Maternal health drive in Lunglei showcased as best by NITI Aayog
Aizawl: District administration of Lunglei in south Mizoram earned national recognition on Friday as its flagship maternal and child health initiative — Project BLOOM — was showcased at the 'Best Practices Seminar' organised by NITI Aayog in New Delhi. The event celebrated successful interventions from 329 aspirational districts and 500 aspirational blocks across the country. Under the theme "Transforming Health: Breakthrough Interventions", Lunglei deputy commissioner Navneet Mann presented Project BLOOM (Better Living through Outreach, Optimal Maternal and Child Health) as one of the 19 selected best practices. Launched on June 17, 2023, Project BLOOM addresses maternal and child health challenges in the Lungsen aspirational block of Lunglei district. The region, marked by difficult terrain, high logistical costs, limited internet access, and awareness gaps, had long struggled with poor health indicators. The project seeks to bridge these gaps through a community-driven, convergence-based approach that integrates health, nutrition, transport, and behaviour change. CDC Shifts Child Covid Vaccination Guidance After RFK Jr. Post
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its childhood vaccination schedule to say that healthy children 'may receive' Covid shots — softened from its previous stance calling for them — after Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said it would no longer be recommended. When a parent wants 'their child to be vaccinated, children 6 months and older may receive Covid-19 vaccination, informed by the clinical judgment of a health-care provider,' the CDC website now says. It had previously recommended that everyone aged six months and older get vaccinated.
