"Kuwait has strong position on terrorism," says former FS Harsh Shringla after delegation visit to Gulf Nation

Kuwait City [Kuwait], May 27 (ANI): Former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, part of India's multi-party delegation to Kuwait, described the group's engagements as wide-ranging and impactful. Speaking about the visit, he said, 'The delegation has had 1.5 days of very comprehensive engagement with Kuwait... We had an informal sitting, called Diwaniya, with some of the most influential and prominent members of the Kuwaiti society and polity... We had great interaction with the members of the Indian community... The visit enabled the delegation members to highlight our fight against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.' 'Kuwait had very strongly condemned the attack in Pahalgam. Kuwait has a very strong position when it comes to terrorism. India and Kuwait also have a joint working group on Security and counter-terrorism... Kuwait is also an influential member of the Gulf Cooperation on Terrorist Financing, and it also has significant financial and economic leverage on Pakistan. The fact that any acts of terrorism would lead to a strong response from India and therefore, will have an impact on the region and beyond is something that Kuwaiti interlocutors have internalised and taken note of,' he continued. Earlier, the delegation met members of the Indian diaspora in Kuwait, using the opportunity to share India's united message against terrorism and underline the importance of international awareness. The session was met with strong support from community members. One said, 'The presentation given by the Indian delegation was very concise and precise, and the message was very clear, even if we need to go to war for peace, we will do it.' Another diaspora member condemned the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, saying, 'It (Pahalgam terror attack) was a heinous crime committed against humanity. India has zero tolerance towards terrorism... the things the delegation said to us and the clarity they gave... we would be the ambassadors to carry it forward to the world.' BJP MP Baijayant Panda, leading the delegation, reinforced India's strong position and outreach. 'The meetings in Kuwait have been outstanding. We met the Deputy PM and many other stakeholders. This is a country with which India has had a relationship for centuries. In recent years, PM Modi's efforts at building relationships around the world has also led to tremendous results here in the Middle East and Gulf countries. When PM Modi visited here, Kuwait gave him its highest civilian honour,' he said. The all-party delegation includes BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey, Phangnon Konyak, Rekha Sharma, Satnam Singh Sandhu, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, and former diplomat Harsh Shringla. The visit is part of a wider diplomatic effort following Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. As part of its military response, Indian forces struck terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The Modi government's diplomatic campaign has deployed seven multi-party delegations to reinforce India's zero-tolerance approach to terrorism globally. (ANI)

British Embassy marks Women's Day, launches Women's Diwaniya

KUWAIT: The British Embassy hosted its inaugural 'Women's Diwaniya' on Sunday, May 18, bringing together female leaders from many different sectors to mark Kuwaiti Women's Day on Friday, May 16. This new initiative - which is set to run on a quarterly basis, reflects the Embassy's ongoing commitment to strengthening partnerships with female leaders and creating dedicated spaces where they can network and discuss key issues. The decision to launch a Women's Diwaniya follows the success of the Women in Business-themed Ghabga the Embassy hosted during Ramadan - and builds on broader efforts to support and empower women and girls through initiatives such as its 'Future Female Leaders in Sport' program, run in collaboration with the UK's 'Safeguarding Alliance' and Kuwait's Public Authority for Sport. Speaking at the event, Belinda Lewis, British Ambassador to Kuwait, said: 'Kuwaiti Women's Day offers a moment to celebrate the incredible achievements of women here, both past and present, and to inspire the next generation of female leaders. It is also a chance to reflect on the shared and different challenges faced by women across the world, the progress made and barriers still to be dismantled. I am proud that the British Embassy team has hosted this evening's Women's Diwaniya, where female leaders from many different sectors can connect, collaborate and support one another.'

Japan and Kuwait deepen business ties through strategic Diwaniya gathering

KUWAIT CITY, May 19: Japanese Ambassador to Kuwait Mukai Kenichiro organized the 'Japanese-Kuwaiti Business Diwaniya' at his residence, with Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Samih Jawhar Hayat, a group of Kuwaiti businesspersons, and representatives of the public and private sectors in attendance. The meeting aimed to strengthen the economic and technological partnerships between Kuwait and Japan and expand the horizons of cooperation in various fields. Mukai expressed his pride and gratitude for the presence of the guests, stressing that the Diwaniya is a strategic opportunity to revive the Japanese-Kuwaiti Business Committee at the governmental level and exchange views on the future of trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. He pointed out that the current phase is a turning point in economic relations between the two countries, calling for strengthening cooperation in sustainable development, social responsibility, and the green economy. He affirmed that Japan is one of the largest global investment markets, with capital investments reaching approximately $700 billion in 2023. He urged the Kuwaiti businesspersons to explore the available opportunities, particularly through the Kansai-Osaka Expo, which was launched in April and will continue for six months. He revealed the Expo showcases advanced Japanese technologies, such as room-temperature hydrogen production devices, carbon dioxide capture and emission technologies, and industrial fuel production. He said these technologies are plausible solutions for the realization of Kuwait's goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. He also cited the perovskite solar cells developed by Panasonic, which can be installed on windows and are currently used in Toyota cars that charge while driving, making them ideally suited to the sunny environment in Kuwait. In the healthcare sector, he highlighted the regenerative medicine technologies using IPS cells, which offer advanced therapeutic capabilities, calling for investment in them and their use within the healthcare system in Kuwait. He also talked about the contributions of major Japanese companies, such as Mitsubishi, Toshiba and JERA, to infrastructure and energy projects in Kuwait. He asserted that these projects are not merely commercial activities, as they are rather contributions to improving the quality of life. He was quick to add that these companies are facing challenges, such as the slow bidding process, delayed procedures, and lack of focus on reducing emissions. He revealed the Japanese government is engaged in a serious dialogue with the Kuwaiti side to address these challenges, calling on decision-makers to support these efforts to improve the joint business environment. He affirmed the embassy's readiness to provide all forms of support to Kuwaiti businesspersons, wishing to introduce Japanese products and technologies to the local market. He is hoping that Kuwait will become a regional center for adopting Japanese innovations and exporting them to the Gulf states, especially Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). On the other hand, Mubarak Al-Sayer, Executive Board Member of Al-Sayer Group, presented the history of the long-standing partnership with Japan, dating back to 1954, when the group became the first distributor of Toyota vehicles in the Middle East, thanks to his late father, Nasser Mohammed Al-Sayer. Al-Sayer explained that this relationship has evolved into a strategic partnership spanning more than seven decades, making Al-Sayer Group the largest importer of Japanese goods in Kuwait, including major brands like Toyota, Lexus, Hino, Hitachi, Kawasaki, Yokohama, Akai, Sakai, JCB, and Canon. He asked the Japanese government to facilitate entry for Kuwaitis by granting visas upon arrival, stressing that the Kuwaiti people's passion for Japan is growing in the fields of education, entertainment, and commerce. He affirmed Al-Sayer Group's commitment to continuing its longstanding partnership with Japan for future generations, stating that 'this partnership is not only a legacy we cherish, but a future we are working hard to consolidate.
