Notre Dame has '26 commits Davis Jr., O'Brien on Rivals' 2025 preseason All-American team
Rivals 2025 Preseason High School Football Defense All-Americans ✅Read: Notre Dame's 2026 recruiting class has been in the news for a good portion of the offseason due to the high volume of top talent that the Fighting Irish were able to get committed. So the fact that ND was able to place two 2026 commits on Rivals' 2025 preseason high school All-American list comes as no surprise. Legacy recruit Thomas Davis Jr. is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound outside linebacker from Weddington (Matthews, NC) who was forever linked to Georgia, his father's alma mater, but Davis Jr. committed to ND three days after he visited the Fighting Irish during their 52-3 win over Florida State last fall. He recorded 92 tackles and 13.5 tackles for loss last season. Joining Davis Jr. on Rivals' list is Joey O'Brien from La Salle College (Glenside, PA), who helped lead a defense that only gave up 127 points in 11 games last season. The top safety prospect thought he was going to be enrolling at Oregon until he visited South Bend and fell in love with the atmosphere. The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder is dangerous playing offense as well, as he caught 68 passes for 1,029 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2024. Son of Panthers legend committed to Notre Dame's loaded legacy class
NFL legacy recruits find their home at Notre Davis Jr., Devin Fitzgerald, and Kaydon Finley now are all officially apart of this 2026 class. His name should be very familiar to Carolina Panthers fans, but Thomas Davis Jr. might be making one for himself on the gridiron. Davis Jr., the son of former linebacker and Panthers legend Thomas Davis Sr., is currently committed to play his college football at the University of Notre Dame. He is one of three legacy talents in the Fighting Irish's 2026 recruiting class—which also features Kaydon Finley, son of former Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley, and Devin Fitzgerald, son of former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver and future Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald. Like his father, Davis Jr. mans the linebacker position. Per 247 Sports, the Matthews, N.C. native and Weddington High School standout is the 176th-ranked player in the nation, and also received offers from a number of local programs including Charlotte, Clemson, North Carolina, North Carolina State and South Carolina. But even though he's not staying home, Davis Jr. should certainly have the Carolinas behind him for the next chapter of his journey. Follow @ThePanthersWire on Twitter/X for more Panthers content.

4-star LB, son of Georgia All-American announces critical recruiting update
The son of a former Georgia Bulldog is forging his own path in college football. Four-star Notre Dame Fighting Irish linebacker commit Thomas Davis Jr., son of former Georgia All-American safety Thomas Davis Sr., shut down his recruitment with other schools. He committed to the Fighting Irish on Nov. 12, 2024 and appears to be sticking with his decision. Davis Jr. is a four-star linebacker from the class of 2026. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound LB currently plays high school football, basketball, and track and field for Weddington High School in Matthews, North Carolina. Advertisement He visited Georgia football on the weekend of May 31. With that visit, people started to speculate Davis Jr. as a flip target. Georgia's history of developing linebackers (nine linebackers selected over the past five NFL drafts) and his family ties to the school made it look like Davis Jr. could be following his father's footsteps. Instead, Davis Jr. will stay with the school he committed to in 2024. Less than three months after he committed to Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish knocked the Georgia Bulldogs out of the College Football Playoff with a 23-10 win in the Sugar Bowl. Davis Jr. has the talent to create a legacy outside of his father's. He is the No. 11 linebacker and No. 176 prospect in the class of 2026. The Georgia Bulldogs are still looking for their first recruit for the linebacker class. However, the linebacker core currently has no high-level seniors, with juniors CJ Allen, Raylen Wilson, and Army transfer Elo Modozie expected to start. Former five-star recruits Chris Cole and Justin Williams are expected to see increased playing time in their sophomore years. The legacy of Thomas Davis Sr. Former Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis Davis Jr.'s father, Thomas Davis Sr., was a linebacker and safety for Georgia from 2002-04 under former head coach Mark Richt. In 2004, he earned a unanimous first-team All-SEC selection and an All-American selection. As a result, he skipped his senior season to declare for the 2005 NFL draft, where the Carolina Panthers selected him with the 13th pick in the first-round. Advertisement Davis Sr. played 13 years with the Panthers, racking up three All-Pros and a first-team All-Pro selection in 2015, the same year he helped his Panthers make the Super Bowl. He still leads the franchise in career solo tackles (789) and defensive fumble recoveries (11), along with ranking second among all Carolina Panthers in tackles for loss (87) and forced fumbles (18). Thomas Davis Jr. remains a solid commitment to Notre Dame
Thomas Davis Jr. remains a solid commitment to Notre Dame Thomas Davis Jr.'s commitment to Notre Dame remains solid. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound North Carolina outside linebacker returned to South Bend this past weekend for an official visit and was among a slew of top recruits as the Fighting Irish had arguably their biggest recruiting weekend of this offseason. The Class of 2026 Weddington (Matthews, NC) product will obviously always be linked to Georgia, his father's alma mater after he took an official visit to Athens earlier this month. But he made sure to recruit the uncommitted players that were in South Bend over the weekend, including having in-depth conversations with wide receivers Devin Fitzgerald and Kaydon Finley. Like Davis Jr., both have fathers who had NFL careers. That's a great sign for Marcus Freeman and his staff. Davis Jr. committed to ND three days after he visited the Irish during their 52-3 win over Florida State last fall.
