What to Watch This Weekend (June 7-8): 10 Best New Movies and Shows to Stream Now (Including a Show That'll Have You Locked in For Weeks!)

Yahoo07-06-2025
You really have to buckle in this time because this is a busy week in the world of streaming and movies!
This weekend, June 7-8, we have the usual summer blockbuster action movies and returns of beloved shows, but also something new: two exciting Broadway-related events for those who are theatrically inclined (I'm looking at you, any secret Gleeks!).
More par for the course, Netflix also has a juicy, highly anticipated drama, and Peacock is giving the people what they want: a show that will give you an excuse to not leave your couch for approximately six weeks (like, actually).
And there's more! Here's a list of the 10 best new movies and shows to watch this weekend and where to stream them.
Move aside Black Widow, we have a new trained woman assassin in the mix — and she's no superhero. Ana de Armas stars as ballerina-assassin Eve Macarro, who is hellbent on getting revenge on her father's killers in Ballerina.
A spinoff of the John Wick action series, Ballerina takes place between the events of the third and fourth movie, the latter of which came out in 2023.
Ballerina releases in theaters on June 6.
Just as the title suggests, this movie is about the life of a man named Chuck, played by a cheery Tom Hiddleston, and takes place over three eras in his life, from childhood to adulthood.
In addition to a starry cast, the film features a 7-minute dance number by Hiddleston, who told PEOPLE he found filming the scene "spontaneous and joyful."
The Life of Chuck releases in theaters on June 6.
If you thought this show couldn't get any crazier ... you couldn't be more wrong. Georgia is awaiting her murder trial, Ginny faces teen pregnancy and their relationship is going through its usual ups and downs.
The specific details are even crazier, but we don't want to spoil! Rest assured, if you're looking for a rollercoaster ride (but not the Six Flags kind), this is the right binge for you.
Watch season 3 of Ginny & Georgia on Netflix.
We at PEOPLE are SAT for this show, and we highly recommend that you be too. If you're ready to commit to over a month of new episodes six days a week, then buckle in because Love Island USA is back!
After a steamy sixth season, the beloved show is back for season 7 — and the drama is already piping hot. This time around, viewers will be transported to the tropical coasts of Fiji to watch hot bombshells play with each other's love lives.
Watch new episodes of season 7 of Love Island USA on Peacock.
Taraji P. Henson is a single mother on her last straw in Tyler Perry's Straw. The poor woman's day gets crazier and crazier as she goes from being evicted to being blamed for a bank robbery — and all she wants is to cash a check for her daughter.
Now, her survival depends on trusting a sympathetic police officer (Teyana Taylor) and a soothing friend (Sherri Shepherd).
Watch Straw on Netflix.
If you're a longtime Housewives fan then you'll be just as nostalgic as we are that the kids of our favorite ladies are all grown up — and ready to follow in their parents' footsteps.
Bringing together Housewife favorite celebrity kids like Gia Giudice and Brooks Marks, Next Gen NYC follows a group of reality TV nepo babies and their friends as they live out their 20s in New York (and yes, maybe we're secretly clamoring for an invite ... ).
Watch new episodes of Next Gen NYC on Tuesdays on Bravo and next day on Peacock.
People are clearly super into predators as the ninth installment in the Predators franchise was released on Hulu on June 6 — and this one is taking fans way back. Like to the Vikings and feudal Japan back, because every era in history has predators right? How fun!
In all seriousness, this animated anthology jumps across three time zones, ending in World War II, and sets up how predators have been coming to Earth for centuries to prove their competency through battle.
Watch Predator: Killer of Killers on Hulu.
AppleTV+ loves an underdog sports story, and Stick is no different, starring Owen Wilson as Pryce 'Stick' Cahill.
Stick is a former professional golfer whose career ended after he had a very public mental breakdown on the course. When he comes across an amateur teen who he's convinced has what it takes to make it, Stick is reinvigorated and ready to coach him to a championship — but it's, naturally, not as easy as it seems.
Watch Stick on AppleTV+.
We're ending this week's list with two exciting live events in the Broadway world! First up, the 78th Annual Tony Awards are taking place this Sunday, celebrating the best in theater.
This year marks many of the nominees' Broadway debuts, including George Clooney and Nicole Scherzinger, who are up for two of the most prestigious awards of the night. Other nominees include Mia Farrow, Sadie Sink, Sarah Snook, and Jonathan Groff, while Broadway veteran Cynthia Erivo is set to host the special night.
Watch the Tony Awards live at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.
For the first time in Broadway history, a play will be aired live on broadcast as Clooney takes his penultimate bow in Good Night, and Good Luck.
The 5-time Tony-nominated show, which is based off the 2005 movie of the same name, will end its run on Sunday, June 7 — and give fans who didn't get a chance to nab their ticket one last chance to watch it live before final curtain.
Watch Good Night, and Good Luck live on CNN and CNN.com and streaming live on Max.

