Battlefield playtest gameplay is leaking all over the internet, and fans seem cautiously but genuinely excited: 'Okay, we might be back'

Early playtesting of the next Battlefield game is now underway—there hasn't been an official announcement to that effect as far as I know, but we can tell because gameplay footage is flooding the internet. The testing is taking place under the auspices of Battlefield Labs, the initiative announced in February that aims to ensure future Battlefield releases go better than Battlefield 2042, the most recent addition to the series, which did not make an especially good impression among fans. The Battlefield Labs announcement video concluded with a 10-second clip of pre-alpha gameplay showcasing environmental destructibility, and that's central to quite a bit of the leaked gameplay footage as well. Interestingly, Charlie Intel said on X that the playtest is under NDA and that leaked videos "are being taken down immediately by EA," but it's not clear whether that's actually the case. BobNetworkUK_, who posted a compilation of four clips totalling about eight minutes of gameplay, wrote that "it seems EA retracted the takedowns." I don't know whether that's true, but there's no overlooking the fact that these videos are still out there, and not hidden in some secret, dark corner of the internet: Charlie Intel has than five million followers on X, so you can be quite sure EA knows it's sharing these videos. If EA is letting it all slide, it means two things: One, that NDAs are meaningless when developers solicit testing from the general public; and two, that EA has enough confidence in where the next Battlefield game is currently at that it doesn't mind letting the world lay eyes on it. That doesn't mean much at the pre-alpha stage of things, but on the whole I think it's more encouraging than a PR guy screaming "Don't look at it!" while desperately firing takedown orders like Animal Mother charging an enemy sniper. To speculate further, if EA did decide to let the leaked gameplay stand, it may have been encouraged to do so by the reaction to it. There is understandable caution and obligatory negativity here and there, but the overall response to the early build's crumply destruction tech that, from a distance, looks on par with The Finals is very positive. The audio in particular draws a lot of praise, but even though there are some glitches and oddities here and there, the whole thing looks pretty tight for a game that's supposedly still very early in development. 5 minutes gameplay, thoughts? from r/Battlefield Another point of "more excitement than you might expect": The scoreboard is back. First look at victory screen from r/Battlefield (To be fair, Battlefield fans were really mad that EA dropped the traditional scoreboard from BF2042, to the point that they successfully bullied developers into putting it back in.) Electronic Arts has a lot of ground to make up here. Battlefield has always played second fiddle to the Call of Duty series, and BF2042 was a pretty significant misstep in the eyes of many long-time fans of the series: EA put in a lot of effort into turning BF2042 around and largely pulled it off, but it needs the next game in the series to come out very strong if it wants Battlefield to be taken seriously as a modern military contender. These gameplay leaks are a long way from that, but they do at least look like a big step in the right direction. 2025 games: This year's upcoming releasesBest PC games: Our all-time favoritesFree PC games: Freebie festBest FPS games: Finest gunplayBest RPGs: Grand adventuresBest co-op games: Better together

Activision has now confirmed some in game content in Call of Duty is AI generated. 'Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in game assets,' Activision says as part of a required disclosure on Steam.

Call Of Duty Discloses AI Slop After Months Of Players Complaining

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players have been accusing various loading screens and calling cards from the game of being AI-generated since it came out last fall, but it was only ever based on vibes and the occasional very convincing piece of seemingly obvious AI slop. Now Activision has admitted to using AI-generated assets in the hit multiplayer shooter on its Steam page. The developers describe how their game uses AI generated content like this: 'Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in game assets,' reads the disclosure on Valve's storefront, recently spotted by CharlieIntel. While it doesn't elaborate any further on which assets are made with AI and how, the confession has reaffirmed what some fans had been claiming for months. The Black Ops 6 slop controversy began last October, a week before the game released, with allegations spreading on YouTube of certain prestige emblems looking AI-generated. A set of sexy vampire calling cards raised red flags again in early November, with fans pointing at different parts of the art that looked oddly rendered. But the most convincing examples of potential AI slop arrived in early December. Loading screens depicted hands with extra digits, a tell-tale sign of work produced by algorithms built on stealing other artists' work, but not knowing how to count. One loading screen included a black glove with six fingers holding billiard balls. The second was a zombie Santa holding up hand that had six fingers. Both were laughably egregious at the time, but also fostered fears that other less obvious examples might also have been AI-generated. The appearance of the Zombie Santa was even worse in the context of Zombies mode's voice actors being replaced amid a SAG-AFTRA strike for greater AI protections in game acting. Activision's new disclosure comes after previous reports that developers within the company were encouraged to experiment with new AI tools in their work. A report by Wired claimed an entire paid cosmetic was made with help from AI in 2023's Modern Warfare, after the publisher had greenlit the tools for help with making concept art and marketing materials. That same year, then CEO Bobby Kotick praised the work being done at OpenAI and other companies, suggesting the technology would be as transformative as the original Macintosh computer. Now Activision is owned by Microsoft, which touted the largest launch ever for Black Ops 6 last fall thanks in part to Game Pass, and has itself been moving full-steam ahead with trying to incorporate generative AI into game development. The company recently announced Muse, a model for visualizing gameplay built on data captured from people playing Ninja Theory's 2020 PvP game Bleeding Edge. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer even claimed similar technology would aid in game preservation by making it easier to emulate classics on modern hardware. But so far, Black Ops 6 has proven generative-AI tools and the current level of quality control around them often can't even get simple static images on loading screens right. Fortunately, a new SteamDB tag lets players filters games that us generative-AI out of their store searches. . For the latest news, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

New Call Of Duty Map Is Teasing The Next Tony Hawk Game

Another day, another piece of evidence that seems to indicate we are getting a new Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game in the near future. This time it's a teaser found in a new Call of Duty Black Ops 6 map. On February 20, Call of Duty Warzone and Black Ops 6 received a big new mid-season update. The patch added a ton of content, including some really expensive TMNT skins, new weapons, and—most importantly for THPS fans out there—Grind, a skateboard park map. And it's in here that we got out latest piece of evidence that a new Tony Hawk video game is soon to be announced. As spotted by Charlie Intel on Twitter, in the new Grind map, you can find a skate shop area and in there you can spot a small poster that clearly includes the OG Tony Hawk's Pro Skater logo as well as a date: March 4, 2025. In response to the teaser, Tony Hawk himself simply replied with eyeball emojis, seemingly confirming that, yeah, this is for sure a teaser for a new game. (Xbox on Twitter also replied with the same emoji.) Why did this appear in a Call of Duty game? Well, remember that before Activision was a Call of Duty machine, it published all the past Tony Hawk games. So this seems to be a bit of corporate synergy. How fun! This is just the latest (and most concrete) evidence of a new Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game. Earlier this week a skateboarder who appeared in the last game, 2020's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, claimed he's appearing in a new Tony Hawk 'remaster.' And in 2024, Tony Hawk himself claimed the series had a future and that he was working with Activision again. And on top of all that, on Wednesday, it was reported that Microsoft (which owns Activision) was planning to announce and release a new Tony Hawk game in June as part of a yet-to-be-announced summer event. The game is reportedly Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4, a project that was pitched years ago but which Activision passed on. The game is claimed to be called 'Project Chicago' internally and is set to shadow drop during the Xbox event this Summer. We'll have to wait and see if that report is accurate and just what that Call of Duty map is teasing, but it does seem like something is coming pretty soon and as a massive Tony Hawk's Pro Skater fan, I'm excited. .
