Tracy Morgan Comedy Pilot Granted 2025-26 Series Order By NBC

NBC unveiled its fall slate Monday (May 12) and announced that Tracy Morgan's comedy series, The Fall And Rise Of Reggie Dinkins, was greenlit for a 10-episode series order. The series will star Morgan alongside Erika Alexander, Daniel Radcliffe, Bobby Moynihan, Precious Way and Jalyn Hall as it follows Reggie Dinkins (Morgan), a disgraced former football player on a mission to rehabilitate his image. Morgan secured the pilot order back in March and was the first pilot greenlight at NBC for the season, according to the network. The decision came after Pearlena Igbokwe became the Chairman, Television Studios, NBC Entertainment & Peacock Scripted back in January. The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins is Igbokwe's first new NBC scripted series pickup — and the network's only new scripted series for the 2025-26 season so far, Deadline reports. The outlet noted, 'There were multiple factors in play. Because of the timing of the executive restructuring late into the 2024-25 development cycle, NBC was late with its pilot orders, with only 'The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins' finished in time for the upfronts.' The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins will not interfere with The Neighborhood spinoff series Crutch, which Morgan also stars in and is headed to Paramount+. The spinoff centers around Francois 'Frank' Crutchfield (Morgan)— also known as 'Crutch' to his inner circle— 'a Harlem widower whose empty-nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home.' Cedric The Entertainer, who helms The Neighborhood, said of the new series, 'I'm excited to be expanding our 'The Neighborhood' universe by producing a show with the legendary comedian Tracy Morgan. This new character is the close cousin to my character Calvin Butler, and you will enjoy some of their many similarities. Morgan plays Crutch, a 'say-it-like-it-is' widowed father who is challenged when his two adult children and a couple of grandchildren need to move back home, and let's just say there will be several comedic complications.' Morgan added, ''Crutch' will be navigating the ups and downs of having his kids and grandkids back under one roof, and you know if I am doing this, there will be plenty of laughs along the way. I am so happy to be able to do this with my brother Cedric The Entertainer, Owen Smith and the rest of the amazing crew we have put together. Get ready for your new favorite show!' Neither show has a set premiere date. Cedric the Entertainer Talks Nixed Neighborhood Spinoff, Offers Update on Tracy Morgan Offshoot Crutch

Cedric the Entertainer is just as bummed as you are that The Neighborhood spinoff starring TV sons Sheaun McKinney and Marcel Spears is not moving forward. But he also admits that he was only 'somewhat' surprised by CBS' decision. 'I do recognize that we're in a very difficult time as far as television goes,' the star and executive producer tells TVLine. 'We were excited about doing this. We created the idea, and we intentionally tried to use an episode of The Neighborhood that we had in order to shoot it.' But as he points out, the TV industry is in a state of transition, and broadcast networks are 'not doing a lot of pilots [anymore]. They're not spending a lot of money… they're just kind of workshopping ideas. We thought we did a great job, but ultimately there wasn't enough room in the budget for what we had.' The Neighborhood Spinoff Not Moving Forward at CBS Fire Country's Stephanie Arcila Is 'Looking Forward' to Gabby's Exit Storyline - Whatever It May Be! The untitled spinoff, which was being eyed for the 2025-26 TV season, would have seen Malcolm and Marty Butler 'embark on new adventures, finally leaving their parents' nest to start the next chapter of their lives, finding themselves the newcomers in a neighborhood that's both close but yet worlds apart: Venice Beach,' according to a previously released logline. The aforementioned pilot — which also stars Justin Long (Mom), Kara Royster (Pretty Little Liars), Angelique Cabral and Hunter King (Life in Pieces) — will still air as planned on Monday, May 5 at 8:30/7:30c, and serve as the second half of The Neighborhood's hour-long Season 7 finale. 'I was a little disappointed, for sure,' Cedric, who co-wrote the episode, admits. But he's also excited that audiences will have a chance to see a glimpse of the show they wanted to make. He also has a plea for viewers at home: 'I want everybody to write in [to CBS], because I think people are going to see this season finale and be, like, 'That's a great show! Y'all should do that show!'' In the meantime, the comedian remains excited for another offshoot — the Paramount+ bound Crutch. Tracy Morgan will headline the multi-cam, but he will not reprise his Season 4 role as Calvin Butler's wealthy brother Curtis. Instead, he'll play a new character: Calvin's cousin, Francois 'Frank' Crutchfield – or, as his friends call him, Crutch — a Harlem widower whose empty nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son, Ivy League-educated lawyer Jake (Superior Donuts' Jermaine Fowler) and his free-spirited daughter Jamilah (Snowfall's Adrianna Mitchell) move back home. Tony Award winner Kecia Lewis (Hell's Kitchen) also co-stars as Crutch's meddling sister-in-law, Antoinette. 'We shot eight episodes,' Cedric tells us. 'We put together a really great cast, and it was fun to do some guest appearances,' confirming that he and Tichina Arnold will appear twice in Season 1 as Calvin and Tina, while Max Greenfield will put in an appearance as Dave. 'We're going to air it some time in the fall, and we're excited about that.' The Neighborhood's Season 7 finale airs Monday, May 5 at 8/7c on CBS (and streams next day on Paramount+). CBS Delivers 2 More Shocking Show Cancellations, Reveals 1 Spinoff Will Not Be Moving Forward

