Broad Arrow's first European auction nets more than R630m at Villa d'Este
UK-based Broad Arrow Auctions, in partnership with BMW AG, has wrapped up its first European sale with more than €31.17m (R632.7m) in total sales. The auction took place over two days at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy, featuring a wide range of classic and modern cars, as well as boats and motorcycles. Held on May 24 and 25 at Villa Erba, the auction saw more than 70 lots go under the hammer, with a 78% sell-through rate. The event attracted strong in-person attendance and was watched live by more than 8,000 viewers on YouTube. A 1948 Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa topped the results, selling for €7.54m (R153.1m). Never before offered publicly, the early Ferrari is regarded as one of the most original examples in existence. It was commissioned by one of the brand's first customers and has competed in historic events such as the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio. Other notable results included a 1954 Siata 208S Spider, the last of 33 built, which sold for €1.75m (R35.5m). Modern classics also drew international interest. A 2003 Honda NSX-R with just 15,800km on the clock attracted global bidding — including from South Africa — and set a new world auction record for the model at €934,375 (R19m). A 1989 Ferrari F40 Competizione sold for €2.31m (R46.96m), while a 2023 Ford GT went for €613,750 (R12.46m). Motorcycle collectors were also catered for. A 1990 Ducati 851 F90 Corsa, previously owned but never ridden by the late John Surtees, sold for €81,250 (R1.65m). Image: Supplied A separate BMW-only sale took place on Saturday evening, featuring cars from private collections. A 1980 BMW M1, upgraded to Procar specification by BMW Motorsport, emerged as the top lot of the session, achieving €602,500 (R12.23m). 'Our Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este auction has been a resounding success,' said Joe Twyman, VP of sales for Broad Arrow's EMEA Region. 'The opportunity to present such a spectacular collection of the world's most desirable cars on the shores of Lake Como at the world famous Concorso was a great way to launch our first European sale.'

BMW Concept Speedtop unveiled for the first time, limited to 70 units globally. Here's what it gets
Debuting at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy, the new BMW Concept Speedtop is a reinterpretation of the brand's shooting-brake legacy Check Offers BMW Concept Speedtop, a limited production shooting brake based on the now discontinued BMW M8, has been unveiled by the German carmaker. Debuting at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy, the new BMW Speedtop coupe is a reinterpretation of the brand's shooting-brake legacy. Building on the BMW Skytop convertible, which was unveiled last year, BMW has now confirmed that the Speedtop will make the leap from concept to reality—with just 70 units slated for production. This limited edition is aimed at collectors and purists looking for exclusivity and muscular performance in a stunning, retro-inspired package. Also Read : BMW Motorrad Concept RR revealed at Villa d'Este. Is this the future of BMW superbikes? BMW Concept Speedtop: Design With a silhouette that harks back to the legendary Z3 M Coupe—affectionately dubbed the "clown shoe"—and elements from the Z4 coupe concept, the Speedtop blends modern aggression with nostalgic charm. Its three-door shooting-brake design gives it a distinctive stance, exuding elegance and athleticism in equal measure. The body is finished in a custom 'Floating Sunstone' gradient, a mix of silver and maroon that changes color with the light. The custom coating is highlighted by the two-tone, 14-spoke alloy wheels made for this concept. While last year's Skytop had a warm brown interior, the Speedtop goes with a white leather colour scheme for a touch of class and contrast throughout the cabin and luggage sections. BMW Concept Speedtop: Features The Speedtop's interior represents artisanal luxury. For the interior of the Speedtop, BMW has collaborated with highly regarded Italian leather artisans Schedoni, to develop custom, hand stitched travel cases that are consistent with the car's design aesthetics. These custom travel cases fit conveniently into leather strapped compartments located behind the front seats, making the Speedtop functional—as well as fantastic— for extended journeys. To further improve the cabin atmosphere, an ambient light strip has been incorporated into the cargo space—combining practicality and a touch of occasion. BMW Concept Speedtop: Specifications Beneath its sculpted hood, the Speedtop has some serious power to offer. Sharing its mechanical DNA with the BMW M8 Competition, it is powered by a 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 engine as stated with an imposing 460kW of power and 750Nm of torque. It's the most powerful non-electrified V8 in BMW's extensive lineup, with which we imagine will guarantee performance to match its exotic looks. While prices remain confidential, it is believed the Speedtop's price will well exceed the Skytop convertible's price of more than $570,000. Due to its rarity and ultra-custom, the Speedtop will likely become a collector's jewel in private collections internationally. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2024, Best SUVs in India. With such low production volumes and the commercial need to create rare batches to please clients, Pagani has produced engineering 'pull-forwards' like the Zonda R that informed the Huayra, and the Huayra R track car and Huayra BC that pulled forward materials and suspension design for the third-generation Pagani, the Utopia. Only five editions of the Imola will be built, guaranteeing its collectability. Mercedes-AMG's V12 delivers 827 horsepower. The engine also spools up 811 lb.-ft. of torque (1,100 ... Historic 1948 Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa Set for Broad Arrow Auctions
⚡️ Read the full article on Motorious An extraordinarily rare 1948 Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa, considered among the most historically significant and original examples in existence, will soon cross the auction block at the prestigious Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. Bearing chassis number 004 C, this Spyder Corsa is one of Ferrari's earliest customer competition cars. The Ansaloni-bodied model retains its original components, including the handmade aluminum bodywork, chassis, 2.0-liter Colombo V12 engine, and rare five-speed racing transmission. Marque expert Marcel Massini and Ferrari's Classiche certification confirm its unmatched originality. Chassis 004 C was initially delivered to Italian aristocrat and amateur racer Soave Besana in March 1948. Soon after delivery, it entered the renowned Targa Florio, finishing sixth overall. The car also competed in other iconic events including the 1948 and 1949 Mille Miglia, as well as numerous Formula Two races and hill climbs throughout Europe. After its competitive years concluded, 004 C eventually made its way to France, remaining largely unused until American automotive historian Stan Nowak discovered it in the mid-1960s. It was soon acquired by prominent collector Henry Austin Clark Jr., who meticulously restored it. Remarkably, the Ferrari remained within the Clark family for 50 years—from 1965 until 2015—achieving numerous awards and accolades, including a podium finish at the 2004 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and multiple Cavallino Classic honors. Never before offered publicly, this iconic Ferrari has consistently captivated enthusiasts for its purity and historic significance. Auction house RM Sotheby's estimates its value between €5.5 million and €7.5 million, reflecting its exceptional provenance and rarity. As one of only two 166 Spyder Corsas initially purchased by the Besana brothers, and among the few surviving models from Ferrari's foundational years, chassis number 004 C provides collectors with an unprecedented opportunity to own a piece of automotive history. Its forthcoming auction at Villa d'Este will surely draw significant interest from international collectors eager to acquire a car emblematic of Ferrari's earliest racing endeavors.
