Prove your Oasis ability at Wonderwall World Championships in Edinburgh and win a wall of beer

Courtesy of Innis & Gunn, you could win a 6ft wall of beer if you win the first ever Wonderwall World Championships. Oasis fans will have the chance to step into the spotlight and belt out one of Britpop's most iconic anthems as the first-ever Wonderwall World Championships lands in Edinburgh. ‌ The one-day singing competition will take place tomorrow, Saturday, August 9, at Stockbridge Social, a new outdoor food and drink market in the city, powered by Innis & Gunn. The event is timed perfectly for the afternoon before Oasis take the stage for their second night at Murrayfield. ‌ The inaugural event gives gig-goers a chance to warm up their vocals ahead of the Murrayfield concert with a live rendition of Wonderwall. With over 2.4billion streams on Spotify and a permanent spot on karaoke charts worldwide, Wonderwall remains one of the most recognisable tracks in British music. ‌ Now, fans will be able to test their vocal chops in front of a live audience, with the chance to win a fittingly boozy prize. Hosted by broadcaster Craig Telfer, known for fronting Scottish football show A View from the Terrace, the competition will be judged by a panel of self-declared Wonderwall experts. The winning performance will be awarded a 'Wonderwall' of Innis & Gunn beer, a six-foot display of the brewery's award-winning Scottish lager. ‌ Every brave performer will also receive a pint of Innis & Gunn lager just for getting up and giving it a go. The event is being staged in honour of Oasis' long-awaited return to the capital. The Gallagher brothers are reuniting for three sold-out shows at Murrayfield Stadium on August 8, 9, and 12, their first performances in Scotland since 2009. ‌ Innis & Gunn are encouraging fans to come along and give their best version of the song that has been a staple of pub singalongs, student flats and festival fields since it first hit the charts in 1995. Entry is free and open to anyone on the day. 'Like Oasis, we have never been afraid to do things our own way,' said Dougal Sharp, Founder and Master Brewer at Innis & Gunn. ‌ "Wonderwall has cemented itself into British culture and everybody knows it. And after all, as soon as those opening chords ring out, you know it's going to be a good time. 'With the Gallaghers coming to Edinburgh, we thought it was the perfect time to let people have their own moment in the spotlight. Grab a pint, grab the mic and show us your Wonderwall .' The contest will be held at Stockbridge Social, a new venture from Innis & Gunn located at the Edinburgh Academicals sports ground. ‌ The market offers an eclectic mix of food and drink, including Cromars, previously voted East Scotland's best fish and chips, steak frites from Flame to Fork, and cult pizza favourites Wanderers Kneaded. Alongside Innis & Gunn's full beer range, drinks on offer will include locally produced Edinburgh Gin and Lost Orchards cider, made from apples grown in Scottish orchards that are being brought back to life. Stockbridge Social adds to Innis & Gunn's growing presence in the capital, joining their existing location on the Mound. The Wonderwall World Championships kicks off from 1pm on Saturday, August 9, with free entry for all Oasis fans and brave karaoke hopefuls alike.

We missed out on an official 'heatwave' today as the mercury failed to hit 25C for the third day in a row HOT STUFF Exact date Scotland to be hotter than Tenerife as country basks in 24C sunshine Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SCOTLAND will be drier and hotter than Tenerife this week. The sensational spring sunshine which has blessed us for weeks shows no sign of letting up, with the West of Scotland expected to enjoy the UK's highest temperatures tomorrow. By Sunday, when the popular Spanish resort is down to just 18C and rain, Scotland's biggest city will shimmer under a sunny 22C. A Scots brewer reckons it's time the country's workers were dispatched to the beer garden if, as looks likely, the mercury goes above 20C tomorrow. Beer specialists Innis & Gunn have launched the '3PM Pledge' – a sunshine-soaked initiative urging employers to let their hard-grafting teams down tools at 3pm tomorrow, crack open a cold one, and soak up Scotland's rarest natural wonder – the sun. And to sweeten the deal, the Edinburgh-based brewers are offering a share of 500 free beers to the first 20 firms who promise to get involved. Dougal Sharp, Innis & Gunn's master brewer, said: 'Let's face it – when the sun shines in Scotland, it's like one of life's miracles. Nobody wants to be stuck at their desk while the rest of the country basks in the beer garden. 'When the sun comes out it's like the World Cup Final for pubs and people alike – and we want companies to back it. The 3PM Pledge is all about spontaneity, sunshine and celebrating life's little wins. 'Obviously, not every job can just down tools, but where it's possible, we're encouraging businesses to let their hardworking teams take a breather. 'If the work can be done at any time, why not save it for later and let people enjoy the sunshine?' As we approach the end of spring, UV levels are now officially described as 'high' which means people exposed to the sun without protection will burn within minutes. Brit hols hotspot Majorca beaches turned white with ice deluged by rain & hail leaving… and MORE bad weather on way Today, Scotland missed out on an official 'heatwave' as the mercury failed to hit 25C for the third day in a row. However, it was still a pleasant 22C at Achnagart in the sunny west Highlands yesterday. With a scorching weekend ahead for some, the Met Office said the east of the country may struggle with significantly lower temperatures than the west. As far as tomorrow is concerned, forecaster Alex Deakin said: "For the vast majority, it is a day of sparkling spring sunshine. "Temperatures, though, perhaps not quite as high across the south. "I think the West of Scotland may see the highest temperatures on Thursday. "22C or maybe a 23C. Again, the east coast, particularly if it does stay murky, temperatures could struggle. "There will be quite a contrast between east and west. "That will continue to be a trend in the weather, even into the weekend."

It comes after Scotland officially entered 'heatwave' territory as sensational spring sunshine continues to bear down on the country. The Ayrshire community of Auchincruive cracked the 25C barrier for the second day in a row today. That means if the same temperature is reached tomorrow, the country will have officially recorded the first heatwave of 2025. Auchincruive wasn't the hottest spot yesterday, as Tyndrum in Perthshire notched a sweltering 25.5C. Parks and city centre benches were packed by office workers, keen to enjoy the endless rays which have been beaming down since the start of the month. Those lucky enough to be working from home staked out pavement cafes and restaurants from Aberdeen to Ayr.
