Hilary Duff omission from Disney Channel AI Mount Rushmore sparks backlash from fans and celebrities
Disney Channel, Lizzie McGuire, Disney Channel controversy, Hilary Duff backlash An AI-generated image shared by Complex Pop Culture featuring a Disney Channel 'Mount Rushmore' sparked backlash online after Hilary Duff was noticeably left out. The viral image, posted on April 17, 2025, featured Raven-Symoné, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Zendaya — all iconic Disney stars — but fans quickly pointed out the omission of Duff, who played a central role in the network's early 2000s success. Is this the Disney Channel Mount Rushmore? 👀 — Complex Pop Culture (@ComplexPop) April 17, 2025 Many social media users expressed disappointment, arguing that Duff — best known for her breakout role in Lizzie McGuire and the Disney Channel Original Movie Cadet Kelly — was essential to shaping the Disney Channel brand. 'The disrespect of Hilary Duff. SMH,' wrote actor O'Shea Jackson Jr. on X. The disrespect of Hilary Duff. SMH — O'Shea Jackson Jr (@OsheaJacksonJr) April 18, 2025 Some fans suggested the lineup should be revised, with Duff replacing either Gomez or Zendaya. Many described Duff as 'the blueprint' for Disney stardom, given how she paved the way for future stars to transition into mainstream music and film careers. This pains me to say because I love her, but Zendaya does not belong on a Disney Mount Rushmore. Her career really took off when she left Disney. Hilary Duff should absolutely take Zendaya's spot here. Lol — The Third King 👑 (@thirdking0208) April 18, 2025 Hilary duff and Ashley Tisdale deserve. And even the sprouse twins. Zendaya's best and biggest work came after Disney. — honest (@imthehonestboy) April 18, 2025 Beyond Duff, fans also called out the absence of other influential Disney alums, including Cole and Dylan Sprouse (The Suite Life of Zack & Cody), Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical, Phineas & Ferb), Brenda Song, Demi Lovato, and Christy Carlson Romano. Tisdale, in particular, was highlighted for her versatile impact across multiple hit franchises. Even Christy Carlson Romano weighed in, expressing frustration over the continued overlooking of her work as Kim Possible and Ren Stevens. What started as a nostalgic tribute quickly turned into a conversation about legacy and recognition. For many fans, a true Disney Channel 'Mount Rushmore' isn't complete without Hilary Duff — a name synonymous with the network's golden age.

An AI Channel Disney Mount Rushmore Has People Losing Their Minds Over One Actor Being Included, And The One Who Should Be In Their Place
Complex sent the internet into a frenzy as they paid homage to the women who helped shape a lot of our childhoods. On Thursday, the popular entertainment media company shared an AI image of a Disney Channel Mount Rushmore featuring some of the most notable child stars to come from the network — including Raven-Symoné, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Zendaya. Raven-Symone. Miley Cyrus. Selena Gomez. Zendaya. Is this the Disney Channel Mount Rushmore? 👀 — Complex Pop Culture (@ComplexPop) April 17, 2025 Complex Pop Culture / Twitter: @ComplexPop Before reading the caption, I noticed the image first, and I can't even lie, I thought the first sculpture was supposed to be UK actor Cush Jumbo from CBS's The Good Fight and Netflix's Stay Close. Tell me I'm not the only one who sees it? But I quickly realized her being there wouldn't make sense after seeing who else was featured, and immediately figured it must be queen Raven, resembling what she looks like today instead of her likeness on the Disney Channel way back when. Each woman chosen has undoubtedly made a major impact on Disney Channel, and has continued to leave their mark on pop culture. At the time, Raven was the youngest Black woman to have a show named after her, with That's So Raven (2003)... ...Miley went on world tours inspired by her Hannah Montana (2006) character... ...Selena had several spinoffs from her magical show Wizards of Waverly Place (2007)... ...and Zendaya's Shake It Up released three dance soundtracks. But despite their collective influence, some fans felt like one Disney alum was missing and should be swapped out with one of the chosen women. Tons of responses voiced their that Hilary Duff should've been added to the Disney Channel Mount Rushmore. Hilary starred on Lizzie McGuire (2001), along with Disney Channel Original Movies like Cadet Kelly. Christy Carlson Romano of Even Stevens and Kim Possible even entered the chat to voice her opinion: Let the record show that actors like Brenda Song (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody), Kyla Pratt (The Proud Family), and Demi Lovato (Sonny with a Chance) also received shoutouts.