CBS has delivered another shocking blow to the TV lineup amid the ongoing list of the network's cancellations and show renewals. On Tuesday, April 22, it was announced that Poppas's House has been canceled. The show, starring Damon Wayans Sr. and Damon Wayans Jr., only lasted for one season. Damon Sr., 64, spoke out in a post shared on Instagram after the news was made public. 'Creating poppas house was such a beautiful journey,' he penned in a lengthy caption. 'My heart is full as I say thank you to every single person who made Poppa's House such a meaningful experience. To the incredible cast you brought so much heart, soul, and joy to every scene. It was an absolute honor to share the screen with you and create something special together. To the writers, producers, directors, and the entire crew you were the heartbeat of this show. Thank you for your dedication, your passion, and for showing up every day with love and commitment. You made the set feel like home.' 'A very special thank you to my son, Damon Jr. working beside you has been one of the greatest joys of my life,' he continued. 'And to my incredible family, siblings, children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who showed up as writers, guest stars, and creative forces you made this journey even more meaningful. It's such a blessing to have so much love on one set and to be able to create and laugh with family and friends.' He concluded the post by saying, 'Though Poppa's House is coming to a close, I'm walking away with deep gratitude, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories. This show gave me more than I could've ever imagined,' adding, 'To everyone who watched, supported, and believed in us thank you. Your love means everything. On to the next chapter, with nothing but love in my heart.' Poppas's House was not the only show to get the axe in the latest batch of cancellation announcements. It was also reported that the network will not move forward with the reality competition series The Summit, canceling the show after just one season. Additionally, the untitled spinoff of The Neighborhood about characters Malcolm and Marty will not be moving forward at the network, per TVLine. The second half of The Neighborhood season 7 finale was reportedly supposed to serve as the backdoor pilot for the spinoff, which is now defunct. However, another spinoff of The Neighborhood titled Crutch was previously greenlit. The show is set to star Tracy Morgan and is still moving forward. 'Crutch will be navigating the ups and downs of having his kids and grandkids back under one roof, and you know if I am doing this, there will be plenty of laughs along the way. I am so happy to be able to do this with my brother Cedric the Entertainer, [series creator] Owen Smith, and the rest of the amazing crew we have put together,' Tracy said in a previous statement. 'Get ready for your new favorite show!' CBS previously announced that The Neighborhood would be ending with season 8, which is expected to air during the 2025-2026 broadcast season. Season 7 is currently airing on TV.