‘John Wick' Spinoff ‘Ballerina' Rental Price Drops Big On Streaming

Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves' From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is now available for a lot less on digital streaming. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina opened in theaters on June 6 and debuted on digital streaming via premium video on demand on July 1. The official logline for the movie reads, 'Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Armas), who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.' Produced by John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski and directed by Underworld helmer Len Wiseman, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina also stars Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus and the late Lance Reddick. Reeves, of course, returns as John Wick. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is available for purchase or rent on several digital platforms, including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube. Earlier this week, the platforms dropped the 48-hour rental price for Ballerina from $19.99 to $9.99, while the digital purchase price for the film dropped from $24.99 to $19.99. The film is not yet available on streaming video on demand on a subscription platform. When it is, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina will first be available on the STARZ streaming app. Ana De Armas Has A Striking Memory Of Seeing Keanu Reeves On Set As John Wick During an interview from CinemaCon 2025 in April with The Hollywood Reporter, Ana de Armas recalled seeing Keanu Reeves the first time he appeared on the Ballerina set as John Wick. 'That day, just seeing him walking on set when everyone was waiting. He just walked in with the John Wick suit on again. It was the first time after John Wick 4, which was a very iconic moment,' de Armas told THR. 'I'll never forget that.' Reeves, of course, plays a supporting role in From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, including a showdown with de Armas' character, Eve. 'We shot that scene for three or four days, and he was just full on,' de Armas told THR. 'It was actually longer than we thought, I think, originally in the script. It just kept getting more and more intricate and complicated, and then we found those action moments in between. It became something really special, and it was a good setup for that relationship.' From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is now available for reduced rental and purchase prices on digital streaming.

Quentin Tarantino is happy with David Fincher taking on Once Upon A Time In Hollywood spin-off

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. It's been almost three decades since Quentin Tarantino left another director to handle one of his scripts (the last being From Dusk Till Dawn). Now, David Fincher is being tasked with taking care of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood stuntman, Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), for the new film, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, for Netflix, and he couldn't be happier with his replacement. During a discussion on The Church of Tarantino podcast, Tarantino explained what it meant that Fincher was a blessing that halted any interference with his plans for his tenth film to be his last, amid the upcoming torch passing of the character and the world. 'I love this script, but I'm still walking down the same ground I've already walked. It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I've got to not know what I'm doing again. I've got to be in uncharted territory.' By the sounds of things, there was also no better director at the helm to handle the film, which takes place eight years after Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. 'I think me and David Fincher are the two best directors. So the idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work, to me, shows a level of seriousness towards my work that I think needs to be taken into account,' Tarantino explained. Should there ever be an occasion that the mind behind both movies is needed on set, Tarantino assured that he would make himself available. "I'm moving back and forth between here and Israel, so I won't be on the set every day and everything. But, yeah, I'll be around if they need me to do something, you know, I will." Filming is currently underway, with Brad Pitt already spotted in Booth's legendary worn-down shirt, but there's still no release date confirmed from the big red N just yet as to when we'll see him in action again. Cynthia Nixon's Go-To Lunch: Worth The Hype?

