Finland mistakenly call up 51-year-old for international duty

Finland women's national team manager has apologised for mistakenly calling up a long-retired 51-year-old for this week's game against Serbia. When submitting the lineup, manager Outi Saarinen mistakenly entered former player Stina Ruuskanen instead of 23-year-old Djurgarden defender Nanne Ruuskanen. The error was not discovered until past deadline. Ruuskanen, who received her call-up 29 years after playing two senior internationals for Finland, took the mix-up in good humour. "I'm definitely ready if the call comes! Just yesterday I was playing in a hobby league match ... so my game feel is good," she told the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat. The younger Ruuskanen, who is no relation, was unable to take part in the Nations League match, a 1-1 draw in Helsinki on Tuesday. "Nanne was, of course, disappointed but took the news very well considering the circumstances," Saarinen said in a statement from the Finnish Football Association. "I am very sorry for the mistake." However, they'll have to overcome a remarkable record to do so - with the last 27 finals across the World Cup, European Championship, Champions League and Europa League/UEFA Cup to feature a Spanish team having had a Spanish winner. Here we talk you through how you can watch the match... ‌ What time does the Conference League final kick off? Maresca has already confirmed that Filip Jorgensen will replace Robert Sanchez in goal for Chelsea, having played all but one of the games in this competition so far. Following the tight turnaround from the final day of the Premier League on Sunday, Trevoh Chalobah could come back into the defence - while Malo Gusto could replace Reece James at right-back given Maresca has been cautious with the club captain's workload. Fallenius is currently recovering from a foot injury sustained against Rapid Vienna in the Europa Conference League in mid-April. The club's doctor Kalle Barrling said he would be out for the Spring at the time. As yet no bids have yet been made but both clubs are said to be considering an offer if the price is right, according to Swedish outlet FotbolDirekt. The attacking right winger joined Djurgarden from Brondby in 2023 for a deal believed to be around 2 million Swedish kronor (£155,000), with the Danish outfit also having a 15 per cent sell on clause. He was an unused substitute against Rangers in the Ibrox club's 2-0 win over Brondby in the Europa League in October 2021. The Sweden under 20's current contract expires at the end of 2026. Djurgarden enjoyed an impressive run in Europe this season, reaching the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League. And some of their players are attracting interest from several top European clubs. The Stockholm side knocked out Rapid Vienna and Pafos, but Chelsea proved too strong in the last four of the competition. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has STRONGER transfer case after final defeat Fallenius scored against the Cypriots in the round of 16 clash, but did not feature against the Premier League outfit after picking up the injury against Austria Vienna in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Celtic are also reportedly interested in Djurgarden's Japanese full-back Keita Kosugi, as out-of-contract Greg Taylor edges closer to the Parkhead exit. Greek side PAOK are keen on signing Taylor after he failed to agree a new deal, and 19-year-old Kosugi could be seen as an ideal back-up for Kieran Tierney. Daizen Maeda, who has had a stunning season for Celtic, is being pursued by Fenerbache. The Japanese star scored 33 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, and now is being monitored by Jose Mourinho if reports in Turkey are to be believed. Another player also attracting interest from a Super Lig side is former Rangers loanee Vaclav Cerny. He is seemingly heading out the door at Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in a deal worth around £9million to join Trabzonspor. European semi-finalist 'target' for Celtic & Rangers

The winger plies his trade for Swedish top-flight side Djurgarden. He scored once in seven appearances as his side reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League this season, only to be knocked out by Premier League giants Chelsea. Read more: Fallenius is a target for Glasgow's big two, claims who say that both clubs have recently sent scouts to watch him. No bid has been made from either team as of yet. The 23-year-old has scored seven goals and assisted nine in 78 competitive appearances for Djurgarden. He is contracted with the Stockholm club until 2026. The reported interest comes not long after the 2024/25 season has come to an end in Scotland. Celtic won the Premiership title but faltered in winning a treble after losing the Scottish Cup final on penalties to Aberdeen. Rangers finished the campaign trophyless after sacking Philippe Clement in February. They remain on the hunt for a permanent manager, with names such as Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin linked to the vacant Ibrox hotseat.

Celtic ‘set to battle PSG and Atalanta for Japanese wonderkid' as Brendan Rodgers adds versatile left-back to shortlist

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CELTIC are lining up a sensational swoop for another rising Japanese star, according to a report. Brendan Rodgers already has Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate in his squad but there used to be a Japanese quintet at Parkhead, with Kyogo Furuhashi, Tomoki Iwata and Yuki Kobayashi all leaving in recent months. 2 The five Japanese players at Celtic in 2023 Credit: Kenny Ramsay 2 The latest Japanese star believed to be on the Hoops' radar Credit: Getty But the Hoops boss could add another to his ranks as he's reportedly chasing a talented left-back. The left-back position is a concern for Rodgers in this upcoming transfer window despite the return of fan favourite Kieran Tierney. Greg Taylor is out of contract and Jeffrey Schlupp is set to leave the club following the end of his loan spell. But reports from Japan suggest Celtic have already got another replacement lined up. Sponichi claim the Scottish champions are interested in signing Djurgarden wonderkid Keita Kosugi. Kosugi, 19, moved to Europe just days after his 18th birthday following a successful trial with the Swedish outfit and he has impressed in the first team since. The teenager has played 29 games already this season - 11 of which came in the Europa Conference League. Djurgarden reached the semi-final of the competition before they were knocked out by Chelsea, with Kosugi playing in both legs. He showcased his versatility against the Premier League club as he was deployed at left-back on the first leg and on the right side for the return fixture. He also scored against Vikingur and Rapid Vienna earlier in the campaign. Celtic fans would never let their club die says Hoops hero Peter Grant The report states that while Celtic are interested, they could face a 'fierce battle' for the highly-rated defender's signature. It's stated Atalanta and PSG are both interested in Kosugi as well. And it's suggested the Champions League finalists are the favourites to sign him in the coming months. Meanwhile, Celtic are braced for big money offers for star man Daizen Maeda - with Jose Mourinho eyeing a summer swoop. Rodgers fears losing the Japanese attacker after his stunning season. And confirmed reports in Turkey have revealed the Fenerbahce boss has targeted Maeda, 27, after his 33-goal haul.
