pick in 2026.

Former Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney could land at Florida
Former Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney could land at Florida Former star Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney may soon have a new home. Per Baseball America's Jacob Rudner, Florida is in the mix for the former Fighting Irish backstop, who hit .348 with 17 home runs and 53 RBIs as a sophomore with the Fighting Irish. He is one of the more intriguing players currently in the transfer portal. This past season, the Gators used Luke Heyman and Brody Donay behind the plate. An injury to Heyman near the end of the year forced Donay to become the full-time catcher the rest of the way, but his defense was an issue. Could the Gators shift him to first base or designated hitter? UF did bring in JUCO catcher AJ Malzone, but landing Tinney would be a real coup. It helps the cause that the Gators landed former ND pitcher Ricky Reeth, whose pitches were caught by Tinney in South Bend this past season. Losing Tinney was a tough blow for the Irish. He was the team's best player and a centerpiece of Shawn Stiffler's rebuild in South Bend. Notre Dame baseball loses its best player, catcher Carson Tinney, to the transfer portal
Notre Dame baseball loses its best player, catcher Carson Tinney, to the transfer portal It was a breakout year for Notre Dame baseball catcher Carson Tinney, as the sophomore is up for multiple national awards. Unfortunately he has made a decision that will make a major impact on the Irish, as Matt Freeman reports that he is going to enter the transfer portal. This is a huge blow to head coach Shawn Stiffler's rebuilding process, as Notre Dame looked like they had turned a corner late this year and it was going to bring a lot of momentum into the 2026 season. Tinney was absolutely dominant this spring, hitting .348 with 17 home runs, 53 RBI while slugging .753. He was the offensive leader for the Irish in all of those categories, along with some excellent play from behind the dish. Notre Dame still had rising juniors in Troy Reader and Davis Johnson along with rising sophomore Trent Hartman on the roster, but Tinney was clearly the best option for Stiffler. This isn't what any Notre Dame baseball fan wanted to see, but after narrowly missing out on the NCAA Tournament, it seems like Tinney wanted to play somewhere where he could make the postseason. Best of luck to Carson, but it's a sad day in South Bend.