Tracy Morgan to star in new NBC comedy pilot

Tracy Morgan will star in a new NBC comedy pilot as a disgraced former football player attempting to rebuild his reputation. The series, which is in development, comes from 30 Rock veterans Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, and Sam Means. Carlock and Means are writing the pilot, with Rhys Thomas directing and serving as an executive producer. The project is produced by Universal Television, Little Stranger, Bevel Gears, and 3 Arts. No other cast members have been announced at this time. Should the pilot be picked up, the show will air on NBC. Morgan's involvement in the project comes shortly after his announcement to star in the Paramount+ spinoff of CBS' The Neighborhood, titled Crutch. In this series, Morgan will play the cousin of Cedric the Entertainer's character, Calvin Butler. His deal allows him to star in both shows simultaneously. Morgan is best known for his role as Tracy Jordan on 30 Rock, which aired from 2006 to 2013. He earned an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of the unpredictable star of the fictional NBC sketch comedy show 'TGS.' Before his 30 Rock fame, Morgan spent seven years on Saturday Night Live, creating memorable characters like Astronaut Jones and Brian Fellows. Morgan's other credits include The Last OG, Crank Yankers, and stand-up specials such as Takin' It Too Far and Bona Fide.

The Neighborhood Spinoff: Justin Long Among 4 Cast in CBS Backdoor Pilot

The Neighborhood's population is growing by four. TVLine can confirm that Justin Long (Mom), Kara Royster (Pretty Little Liars), and Hunter King and Angelique Cabral (Life in Pieces) have been cast in the backdoor pilot for CBS' prospective Malcolm-and-Marty spinoff, which will double as The Neighborhood's Season 7 finale. Current Neighborhood showrunners Bill Martin and Mike Schiff will pen the script, and executive-produce alongside Cedric the Entertainer, Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling and Eric C. Rhone. Scroll down to 'meet' Malcolm and Marty's new friends, and get additional intel on the potential spinoff. 'A tech millionaire who is a mix of unjustified confidence and social ineptitude. Cerebral, impulsive and a genius, Bruce has no boundaries or filter when it comes to saying what's on his mind but deep down there's a sweetness at his core and his sincerity ultimately wins Marty and Malcolm over.' 'A child of privilege, Matisse is Malcolm's new neighbor and a would-be influencer. On the surface, she's spoiled rotten but she's also smart, interesting, sharp and analytical. When her father stopped bending to her every whim, she took it as a wake-up call and is now selling her own fabulousness.' 'Dark, sardonic and often under the influence of edibles, Bellamy works generating content for the coolest cannabis boutique in SoCal. Despite her jaded outlook, she's also hilarious, fun and a fiercely loyal friend. Bellamy does have secret dreams of doing something bigger, but for now, she's content in her carefully curated world of detachment and irony.' 'Impeccably dressed, high energy and unpredictable, Lisa is a fast-talking book agent who seems genuinely passionate about Malcolm's writing talent and hopes to represent him and take him to the top of the literary world.' The Malcolm-and-Marty series is separate from the Tracy Morgan-led Crutch. That Neighborhood spinoff, which received a series order in May, will bypass CBS and bow on Paramount+. As previously reported, Morgan will not reprise his Season 4 role as Calvin Butler's wealthy brother Curtis, but instead play a new character: Calvin's cousin, Francois 'Frank' Crutchfield – or, as his friends call him, Crutch — 'a Harlem widower whose empty nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son (Jermaine Fowler) and free-spirited daughter (Adrianna Mitchell) move back home.' Development on a second Neighborhood offshoot follows CBS' successful launch of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, the second spinoff (following Young Sheldon) derived from The Big Bang Theory. In addition to McKinney and Spears, The Neighborhood currently stars Cedric the Entertainer (as Calvin), Max Greenfield (as Dave), Tichina Arnold (as Tina), Beth Behrs (as Gemma), Skye Townsend (as Courtney) and Hank Greenspan (as Grover). New episodes air Mondays at 8/7c on CBS (and stream next day on Paramount+). A decision on whether The Neighborhood will return for an eighth season is expected to be made in the spring.
