Chandigarh Premier League to begin on Aug 28
The announcement was made during a press conference held at a hotel in Sector 17, where UTCA president Sanjay Tandon shared the details of the much-anticipated league.
The CPL will be played in the T20 format and is scheduled to begin on August 28. It will conclude on September 13. The tournament will feature six franchise-owned teams, competing in a total of 33 matches, including two semifinals and the final.
To enhance fan engagement, two matches will be held each day at the Sector 16 cricket stadium.All matches will be streamed live on Fancode, offering wide digital accessibility and a professional viewing experience for cricket enthusiasts. The league was inaugurated on August 26 by Gulab Chand Kataria, governor of Punjab and Chandigarh administrator.The six franchise slots were allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to maintain complete transparency in team ownership.
The confirmed teams participating in the inaugural edition include Altruistians, Capital Strikers, Chandigarh Kings, Dr Morepen Dazzlers, Panchkula Bashers, and Talanoa Tigers.

Needing 201 to win, the Patriots just failed to chase down the target and fell short by three runs. The match went down to the final over by Bollywood star Preity Zinta co-owned Kings franchise and their captain David Wiese held their nerve. The match came down to the final delivery with Bidaisee and the Patriots requiring four to win off Wiese's last ball. Wiese nailed his yorker for most of the over but missed his length slightly off the crucial delivery to put one in the slot. Navin duly bunted down towards the boundary at long off only for the towering Tim David to pull off an ice-veined catch to give Kings victory by three runs and break Patriot hearts in the process. Preity Zinta's St Lucia Kings are the defending champions in the CPL. Her Punjab Kings team also reached the IPL 2025 final this year. 'We got a little bit too close in the end. Just glad we pulled that one out of the bag. It was a decent effort to get to 200, but we also know that in this field, 200 is probably just on par. So I think we did leave a couple in there. We didn't quite capitalise on those death overs. But I thought Johnson Charles batted beautifully to get us off to that start, and then Roston Chase and Tim David in the middle there just showed what they could do,' Wiese said after the match. RCB star Tim David carries on sparkling form Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Australia batter Tim David carried on his brilliant form in T20I cricket into the CPL 2025 season as well. David smashed 46 off 23 balls with 5 sixes and 1 four. He put on 86 runs for the fourth wicket with West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase. Chase was named player of the match for scoring 61 off 38 deliveries with the bat and cementing an all-round performance with 2/27 with the ball, his wily spin economical as ever and pocketing the wickets of Rilee Rossouw and Patriots skipper Jason Holder. 'It was a bit nerve-racking!' said Chase post-match. 'I think we made it a hard victory. I thought we could have won it a bit more outright, but I'm still grateful for the two points.' St Kitts & Nevis Patriots slump to third loss With the momentum shifting back and forth all match it was a bitter pill for the Patriots to lose at the last after Bidaisee played such a spectacular maiden CPL innings to finish with scoring 50 runs off just 36 balls to see the game go right down to the wire. The loss sees the Patriots with just one win in four matches and three defeats on the bounce. The Kings head to the top of the CPL table on net run rate despite their first match against the Falcons being abandoned due to rain.

Saint Lucia Kings win last ball-thriller to register first win of CPL
Basseterre [St. Kitts and Nevis], August 20 (ANI): In an exciting match, defending Champions Saint Lucia Kings beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by three runs in a last-ball thriller at Werner Park to register their first win of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, early on Wednesday, an official CPL statement said. Put in to bat after losing the toss, St Lucia Kings posted 200 runs in the first innings, riding on quick-fire half-centuries from Johnson Charles and Roston Chase and a 23-ball 46 from Tim David. Charles scored 52 off 28 balls and set the tone for a big total for SLK, the statement added. Whereas Chase scored a 38-ball 61 and picked up two wickets for 27 runs to be named the player of the match. Patriots started their chase well and stayed in the game till the end, thanks to Jason Holder's 29-ball 63 runs blitzkrieg and Bidaisee's steady 50, but fell Short by three runs. For the St Lucia Kings, Captain David Wiese and Khary Pierre picked up two wickets each, the statement SLK's first match was washed out due to heavy rain on Monday. They will face the Trinbago Knight Riders early on Sunday. 'I'm trying to be myself and trying not to be on social media or any of those kinds of distractions. It's kind of peaceful when I'm not using it,' he added. Shaw has started to get his belief back. 'I feel I have never lost. It's always about learning. Earlier, I was trying to think about the future and I don't think it worked for me. So now what I'm trying to do is go day by day. I try to be in the present. I'm that kind of person right now.' Asked if he received any messages or calls from the cricket fraternity during his 'tough times', pat came the reply: 'No one.' 'It's fine. I don't want anyone's sympathy. I've had my family's support and my friends who were there with me when I was not really well mentally. Obviously, people are busy doing their work and they have their family as well. So it didn't bother me at all because I had my family and then I was practising. 'I was in that zone where I was doing everything alone and it was really good for me.' Shaw said he has also been focusing on his fitness in the build-up to the season. 'These two-three months, I had my trainer come personally and train me, and I've got a dietician as well. 'All this over the last threefour months has really changed me physically and mentally.
