UTCA to hold Chandigarh Premier League from Aug 28
Six teams, namely Altruistians, Capital Strikers, Chandigarh Kings, Dr Morepen Dazzlers, Panchkula Bashers and Talanoa Tigers, will compete in the third edition of the Chandigarh Premier League to be organised by UTCA starting August 28. This will be the second time that UTCA T20 league will be played on a franchise-based model and the six franchises were launched along with the third edition of the league by UTCA on Tuesday. The six-team T20 league will see a total of 33 matches, including two semi-finals and final, with the final on September 13. 'While UTCA has been working since 2014, it got the BCCI affiliation in 2019 and since then our focus has been on the senior teams as well as the U19 and U16 teams. Our senior teams have been competing on the national circuit including Ranji Trophy since 2019 and the juror teams too have been competing at the national level. Apart from the tournaments like Balram ji Das Tandon Memorial U-16 tournament and U-19 Gully Cricket, UTCA had also introduced the T20 league in 2023 which was then converted into a franchise model for the second edition this February. With the third edition of the league, our aim is to develop the Chandigarh Premier League like IPL. While we have missed on a broadcasting partner this year, we expect to do the same next edition,' said UTCA president Sanjay Tandon while unveiling the six teams during the league launch. Manan Vohra will captain Altruistians while Shivam Bhambri will captain Chandigarh Kings. Dr Morepan Dazzlers will be captained by Mohd Arslan Khan while Capital Strokers will be captained by Raj Angad Bawa. Sandeep Sharma will captain Talanoa Tigers while Ankit Kaushik will captain Panchkula Bashers. 'While states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been conducting T20 leagues since 2016, UTCA is one of the eight state units under the BCCI conducting its own T20 League. While the groundwork and other formalities at Sector 16 Stadium are set to be completed in coming days before the start of the league, the floodlights currently are not as per league requirements. The league will see morning and afternoon matches this year. We hope that the floodlights will be upgraded so that the league will be played in a day-night multiple matches format starting next year,' said Tandon. UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria will inaugurate the league on August 26 at Sector 16 stadium. The final of the league will be played on September 13 and 1983 World Cup winning Indian captain Kapil Dev will be the chief guest during the final.
