"Kuwait has strong position on terrorism," says former FS Harsh Shringla after delegation visit to Gulf Nation

India Gazette27-05-2025
Kuwait City [Kuwait], May 27 (ANI): Former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, part of India's multi-party delegation to Kuwait, described the group's engagements as wide-ranging and impactful.
Speaking about the visit, he said, 'The delegation has had 1.5 days of very comprehensive engagement with Kuwait... We had an informal sitting, called Diwaniya, with some of the most influential and prominent members of the Kuwaiti society and polity... We had great interaction with the members of the Indian community... The visit enabled the delegation members to highlight our fight against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.'
'Kuwait had very strongly condemned the attack in Pahalgam. Kuwait has a very strong position when it comes to terrorism. India and Kuwait also have a joint working group on Security and counter-terrorism... Kuwait is also an influential member of the Gulf Cooperation on Terrorist Financing, and it also has significant financial and economic leverage on Pakistan. The fact that any acts of terrorism would lead to a strong response from India and therefore, will have an impact on the region and beyond is something that Kuwaiti interlocutors have internalised and taken note of,' he continued.
Earlier, the delegation met members of the Indian diaspora in Kuwait, using the opportunity to share India's united message against terrorism and underline the importance of international awareness. The session was met with strong support from community members.
One said, 'The presentation given by the Indian delegation was very concise and precise, and the message was very clear, even if we need to go to war for peace, we will do it.'
Another diaspora member condemned the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, saying, 'It (Pahalgam terror attack) was a heinous crime committed against humanity. India has zero tolerance towards terrorism... the things the delegation said to us and the clarity they gave... we would be the ambassadors to carry it forward to the world.'
BJP MP Baijayant Panda, leading the delegation, reinforced India's strong position and outreach. 'The meetings in Kuwait have been outstanding. We met the Deputy PM and many other stakeholders. This is a country with which India has had a relationship for centuries. In recent years, PM Modi's efforts at building relationships around the world has also led to tremendous results here in the Middle East and Gulf countries. When PM Modi visited here, Kuwait gave him its highest civilian honour,' he said.
The all-party delegation includes BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey, Phangnon Konyak, Rekha Sharma, Satnam Singh Sandhu, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, and former diplomat Harsh Shringla.
The visit is part of a wider diplomatic effort following Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. As part of its military response, Indian forces struck terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The Modi government's diplomatic campaign has deployed seven multi-party delegations to reinforce India's zero-tolerance approach to terrorism globally. (ANI)

Urea shortage due to Congress govt's mismanagement, charges Ramchander Rao

Hyderabad: Telangana state BJP President N Ramchander Rao on Wednesday alleged that mismanagement of the Congress government in supplying urea to farmers is leading to artificial shortage in the state. Addressing a press conference at state office here, Ramchander Rao accused Revanth Reddy government of creating panic in the minds of farmers by spreading false information that Centre has not supplied sufficient urea to the state. Rao alleged that the state government has failed to present facts before the farmers and resorting to blaming Modi government to derive political mileage. False information and mismanagement by the state government is leading to hoarding of excessive stock by the farmers, he accused. He alleged that Congress party is 'mother of all lies' and its state government also distorting 'facts as lies'. Giving details of urea supplied by the central government the state BJP chief posted a challenge to Agriculture minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao for a debate on supply of urea. Rao said 'I will resign from my post if my figures proved wrong or you should resign'. Vehemently denying allegations of state Congress government on supply of Urea, the state BJP chief presented data of requirement, supply, stock and distribution stating that Modi government has supplied surplus urea to Telangana against its requirement. The Centre has supplied 12.47 Lakh Metric Tons (LMT) during Rabi season 2024-2025 as against requirement of state government of 9.87 LMT. He further stated that the state government has sold only 10.43 LMT and it has 2.04 LMT as opening stock till March, 2025 which is not showing in its representation. For Kharif season (from April 25 to September 25), the state government has buffer stock of 7.22 LMT. The Centre has supplied 8.30 LMT out of 9.80 LMT requirement of the state government till Wednesday, Rao said. Modi government being a farmer-friendly government has provided Rs 1.40 lakh crore subsidy on fertilisers to help farmers and increase productivity, Rao said. There was some discrepancies in production of fertiliser due to technical issues in Ramagundam fertilise plant other places and technical snag has been resolved, he said adding that an additional of 50,000 metric tons of urea will reach Telangana very soon, Rao said. The BJP chief questioned Tummala why Khammam district need additional stocks of urea this time as last year it had consumed 3,200 MT. Replying to a question, Rao asked why Congress party has not announced a BC leader as Vice President candidate when it is really in favour of BCs welfare. He alleged that the Congress party has no sincerity to provide reservations to Backward Classes as it wanted to use them a vote bank.

Cong MLA demands amendments to FCA for rehabilitation of disaster-hit people

Congress's Lahaul and Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana on Wednesday demanded amendments to the Forest Conservation Act (FCA) and the Centre's relief manual. Participating in the ongoing discussion on natural disasters through an Adjournment Motion under Rule 67, Rana said even Lahaul and Spiti, a cold desert, had been witnessing heavy rainfall and extreme weather events such as cloudbursts and floods, and emphasised the need to amend the FCA and the relief manual to provide meaningful assistance to disaster-affected people. 'Due to the FCA, the rehabilitation of disaster-hit people has become extremely difficult. Moreover, people receive only a meagre amount for massive losses of land and property as per the existing relief manual. It needs urgent amendment,' she said. Questioning the state's development model, Rana said four-lane highway construction should follow scientific methods, and the unchecked setting up of large numbers of power projects should be reviewed. BJP MLA demands repairing of damaged road in Paonta Sahib Participating in the debate, BJP Paonta Sahib MLA Sukhram Chaudhary highlighted the poor condition of several roads under the PWD in his constituency, which were severely damaged in the recent flash floods. 'My constituency did not suffer as much damage as areas like Seraj and Karsog in Mandi, but there is a serious need to reflect on these calamities,' he said. 'I also want to highlight the damage to an important road connecting Paonta Sahib with the Sotone area. This road is crucial as it contributes revenue of around Rs 100 crore to the state exchequer. The state government should repair it under the ambit of disaster management.' Chaudhary further pointed out that several areas affected by the 2023 and 2024 natural disasters in his constituency are yet to receive full financial assistance.
