Reckless driver with past criminal records arrested

TAWAU: A man believed to have been driving recklessly and flashing an obscene gesture at other road users, recently, at the Jalan Kubota Batu 3 Jalan Apas junction here, was arrested last Saturday. Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin said the 32-year-old suspect was detained at around 2.50pm by a team from the District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) in front of a lodging house in Tawau town. 'The incident was reported to have occurred last Wednesday when the victim, a female technician driving a Perodua Ativa along Jalan Apas, was startled by a Perodua Myvi that shot out from a junction recklessly,' he said on Sunday. Jasmin said the situation forced the victim to slam on her brakes and honk as a warning. However, the suspect then exited his vehicle. According to him, the suspect made an obscene gesture and even issued verbal challenges to fight, leaving the victim distressed and frightened which led her to lodge a report. 'Police investigations revealed that the suspect has six prior criminal records involving offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act, including under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a), recorded in Papar, Kuala Lumpur, and Tawau,' he said. Jasmin added that the case is now being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for driving recklessly and endangering other road users. He also advised the public to always obey traffic laws and keep their emotions in check when faced with tense situations on the road. 'Any aggressive act or threat toward other road users not only endangers safety but may also lead to legal action. Housewife is arrested for threatening hairdresser

She was believed to have made the threat via a social media messaging application. Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 38-year-old local was detained at Kampung Hidayat Batu 4, Jalan Apas, here, at 2.45pm on Friday. 'A hairdresser lodged a complaint on Jan 3, last year, claiming she received a threatening message via WhatsApp,' he said, Saturday. Jasmin said the arrest was made by a team from the District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) in front of an unnumbered house, where a mobile phone was also confiscated. According to the police report, the suspect had allegedly sent a message stating, 'Di mana-mana aku jumpa binimu, aku kasi pecah kepalanya (Wherever I see your wife, I'll smash her head).' 'The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation through online communication, which carries a sentence of up to two years in prison upon conviction,' said Jasmin. In a separate case, police arrested a local youth suspected of trespassing into a home and attempting to assault a woman in her rented room in town last Sunday. Jasmin said the 20-year-old suspect was apprehended by the Strike Team from Tawau Police Station at 10.15pm on Thursday at a car park in the town area. The arrest followed a police report lodged by the alleged victim, a 25-year-old female tenant who was traumatised and concerned for her safety. 'According to the complainant, the incident occurred while she was asleep in her room when the suspect allegedly broke in, covered her mouth and attempted to rob her. 'She was startled by the suspect's actions and immediately woke up, screamed and struggled, managing to push the door open, which caused the suspect to be thrown out of the room,' he said. Initial investigations revealed that the victim did not suffer any losses or have any valuables stolen, as her swift reaction thwarted the suspect's intentions. Jasmin added that police reviewed CCTV footage and carried out intelligence work, which led to the suspect's arrest. A cap, sling bag and a pair of slippers believed to have been used by the suspect were also seized. Key witness identified in Bersatu Armada exco death threat case
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have identified a key witness in the investigation into a death threat case involving a company director who is also Bersatu Youth (Armada) exco. Dang Wangi police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said investigations found that the victim did not know the suspect who allegedly threatened to kill him. He said two witnesses have been called so far, and their statements recorded to assist in the investigation. 'Police have also identified a key witness in this case, who will be called in to have a statement recorded. We believe this witness could provide crucial information in identifying those involved and shedding light on the motive behind the threats made against the complainant,' he said in a statement today. However, he said, so far, no arrests have been made against any individuals in connection with the case. He said police are actively working to identify the suspect and are investigating the case from all possible angles, while also prioritising the safety of the complainant. 'The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication,' he added. 'The public with any relevant information is urged to contact investigating officer Insp Pang Wei Keong at 013-208 2391 or the head of the District Criminal Investigation Division DSP Rosdi M. Husin at 013-392 0694,' he said. Earlier, media reported that Armada exco Na'im Brundage claimed he had received death threats, including threats of being splashed with acid by unknown individuals.
