Three men shot dead, another wounded in Cape Town
Three men were gunned down while having drinks at a house in Philippi East on Sunday night.
Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said the incident happened at around 23:15.
'According to reports, the victims were consuming alcohol inside a residence in Better Life, Philippi East, when unknown assailants entered the premises and opened fire.
'Three victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while a fourth was transported to a medical facility for treatment,' Traut said.
The men were aged between 28 and 39, Traut said.
Cases of murder and attempted murder have been opened for investigation.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident in nearby Brown's Farm, police arrested a 39-year-old man during a search operation after he was found in possession of a AK47 assault rifle with ammunition on Sunday night.
'The members were conducting stop-and-search operations in Tyhali Street, Brown's Farm, Nyanga, when they stopped and searched a vehicle. During the search, the members found the AK47 rifle with 13 rounds of ammunition. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition,' said police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg.
The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
