Did fan pressure get Elle Fanning cast as Effie Trinket?
Elle Fanning has revealed that her casting as young Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping was heavily influenced by fan campaigns. Speaking during San Diego Comic-Con, the actress said the studio admitted they were 'getting kind of hounded online' by fans insisting she was perfect for the role. According to Fanning, the viral push worked. 'They were like, 'Okay.' So, they called,' she said. The prequel, directed by Catching Fire veteran Francis Lawrence, explores the origins of Haymitch Abernathy during the 50th Hunger Games. Joseph Zada leads as a younger Haymitch, with Fanning joining a star-studded cast that includes Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kieran Culkin, Maya Hawke, Ralph Fiennes and Glenn Close. Fanning will portray a youthful Effie Trinket, decades before the Capitol polish and powder known from Elizabeth Banks' portrayal in the original films. Though she hasn't started filming, Fanning has already spoken with Banks, who gave her blessing via text and sent flowers with the signature phrase, 'May the odds be in your favour.' Fanning called the moment 'very special' and admitted Effie was always her favourite character, admiring how Banks brought unexpected depth to what began as a flamboyant comic relief figure. Fan enthusiasm clearly played a role in shaping the film's direction. While it's rare for a studio to directly respond to casting demands, this seems to be a case where online momentum truly shifted the conversation. And the goodwill is mutual, Fanning's comments suggest she's keen to honour the legacy while bringing something new to the role. Whether she matches Banks' iconic take or redefines Effie for a new generation, the fans who rallied behind her will be watching closely.

Where to watch all four Hunger Games films for free ahead of Sunrise of the Reaping
The Hunger Games franchise is one of the biggest in the world and now fans can soon enjoy a back-to-back marathon of all four films for free. The Hunger Games fans can look forward to watching the Jennifer Lawrence saga for free ahead of the next prequel's cinema release. The Hunger Games, based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling novels, made its blockbuster debut in 2012 and has since become one of the globe's most successful film franchises. Set centuries into the future in the post-apocalyptic nation of Panem, the narrative unfolds under the oppressive rule of the Capitol. Each year, the Capitol enforces a brutal tournament, compelling each district to send a boy and girl to partake in a televised battle to the death, until only one victor remains. When Katniss Everdeen's (portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence) sister is selected for The Hunger Games, she steps forward in her place. Now, fans are in for a treat as they'll have the opportunity to binge-watch all four films in a free marathon. Starting with the original film, followed by Catching Fire and then Mockingjay parts one and two, the marathon will be available to stream from 4.55pm on Sunday, July 27, via Pluto TV. No subscription is necessary to enjoy Pluto TV's free content, which can be accessed through the Pluto TV app or a streaming service device like Roku or an Amazon Fire Stick. This Hunger Games marathon comes as anticipation builds for the franchise's next prequel, set to hit cinemas on November 20, 2026. Back in 2024, it was revealed that the prequel Sunrise on the Reaping was in development, following the release of Collins' novel earlier this year. The film is set to take place 24 years prior to the first film, focusing on the 50th Hunger Games, which featured Woody Harrelson's character Haymitch Abernathy. Harrelson's younger counterpart will be played by actor Joseph Zada, known for his recent role in the Prime Video thriller We Were Liars. Joining him will be Gossip Girl's Whitney Peak, The Great's Elle Fanning, Young Sheldon's McKenna Grace and Stranger Things' Maya Hawke. All four films will be available for streaming consecutively on Pluto TV's free Moviesphere channel from 4.55pm on Sunday, July 27.

