Sarawak and Sabah gears up for its annual festivals with mega parties and the grand success of 'Kosert Meletop TVS'

KUCHING: With the theme ' Nang Champiyen, Nang Legend ', the city of Miri lit up in a night of glitz and glamour as the Konsert MeleTOP TVS rocked the Miri Indoor Stadium with thousands of fans and top Malaysian stars including Dayang Nurfaizah, Stacy, Mimifly, Dolla, and many more. Making it even more special, this marked the first time the MeleTOP mega concert ventured beyond the Klang Valley, with Miri being the debut location in Borneo. Brought to you by two of the nation's entertainment giants, Astro and TVS, the two-hour concert was a lively celebration broadcast live on TVS (Channel 122 on Astro, MYTV, Unifi TV), Astro Ria, Astro GO and Sooka. The event was also graced by the presence of the Mayor of Miri, Adam Yii Siew Sang. The evening kicked off with a beautiful cultural and musical fusion performance by Sada Borneo and Dion Das, followed by an electrifying set from powerhouses Mimifly and Stacy, who lit up the stage with tracks like 'Abracadabra', 'Menyala' and 'Angkat.' Rising young star Wani Kayrie captivated the crowd alongside Noki, setting the stage ablaze with 'Original Sabahan' and 'Not Like Us', igniting Borneo pride on home soil. A major highlight of the night was the presentation of the 'Anugerah Khas Borneo MeleTOP' to Sarawak's beloved songstress Dayang Nurfaizah, awarded by TVS Chairperson, Dato' Norhyati Ismail and Acting CEO of TVS, En. Mohamad Sardon Zainal. The award stands as TVS' highest recognition of a Sarawak-born talent who has proudly carried the name of the state and Borneo into the national music spotlight. Dayang continued her special night with a heartfelt solo performance of 'Seandainya Masih Ada Cinta', and brought the house down with a soul-stirring duet of 'Haram' with Hael Husaini — it was a truly unforgettable collaboration. Also making special appearances were Hairee Francis, Marsha Milan and Nadeera Zaini — the golden-voiced singer currently making waves after her stellar success at AJL39. The evening reached one of its musical highlights with a high-energy finale from Dolla, who had the audience on their feet with a glamorous and dynamic performance. Keeping the crowd engaged from start to finish were popular MeleTOP hosts Nabil Ahmad, Hawa Rizwana and Sherry Alhadad, joined by TVS hosts Cheryl Toh, Fattah Bolh and Ghaz Zawawi, ensuring every moment was filled with excitement and joy. MIRI (May 19): The 'Konsert MeleTOP TVS' lit up the Miri Indoor Stadium on Saturday night with a vibrant showcase of music and culture, drawing a crowd of over 2,000 eager fans. The concert marked the inaugural collaboration between Astro's MeleTOP and TVS (TV Sarawak) and was held for the first time in Sarawak. Themed 'Nang Champiyen, Nang Lagend' (Truly Champions, Truly Legends), the show delivered a show-stopping mix of performances that celebrate Bornean artistry while uniting talents from across the country. The concert was hosted by a dynamic lineup comprising Nabil Ahmad, Sherry Alhadad, Cheryl Toh, Fattah Bohl and Ghaz Zawaiwi, and their lively banter kept the energy high between performances. According to TVS acting chief executive officer Mohamad Sardon Zainal, the concert served to introduce TVS Channel 122 to a wider national audience and highlight homegrown talent from across Malaysia. 'TVS is committed to continuously uplifting local artistes, and this concert has become an important platform towards that goal,' he told the media after the show. Floor 88 puts on a fiery performance during the Konsert MeleTOP TVS. He also announced that Sarawak's own Dayang Nurfaizah was honoured with the 'Anugerah Khas Borneo' in recognition of her two decade-long contribution to the local music industry. 'This award is a symbol of our ongoing support for Bornean talents who have brought pride to the state on the national stage.' Explaining the choice of Miri as the host city, Sardon noted its strategic location in northern Sarawak. 'This is the first time a large-scale concert like this has been held in Miri, and the enthusiastic response proves there's great potential for organising major entertainment events outside of the capital cities,' he stated. He added that the concert's success opens doors for future solo concerts and bigger plans for the local creative scene. 'This concert is not just a milestone, but the beginning of a broader effort to strengthen the local entertainment ecosystem. We are also planning another major concert in Kuching this October to mark TVS's fifth anniversary,' he said. The hosts, together with singer Noki, hype up the show. A stellar lineup of artistes dazzled the concert, including Sada Borneo, Mimy Fly, Stacy, Wani Kayrie, Noki, Hairee Francis, Hael Husaini, Nadeera, Dayang Nurfaizah, Marsha Milan, Dolla, and Floor 88. Ernie Zakri is working on a collaborative album, "Sahabat"

