Anna Wintour steps back as US Vogue editor-in-chief after 37 years

Longtime Vogue powerhouse Anna Wintour has announced she is stepping down as Vogue editor-in-chief. She told staff on Thursday that she's seeking a head of editorial content to handle more of the day-to-day operations. She isn't leaving the publication entirely, though. Wintour, 75, is keeping some power at the magazine that built her reputation in fashion by retaining editorial control. She will remain chief content officer for Condé Nast and global editorial director of Vogue. 'And it goes without saying,' she joked, 'that I plan to remain Vogue's tennis and theater editor in perpetuity.' The new lead will report directly to Wintour in her capacity as global editorial director, Vogue said in a statement. 'Anybody in a creative field knows how essential it is never to stop growing in one's work. When I became the editor of Vogue, I was eager to prove to all who might listen that there was a new, exciting way to imagine an American fashion magazine,' Wintour told staff. 'Now, I find that my greatest pleasure is helping the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas, supported by a new, exciting view of what a major media company can be,' she added. As chief content officer, Wintour will continue to oversee every Condé Nast brand globally, including Vogue, Wired, Vanity Fair, GQ, Glamour, Bon Appétit, Tatler, Allure and more - with the exception of The New Yorker. She will also remain involved in Vogue World, a traveling fashion and cultural event the magazine began in 2022. The news shook the fashion world amid headlines that Wintour, who also oversees the annual Met Gala - fashion's biggest night and a major fundraiser for the fashion wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art - was stepping down from the magazine. Wintour transformed Vogue during her decades at the magazine. She was named creative director in 1983, served as editor-in-chief of British Vogue from 1985 to 1987, and then rejoined the American title as editor-in-chief. She modernized the magazine by featuring celebrities on its covers and mixing high fashion with more affordable street style. She championed emerging designers, including Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, and broadened the brand's reach by adding new titles around the world. The British-born Wintour was given a Damehood for her services to fashion earlier this year. Following the investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace, Dame Anna said she did not intend to retire anytime soon. She said: "The last time I was here, the Queen gave me a medal and we both agreed that we had been doing our job a very long time, and then this morning His Majesty asked me if this meant I was going to stop working, and I said firmly, no."

Husband of Dame Deborah James finds love again with 'mystery woman'

The widower of Dame Deborah James has romance in his life again, three years on from her death. Dame Deborah died on June 28, 2022, at the age of 40, having been diagnosed with incurable bowel cancer in 2016. Throughout her career, she was incredibly vocal about living with the disease via the You, Me and the Big C podcast and raised over £11million with her Bowelbabe Fund. Before she died, the journalist – who received a Damehood just weeks before – insisted that she wanted her husband, Sebastien Bowen, to 'move on' when she was no longer around. And now, he is doing exactly that and fulfilling her wishes. New photos have captured Sebastien, who Dame Deborah wed in 2008, on a loved-up outing with a mystery woman. Sebastien strolled hand-in-hand with his other half along the towpath beside the River Thames after lunching at The River Cafe in Hammersmith, west London, which has proven to be a celebrity hotspot. The 45-year-old was in deep conversation with the unnamed brunette, who appeared to be in her thirties and was sporting a chic red dress and sunglasses. They laughed and joked, walking at a leisurely pace with their arms firmly around each other's waists. Having spotted the pair, a passer-by told MailOnline: 'They looked like they were very much in love. 'It was very sweet. For anyone who was inspired by Dame Deborah's attitude to life, it was really heartening to see her husband looking happy again.' In December last year, the publication revealed that Sebastien, who first met Dame Deborah in 2005, was open to dating again after losing his wife of 14 years. The publication stressed that it was 'early days,' but he had been on 'several dates' in a bid to 'rebuild his life'. Adding that he was 'taking things slowly,' a source shared: 'Deborah is going to be a tough act to follow, as they had a fantastic marriage and made a great couple. 'But Seb feels the time has come for him to move on, as Deborah wanted him to.' Dame Deborah had two children with Sebastien: a daughter named Eloise, now 15, and son Hugo, now 17. In May 2022, she revealed that she had moved to hospice-at-home care, writing on Instagram that her body 'simply wasn't playing ball' despite 'trying everything'. She added that she was spending her final days 'with [her] incredible family all around [her]' focusing on 'making sure [she's] not in pain and spending time with them'. Later on her BBC Radio 5 Live show, Dame Deborah reflected on her marriage and hopes of him finding someone else. 'I don't think I have ever seen my husband so emotional, but now he has suddenly realised the enormity of this,' she said. 'I have given him strict instructions: I want him to move on.' She added: 'He's a handsome man. I'm, like, 'Don't be taken for a ride, don't marry a bimbo, find someone else who can make you laugh like we did'.' The former deputy headteacher turned avid campaigner also joked on her podcast that she had a few people whom she didn't want Sebastien to hook up with. 'I would do my damned hardest to haunt him.' Sebastien is a banker working for the private equity firm Pomona Capital. More Trending In 2023, Dame Deborah's mother, Heather, told the Daily Telegraph: 'We give Seb our blessing. 'We want him to move forward when he feels ready.' 'Deborah will be a hard act to follow, but he has our blessing,' she repeated. 'Because Deborah wanted him to move on, we want him to move on.' Romeo Beckham shares adorable message to dad after he's finally knighted