'It's a story of brutality, survival, and the cost of becoming a victor.' From page to screen, again Francis Lawrence , who directed Catching Fire and the Mockingjay films, returns to helm the prequel, while screenwriter Billy Ray adapts the script. The book, released in March 2025, topped bestseller charts in multiple countries and sold more than 1.5 million copies in its first week. Live Events Set 24 years before the original trilogy, the story follows Haymitch as he is reaped into a deadly arena that's twice the size of any previous Games. Collins has cited the 18th-century Scottish philosopher David Hume as inspiration, particularly his work on the 'fragility of trust in perceived reality during societal collapse.' A powerhouse ensemble cast Lionsgate has assembled an all-star cast for the film, with rising actor Joseph Zada portraying a young Haymitch. Whitney Peak, known for Gossip Girl, plays Lenore Dove, while McKenna Grace steps into the role of Maysilee Donner, a tribute fans will recognize from Haymitch's haunting recollections. Rounding out the cast: Ralph Fiennes as President Snow Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee (taking over the role originated by Philip Seymour Hoffman) Elle Fanning as a young Effie Trinket Maya Hawke as Wiress Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman Billy Porter as Gamemaker Magno Stift Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle The challenge of casting without a script Casting the film posed a unique challenge. At the time casting began, neither the book nor the screenplay was available. 'We had to rely on character breakdowns and instinct,' casting director Debra Zane told Teen Vogue. 'It was unlike any project I've worked on.' Producer Nina Jacobson, who has overseen every film in the franchise, praised the final selections: 'Once the manuscript came in, everything clicked. These actors didn't just fit the characters visually, they became them.' The Hunger Games franchise has grossed more than $3 billion worldwide, and with Sunrise on the Reaping, Lionsgate appears poised to reignite the phenomenon for a new generation. 'It's not just a return to the arena,' Lawrence said in a recent interview. 'It's a return to the soul of Panem.'

Tyreek Hill's messy divorce gets uglier as estranged wife blasts NFL star for trying to ‘silence and intimidate' her
Tyreek Hill and Keeta Vaccaro are continuing to trade jabs through their divorce proceedings. Vaccaro has accused the Dolphins wideout of trying to silence and intimidate her, according to a filing by her lawyers that was obtained Tuesday by the Daily Mail, which was in response to Hill's motion requesting a gag order on their legal battle, originally filed by his attorneys on June 23. 'In terms of purpose, the Husband's motion is a clear attempt to silence and intimidate wife's counsel and control the representation that she receives in this litigation,' Vaccaro's legal team stated, accusing Hill of displaying a 'pattern of coercive control' in the matter. Instagram/Keeta Vaccaro 'The Goose-Gander Rule is instructive, and its application reveals the hypocrisy of husband's position,' Vaccaro's lawyers said. 'He wants to silence the wife's lawyers while his own pleadings disparage and denigrate the wife.' Advertisement The remarks from Vaccaro's lawyers were in reference to Hill's June 23 filing, in which his attorneys, Michael Gottlieb and Christi Bright, asked Miami Judge Spencer Multack to prohibit Vaccaro from making 'denigrating, disparaging and uncivil statements' that may harm his reputation in future filings. 5 Tyreek Hill speaks onstage at the Catching Fire panel at Fanatics Fest NYC 2025 at Javits Center on June 21, 2025 in New York City. Getty Images In her response, Vaccaro's attorneys, Evan Marks and Carolyn West, said the eight-time Pro Bowler wants a special grant for a gag order 'because he is famous' and doesn't want to 'look bad.' Vaccaro also alleged Hill, with whom she shares an 8-month-old daughter, Capri, hasn't paid temporary spousal or child support, among other things. Advertisement 'In the context of Husband not providing exclusive use of the martial residence, not providing use of a vehicle, not providing temporary spousal or child support or attorney's fees pendente lite, not agreeing to any timesharing schedule if it is not 50/50 and other behaviors and demands of Husband, the motion is another example of the Husband's pattern of coercive control, and it must be denied, because there is no legal basis for it,' her filing read. Since filing for divorce from Hill earlier this year, the split between Vaccaro and the Dolphins wideout has only gotten messier. Hill — currently entering his fourth season with the Dolphins amid offseason trade rumors — accused Vaccaro of stealing cash and 'fraudulently obtaining access' to his financial accounts to make unauthorized transfers to herself, her business and her 62-year-old mom, according to the Daily Mail. 'Instead of asking this court to enjoin the husband's lawyers from making such statements, the wife is marshalling the evidence that she will present to prove they are false.' 5 Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill (10) practices during mandatory minicamp at Hard Rock Stadium on June 10, 2025. The filing took place a day after police responded to a domestic dispute at their Miami residence, during which Capri was present. Vaccaro's mother, Alesia Vaccaro, said she called 911 because she feared for her daughter's safety after seeing a 'very aggressive and impulsive' Hill throw a laptop on the floor and walk toward the 35th-floor balcony with her granddaughter, according to an incident report. Police said Capri appeared to be in good health, but did notice a bruise on Vaccaro's upper chest. No arrests were made in the incident. The motion requested temporary exclusive use of the couple's home for Vaccaro, along with limiting Hill's access to Capri to 'supervised timesharing.'
