From The World of John Wick: Ballerina — the new spinoff in the beloved John Wick franchise — is already available on digital platforms after premiering in theaters in early June. Set during the events of 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows ballerina-turned-assassin Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) as she begins her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma. Eve must take on "an army of killers as she seeks revenge against those responsible for the death of her father,' per the synopsis. In addition to de Armas, Ballerina stars Gabriel Byrne and Norman Reedus, along with returning franchise favorites including Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston and Keanu Reeves as none other than John Wick. In an interview with MovieFone, Armas assured fans that if they like the John Wick movies, the spinoff is 'right down their alley.' She continued, 'It's a perfect addition and extension of the franchise and I think they're going to be really surprised and they're going to have a blast.' Armas also explained what it was like reuniting with Reeves and earning his blessing to join the franchise. (The actress previously starred alongside the John Wick lead in Knock Knock (2015) and Exposed (2016).) 'Ten years after we met, we're here working together again. John Wick and the franchise is what it is because of him and what he's done. I have so much respect for him as an actor and the work they've done with the movies,' she said. 'Just to have him on set on my film now supporting me and like you said, giving his blessing to this extension of the franchise, it was a dream come true. Have him walking, wearing the John Wick suit again and in such a cool scene between the two characters, was just amazing,' Armas added. While Ballerina may have underperformed at the box office, moviegoers have rated the film quite highly. The spinoff boasts a 76% critics score from 279 reviews and a stellar 93% audience score from more than 5,000 ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. In addition to a starry cast, the film features a 7-minute dance number by Hiddleston, who told PEOPLE he found filming the scene "spontaneous and joyful." The Life of Chuck releases in theaters on June 6. If you thought this show couldn't get any crazier ... you couldn't be more wrong. Now, her survival depends on trusting a sympathetic police officer (Teyana Taylor) and a soothing friend (Sherri Shepherd). Watch Straw on Netflix. Like to the Vikings and feudal Japan back, because every era in history has predators right? How fun! In all seriousness, this animated anthology jumps across three time zones, ending in World War II, and sets up how predators have been coming to Earth for centuries to prove their competency through battle. Watch Predator: Killer of Killers on Hulu. AppleTV+ loves an underdog sports story, and Stick is no different, starring Owen Wilson as Pryce 'Stick' Cahill. Stick is a former professional golfer whose career ended after he had a very public mental breakdown on the course. When he comes across an amateur teen who he's convinced has what it takes to make it, Stick is reinvigorated and ready to coach him to a championship — but it's, naturally, not as easy as it seems. Watch Stick on AppleTV+. We're ending this week's list with two exciting live events in the Broadway world! Watch the Tony Awards live at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+. For the first time in Broadway history, a play will be aired live on broadcast as Clooney takes his penultimate bow in Good Night, and Good Luck. ‘From the World of John Wick: Ballerina' Review: From Leotards to Lethal Weapons
The fighting in the John Wick movies is so intricately choreographed that it may fairly be described as balletic, so why not go one step further and call the spinoff 'From the World of John Wick: Ballerina'? The title dancer is a pro killer trained by the same gang as Wick, so if this frenzied action film were a ballet it would have to be called something like 'Gore Lake.' Ballet turns out to be little more than a gimmick, however. A training montage features a few glimpses of the movie's heroine, Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), en pointe, intercut with interludes of karate and pistol schooling as she learns to take her lumps, innovate with whatever makeshift weapons happen to be available, and figure out how to dismantle men twice her size.

Raging for revenge
ACTION thriller From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is out now in theatres. Starring Ana De Armas, the film is set to tackle ballerina-assassin Eve Macarro, as she begins to train in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma, a powerful criminal organisation, setting out to avenge her father's death. This is the fifth film in the John Wick franchise, serving as a spin-off set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). In an interview, Ana described the film to be 'very John Wick' while also being unique to her portrayed character. 'I think there are some trademarks in the style of the fights in John Wick, and things that he does that are very particular to him,' she said. 'But because in this movie we're seeing through Eve's eyes the background of that training that John had, and how these assassins and ballerinas, how these people become these assassins, there are some little details that are the same, but Eve Macarro is Eve Macarro. She's not John Wick,' she added. The John Wick film franchise revolves around the titular character, played by Keanu Reeves, who is a legendary hitman who gets constantly dragged back into the criminal underworld despite retiring. Keanu is also set to reprise his role in Ballerina. The film series has earned critical acclaim, and is considered by many publications and critics to be one of the greatest of all times in the action genre.

‘In My Brain Forever' Ana de Armas Cried And Walked Away From One Of Ballerina's Action Scenes Because It Was Too Much
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Ana de Armas demonstrates tremendous skills playing Eve Macarro in Ballerina – the new spinoff/sequel from the John Wick franchise. With a variety of weapons in hand (or sans weapons), she operates like a veteran ass-kicker. Watchin the movie, one can respect that she gained a lot of confidence as an action star in the making of the blockbuster... but that confidence also led her straight into a seriously emotional experience when it came time to shooting the film's flamethrower sequences. When I interviewed director Len Wiseman about Ballerina earlier this year, he told me about how his lead actress cried when she first set a stuntperson on fire, and CinemaBlend's own Hannah Saulic asked Ana de Armas for her own perspective on events while speaking to her at the film's New York press day. She explained that she initially declined practice with the flamethrower, figuring she could learn how to use it on set, but the stunt crew explained that it was something she needed to get used to: Yeah. I think it's, you know, for the most part, the training is more focused on the fights. You know, the physical fights and the choreos and knives and guns and all that. But I never got to practice with a flamethrower, and I definitely [...] the fire. It's a scary thing. And I remember they asked me to rehearse the day before filming and I was like, 'No, that's not necessary. I'll just do it on the day.' And they were like, 'No, no, you really need to just feel it and the heat on your face and everything how it moves.' More Ballerina! The First Time Ana De Armas Met Keanu Reeves, He Showed Her Choreo From The First John Wick. A Decade Later, They're Starring In Ballerina Together--Tom Cruise Has Seen Ballerina, And He Did Not Hold Back About Ana De Armas' New Movie Part of the John Wick aesthetic is not only doing things practically but having stars perform the majority of their own stunts. There was no CGI flamethrower, and there was never intention to use a double. The No Time To Die star was given a seriously dangerous weapon that blasted real fire. Continuing, Ana de Armas said that she knew that she was working with the best in the business when it came to using fire on set and that everyone was being as safe as possible... but that knowledge didn't soften the fact that she was setting another human being aflame. Subsequent blasts didn't affect her the same way, but it sounds like it's something she'll never forget: And I did it, and I knew I was with the best people in the business, like just doing fire. But still when I shot that, you know, this guy and he got on fire, I was I had to like, drop it. And I walked away, and I had to unzip my thing and just cry. It was really emotional. It's just such a visual, horrible thing to, you know, to have in your… it's in my brain forever, you know, but everyone was safe, and I and I knew that. And, you know, I got comfortable with it afterwards. And then I burned 105 people after that. That "105" number may seem like a lot, but after watching Ballerina, you'll find yourself saying, "Yeah, that sounds about right." On that note, audiences will have the opportunity to see the film starting this weekend when it arrives in theaters everywhere – the new John Wick title featuring a talented ensemble including Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves. After you do, be sure to head back here to CinemaBlend for more from our interviews with the cast.