Romeo Beckham has shared an adorable message with his dad David Beckham to celebrate his long-overdue knighthood. The former England football captain, 50, officially became a Knight of the Realm this week after years of being snubbed. Sir David took pride of place on the King's Birthday Honours list, alongside actor Gary Oldman and The Who frontman Roger Daltrey, plus Damehood recipients Elaine Paige, novelist Pat Barker and pottery designer Emma Bridgewater. Sir David, who previously received an OBE in 2003, described the honour as 'incredibly humbling' and called it 'an emotional moment for me to share with my family.' This comes amid rumours of a 'feud' between David and Victoria, 51, and their other son, Brooklyn, 26. Among those celebrating Sir David's achievement was son Romeo, 22, who took to Instagram to share a sweet tribute to his famous father. Posting on his Instagram Stories, Romeo shared a snap of himself and his dad at what looked like a swish party. In the picture, the future knight looks awkwardly at the camera while holding a glass of wine, clad in a white tuxedo and black bow tie. Romeo, meanwhile, can be seen grinning at his old man. 'So so proud of you,' he captioned the post, signing off with four heart emojis. Sir David was knighted for his services to sport and charity, including his work with Unicef in their campaign Malaria No More. In a statement to the PA News Agency, he said: 'Growing up in East London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour. 'To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career and literally a boyhood dream come true. Off the pitch I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to represent Britain around the world and work with incredible organisations that are supporting communities in need and inspiring the next generation. 'I'm so lucky to be able to do the work that I do and I'm grateful to be recognised for work that gives me so much fulfilment. It will take a little while for the news to sink in but I'm immensely proud and it's such an emotional moment for me to share with my family.' This means that Victoria, who received an OBE in 2017, will get a new title too – becoming known as Lady Victoria Beckham. Sir David's honour comes amid spiralling rumours of disharmony in the Beckham family home, with whispers of a feud between the Beckhams and other son Brooklyn. Rumours began heating up after and wife Nicola Peltz, 30, were a no-show for his dad's 50th birthday celebrations in April. Brooklyn and actress Nicola were wed in 2022 – and have seemingly kept their distance from David and Victoria since. The following month, Brooklyn added fuel to the fire by vowing to 'always choose' his wife. Sharing a video of himself riding a motorbike with Nicola on his back, Brooklyn wrote: 'My whole world x I will love you forever x 'I always choose you baby x you're the most amazing person i know xx me and you forever baby.' This led to backlash from some followers, who took it as a sign of 'disrespect' toward his parents. Speculation intensified this week as it was spotted that Brooklyn has covered up a tattoo dedicated to his mother. He used to have 'mama's boy' tattooed over his heart in a typewriter-style font, referencing his close relationship with his former Spice Girl mum. However, that has now been hidden beneath a sketch of Nicola's bouquet from their wedding day. Following the missed birthday bash, David reached out to Brooklyn to tell him that he was 'missed.' More Trending Posting on Instagram, David shared a series of pictures from a trip to Scotland he'd taken with Romeo and youngest son Cruz, 20, explaining: 'Six months ago I planned a trip with my boys at the start of last week to camp and fish for my 50th was so much fun.' A few hours later, he shared a selfie he'd taken with Romeo and Cruz, tagging in absentee son Brooklyn with the comment: 'You were missed.' 'Fun times in Scotland, he wrote. Got a story? Sir David Beckham 'incredibly humbled' by knighthood: 'I never could have imagined this...'

David Beckham has received a knighthood for services to sport and charity. The 50-year-old footballer admitted after the King's Birthday Honours were unveiled on Friday (13.05.25), and it was confirmed that he will now be known as Sir David Beckham, he has found it all to be a "truly humbling" experience. He said: "Growing up in East London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour. "To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career, and literally a boyhood dream come true." David is married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham and has Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and 13-year-old Harper Seven with her. The Manchester United legend - whose wife will now be known as Lady Victoria Beckham - noted that while it will "take a little while" to comprehend the honour, he just wants to be able to celebrate it with his family. He said: " I've been so lucky to be able to do the work that I do and I'm grateful to be recognised for work that gives me so much fulfilment. "It will take a little while for the news to sink in but I'm immensely proud and it's such an emotional moment for me to share with my family." In 2003, he was given an OBE by the late Queen Elizabeth for services to football. Just one day before the honour was announced, Sir David was seen chatting to King Charles at The King's Foundation Awards as part of his role as an ambassador for the monarch's foundation. The former England captain has a long history of carrying out charitable work, which Honours Committee officials will have considered before deciding to bestow him with the honour. What's more, rock star Roger Daltrey - who is best known as a member of The Who - has also received the same honour after leading the Teenage Cancer Trust concerts for more than two decades, and accepted it on behalf of all the "unsung heroes" who have a part to play in the charity. He said: "It is a wonderful honour for me and especially for Teenage Cancer Trust. I accept this award not only for myself but on behalf of all the unsung heroes who have given their energy towards making the Teenage Cancer Trust the success it has become. "The likes of The Who and their fans, Angie Jenkison, Lindsay Hughes, Des Murphy, Rob Ballantine and the late Chris York are some of many who have done so much to elevate the charity, to the point where it now has 28 specialist units in NHS hospitals across the UK." Meanwhile, Elaine Paige - who is best known for her lengthy career in musical theatre - has been awarded a Damehood for her services to music and charity and was "thrilled and surprised" when she heard about the honour. She said: "I've got all these different emotions coming at me all at once. "I'm proud and I feel grateful and I'm thrilled and surprised, and so it's been quite a lot to take in." The West End star and radio host- who made her name by starring in original London productions of Cats, Les Miserables and Evita - is a patron of The Children's Trust and The Dan Maskell Tennis Trust.