5 May - Ernie Zakri recently revealed that she will soon be releasing another album, which will see her collaborating with friends from Malaysia and Indonesia. The singer, who spoke about the album titled "Sahabat", said that it will contain eight duet songs that she will be recording with her friends, including Dayang Nurfaizah and Ade Govinda. "This album is a collaboration between friends from two countries. In Malaysia, many people already know that I will be collaborating with Dayang Nurfaizah and Amir Masdi. In Indonesia too, I will collaborate with Anggi Marito, Rony Parulian, Andi Rianto and Ade Govinda. There are several other names, but this is still in the planning stage," she said. Ernie said that she has recorded four songs so far, with the other four currently being prepared. It is noted that Ernie has already collaborated with Indonesia's Ade Govinda through the hit songs, "Hal Hebat" and "Masing Masing". "Actually, because of the collaboration with Ade, I had a way and opportunity in Indonesia. I thought, why not make an album instead of just duet singles. I am collaborating with Universal Music Indonesia as well for the project," she said. It is noted that "Masing Masing" was previously recognised by the Malaysian Recording Industry Association (RIM) as the record holder for the longest-lasting number one song on RIM's domestic charts in 2024. Gua Musang students feast on burger reward

Compiled by MARTIN CARVALHO, AND R. ARAVINTHAN SPM achievers in Gua Musang, Kelantan, were feted with free burgers courtesy of Mohammad Fadli Mohammad Fendi, who owns a stall in the remote district. Utusan Malaysia reported that Mohamad Fadli, 37, wanted to reward the recent batch of SPM students and motivate future teens to do well by offering 200 burger meals worth RM6 to RM15. The meals were offered to 200 students from the 12 schools within the district who scored 3As and above in their exams. The initiative started with 50 burgers for the 2022 SPM batch before it expanded to 100 in 2023 and 200 in 2024. Mohammad Fadli said the gesture was also a way of sharing his God-given fortune with others, particularly the young who made up most of his customers. To date, 37 sets of burgers have been claimed by eligible students here. One of them, Muhamad Aqid Syaqir Md Azau Fazlin, 18, who scored 9As in the SPM examinations, expressed gratitude for Mohammad Fadli's reward. > Although she has broken her silence on her love life, Berita Harian reported that singer Dayang Nurfaizah, 44, is still keeping mum on the identity of the handsome man she is dating. The singer, whose real name is Dayang Nurfaizah Awang Dowty, admitted that speculations of her relationship surfaced recently following her song Jodoh Di Hari Raya, which was released during Ramadan. 'I do not deny knowing someone, nor do I confirm or deny a possible marriage. 'It's a common cliche to hear about a suitor,' she said at a recent press conference. She said that she had left the matter to fate because she was currently enjoying her life. Previous rumours had linked Dayang Nurfaizah with another local singer who is already engaged, but this has been denied by the latter, who stated they were merely friends. On her career, Dayang Nurfaizah said she intends to return to her Sarawakian roots to record the song Bekikis Bulu Betis in Iban. #Showbiz: Dayang Nurfaizah admits to close relationship

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular singer Dayang Nurfaizah has acknowledged that she is currently involved in a close relationship, though she remains tight-lipped about any immediate plans for marriage. Quoting the 43-year-old songstress, Berita Harian reported today that Dayang said, "I don't deny that I'm now in the phase of getting to know this person." "But as for whether marriage is on the cards, I'm neither confirming nor denying anything at the moment," she added, responding to media queries about speculation surrounding her romantic involvement with an undisclosed individual. The report noted that while Dayang appeared somewhat reticent when addressing the personal questions from the press, her expressions conveyed a sense of joy and contentment. "It may sound cliché, but I'm leaving this matter (of marriage) in God's hands. I hope everyone will pray for the best for me," Dayang said. "Perhaps people assumed that something was already in the works because of my recent Raya song, 'Jodoh Di Hari Raya'," she said. Dayang is scheduled to perform at Konsert MeleTOP TVS, which will be held at the Miri Indoor Stadium in Sarawak on May 17.
