SMOC teams up with ISU to host Earth Day Festival

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College partnered with Indiana State University to hold an Earth Day Festival on Saturday. This is all in part of the 'We're all in this together partnership.' The White Violet Center of Eco-Justice from the Sisters of Providence, and the Indiana State University Office of Sustainability partnered together to host the event. The festival hosted many vendors, where eco-friendly products were sold, along with educational booths as well. 'Each year, we like to come together on Earth Day to just talk about how much we care for our planet,' said Tara Elmore, Program and Events Director for the Sisters of Providence. 'We hope that everybody works together and does the same. It does so much for us, and we don't have another planet that we can go to. We need to do our part in taking care of it.' The Indiana DNR Woods on Wheels and the Vigo County 4-H Alpaca and Llama Club, were a few of many local organizations that attended the event. The goal of the Earth Day Festival was to spread awareness and educate those on how to protect our planet. With the great weather this weekend, the festival was a great turn out overall. INDOT shares possible plans to popular intersection in Vigo County

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Tuesday evening, INDOT hosted a public information meeting for a proposed improvement plan in Vigo County. The proposed plan involves the intersection of U.S. 41 and Dixie Bee, also known as the access road to the Wabash Valley Dragway and Chick-Fil-A. The need for this project comes from an increase in opportunities for crashes, due to unrestricted turning and movements. There have been a total of 148 crashes between 2018 to 2024. Earth Day Festival to be held at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods The improvements will involve construction of a slotted left turn lane along northbound U.S. 41. This will restrict crossing movements between Dixie Bee and Towne South Plaza, restrict left turns from Dixie Bee onto northbound U.S. 41, and left turns from southbound U.S. 41 to Towne South Plaza. 'So, what that would do is it would reduce the intersection to 48 potential conflict points down to 8. Enhancing the safety and making it a right out, right out only intersection at that point,' Public Relations Director with INDOT West Central Blake Dollier said. INDOT is proposing to start this project in 2026, but is subject to change. For those interested in commenting on this proposed project can do so by visiting INDOT's website. Savannah Tree Foundation's ‘Green Week' underway

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Savannah Tree Foundation (STF) is hosting several events this week to mark Earth Day and Arbor Day. Leigh Acevedo, interim executive director, said the events are designed to bring the community together in support of Savannah's urban canopy, all while raising funds to meet the goal of planting 10,000 trees by the year 2030. On Friday, April 25, STF will participate in the Earth Day Festival in Daffin Park. There, they will hold a ceremonial planting of their 6,000th tree, a 30-gallon live oak. Also on Friday, STF is hosting a three-hour guided tour through the cypress and tupelo forests with Savannah Canoe and Kayak. On Saturday, April 26, 'Jokes for Oaks' will take place at Front Porch Improv. And, on Sunday, April 27, STF will host 'Yoga Under the Candler Oak.' Click here for ticket information. Celebrate Easter, Earth Day and spring in Nashville

Spring is in full bloom in Nashville, and a warm and sunny weekend stretches out ahead of us. Several events are on tap as the city celebrates Easter, Earth Day and the start of the sunny season. 🐰 Eggstravaganzoo: The annual celebration Saturday at the Nashville Zoo will include staggered Easter egg hunts for different age groups, face painting and, of course, quality time with a menagerie of animals. Don't forget to bring a basket. 🎨 Great Spring Art Hop: Cheekwood's take on the classic Easter event will feature 48 egg hunts spread across Friday and Saturday. About 36,000 eggs filled with treats will be scattered around the botanical garden. The festivities will also include crafts, food trucks and live music. 🐀 Hunt for "Easter Rats": Yes, you read that correctly. The Hermitage is hosting scavenger hunts this weekend in Andrew Jackson's historic home. It's based on a family story about Jackson's granddaughter Rachel. "After a long day of dyeing eggs for a fun Easter egg hunt at her school, rats threatened to put a sour note on the festivities when they ate the eggs," The Hermitage reported. "The young (and young at heart) are invited to help us save Easter by finding the rats, who are hiding throughout the mansion." 🌎 Earth Day Festival: Head to Centennial Park Saturday to celebrate nature's bounty. The Nashville Tree Foundation will give out 1,250 free trees while supplies are available. (It might be worth showing up at 11am, when the event begins.) There will also be an electric vehicle car show, talks about home composting and gardening, and a free yoga class. 🍇 Music in the Vines: Sit and sip on a dry cabernet while enjoying jazz and bluegrass music and the breathtaking view of the sprawling 95-acre property at Arrington Vineyards.