And just like that… And Just Like That is ending. After three seasons, showrunner Michael Patrick King and star Sarah Jessica Parker have announced that the Sex and the City revival is coming to a close. Obviously, Sex and the City has had a major cultural impact. And its impact on food is no exception. The original series helped popularize multiple New York establishments, like Magnolia Bakery. And while not directly SATC-related, Cynthia Nixon had her own moment of food virality when she revealed her go-to bagel order while running for New York Governor. Recently, during press for this last season of And Just Like That, Cynthia gave more insight into her favorite foods, revealing the healthy lunch she's been eating for years. In a cast interview with SiriusXM, Andy Cohen brought up a story Sarah Jessica Parker had previously told about Cynthia Nixon bringing Tupperware with her everywhere. Cynthia confirmed, saying she'd brought it to the dressing room that day, with Kristin Davis piping in that Cynthia had even brought Tupperware to Morocco — presumably referencing when the cast filmed Sex and the City 2 in Marrakech. So, what's in this famous Tupperware? 'I have the same lunch every day unless I go out,' Cynthia explained. 'I have kale, quinoa, curried chickpeas, sweet potato, avocado, red pickled onions, and hot sauce.' The lunch honestly sounded delicious, so I had to give it a try. Psst: To prep hundreds of easy lunches right on your phone, download the free Tasty app right now. The first thing I did was gather my main ingredients. The recipe involves a lot of prep, so I had my work set out for me. I know my avocado looks green. Everything is going to be okay, guys, I promise. To save myself some time, I opted to buy the chickpeas from the store. I couldn't find pre-made curried chickpeas, but I did find Moroccan chickpea stew from the brand Mina at Whole Foods, which had similar ingredients to the recipes I looked at for homemade curried that, I was on my own. The specifics of Cynthia's lunch were vague. How much of each ingredient does she use? How are they prepared? Needless to say, I had to freestyle a bit. I started by prepping the sweet potatoes and red onions; I chopped the sweet potatoes into small chunks and thinly sliced the red onion. I roasted the sweet potatoes at 400°F for about 30 minutes with olive oil and salt. Onto the pickled red onions: I combined boiling water and granulated sugar in a bowl, mixing until the sugar dissolved completely. Next, I added red wine vinegar, the sliced red onion, and salt. I then put this mixture in the fridge to pickle for a few hours. Next up, it was time to deal with the kale. Recipes with kale in them can sometimes turn people off. The key is to massage the raw kale with olive oil until it's reduced in size by about half. This makes the kale softer and easier to eat. During this time, I also made plain quinoa over the stove, following package instructions. Finally, it was time to put everything together! I had to trust my gut with assembly. Was this supposed to be more like a salad (more kale than quinoa) or a bowl (more quinoa than kale)? I decided to make it more like a salad, mixing the kale with about half the amount of quinoa. From there, I loaded everything else on: the sweet potatoes, sliced avocado, chickpeas, and pickled red onions. I finished with a few dashes of hot sauce. So, did Cynthia recover from Bagel Gate? To quote Berger (Post-It Guy) from SATC… 'I'm sorry. I can't. Don't hate me.' This lunch had the potential to be great. I love pickled red onions, and the acidity mingled well with the hearty, roasted sweet potato and creamy avocado. However, the curried chickpeas totally threw off the flavor profile of everything else in the bowl. The cumin flavor was overwhelming amidst the vibe of the rest of the ingredients. It especially clashed with the hot sauce. Though both were spicy, they tasted completely different. I'm guessing Cynthia must be a spice queen, which is why both are included. That being said, it was a nice, hearty lunch. While I didn't give myself a big portion, I could see this lunch getting Cynthia through long filming days if she was loading a substantial amount of it into her Tupperware. If I were to make this lunch in the future, I'd sub the spiced chickpeas with roasted or even plain, canned chickpeas. I'd also add feta to go with the sweet potatoes. Finally, I'd omit the hot sauce and top the salad with green goddess dressing. On to the next celebrity lunch! Hungry for more?
