‘In My Brain Forever' Ana de Armas Cried And Walked Away From One Of Ballerina's Action Scenes Because It Was Too Much
Ana de Armas demonstrates tremendous skills playing Eve Macarro in Ballerina – the new spinoff/sequel from the John Wick franchise. With a variety of weapons in hand (or sans weapons), she operates like a veteran ass-kicker. Watchin the movie, one can respect that she gained a lot of confidence as an action star in the making of the blockbuster... but that confidence also led her straight into a seriously emotional experience when it came time to shooting the film's flamethrower sequences.
When I interviewed director Len Wiseman about Ballerina earlier this year, he told me about how his lead actress cried when she first set a stuntperson on fire, and CinemaBlend's own Hannah Saulic asked Ana de Armas for her own perspective on events while speaking to her at the film's New York press day. She explained that she initially declined practice with the flamethrower, figuring she could learn how to use it on set, but the stunt crew explained that it was something she needed to get used to:
Yeah. I think it's, you know, for the most part, the training is more focused on the fights. You know, the physical fights and the choreos and knives and guns and all that. But I never got to practice with a flamethrower, and I definitely [...] the fire. It's a scary thing. And I remember they asked me to rehearse the day before filming and I was like, 'No, that's not necessary. I'll just do it on the day.' And they were like, 'No, no, you really need to just feel it and the heat on your face and everything how it moves.'

Part of the John Wick aesthetic is not only doing things practically but having stars perform the majority of their own stunts. There was no CGI flamethrower, and there was never intention to use a double. The No Time To Die star was given a seriously dangerous weapon that blasted real fire.
Continuing, Ana de Armas said that she knew that she was working with the best in the business when it came to using fire on set and that everyone was being as safe as possible... but that knowledge didn't soften the fact that she was setting another human being aflame. Subsequent blasts didn't affect her the same way, but it sounds like it's something she'll never forget:
And I did it, and I knew I was with the best people in the business, like just doing fire. But still when I shot that, you know, this guy and he got on fire, I was I had to like, drop it. And I walked away, and I had to unzip my thing and just cry. It was really emotional. It's just such a visual, horrible thing to, you know, to have in your… it's in my brain forever, you know, but everyone was safe, and I and I knew that. And, you know, I got comfortable with it afterwards. And then I burned 105 people after that.
That "105" number may seem like a lot, but after watching Ballerina, you'll find yourself saying, "Yeah, that sounds about right."

Bruce Dickinson reveals 2027 solo album plans, says Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris loves it

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson hopes to release his next solo album in 2027 – and bassist Steve Harris already loves the new material. Talking exclusively to Metal Hammer, Dickinson, who released his latest solo album The Mandrake Project in 2024, reveals that solo LP number eight will be out in two years' time, after Maiden have played their as-yet-unannounced live dates in 2026. The vocalist tells us: 'We've got, like, 18 tracks demoed, which I did in April. We're going to do a new album – not for next year, obviously. We're busy next year with other things, obviously Maiden things and everything, which is great, but '27 that's when it will come out.' The singer goes on to describe what we can expect from his next release, teasing 'bone-crushingly heavy' songs as well as moments that 'are just like tugging at the heartstrings'. 'If it's heavy, it's heavy,' he adds, 'but if it just happens to be acoustic, it's acoustic. That's the deal, you know? 'It's whatever the song dictates, whatever the story is you're trying to tell, but it's really exciting. I'm so stoked about these tracks. I played the demos to a few people in the record label and stuff, and everybody is like, 'Wow!'' Another fan of the upcoming music is Harris, who founded Maiden in 1975 and has served as the band's de facto leader and primary songwriter ever since. According to Dickinson, the bassist just so happened to overhear some of the new stuff, catching it as the singer played it for some of Maiden's team in the next room over. 'I was playing the demos to the team, the management, because I've got it on a little tablet,' Dickinson remembers. 'So I said, 'You want to hear some new stuff?' 'I didn't realise Steve was having his physio in the room next door. And he came out and he went, 'Is that your new stuff?' I went, 'Yeah.' He goes, 'That's the best stuff you've ever done. That's the best stuff I've ever heard from you!' I went, 'Well, thank you very much, boss!'' The three-year wait for new Dickinson music will be nothing compared to the gestation period for The Mandrake Project, which was released 19 years after its predecessor Tyranny Of Souls. The singer explained the wait during an interview with Classic Rock. 'It's been on the boil since 2014,' he said. 'Then I got diagnosed with throat cancer [in late 2014], then we had fucking Covid, so there were two years when I couldn't go to the USA. So by the time I reconvened with [guitarist and producer] Roy Z, everything had moved on.' Last week, Dickinson reissued his second solo album Balls To Picasso, originally released in 1994, with the new title More Balls To Picasso. The reissue features remixed overhauls of the original recordings, as well as live-in-the-studio takes of the songs God Of War and Shoot All The Clowns. Listen below. Avengers: Doomsday's 'leaked' X-Men design for Nightcrawler is actually just fan art

We'll have to wait a bit longer to see the X-Men design for Avengers: Doomsday, because it turns out that a previously 'leaked' image is just fanart. The original artwork was shared by Alan Cumming himself, who plays Nightcrawler and is returning for the next Avengers movie. It appeared to show a picture of his character in costume, but, as one person has debunked on Twitter, the image is actually an edit made by a fan and shared online last year. "Actually, what's great about it, it was four-and-a-half to five hours before, and now it was 90 minutes," Cumming has previously said of his Nightcrawler look. "Before, all the tattoos were done by hand because they hadn't decided on them before we started filming and now there are all these little things that stick on – it's a game changer." Cumming isn't the only X-Men actor returning for Avengers: Doomsday, either. He'll be joined by Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, as revealed in that bumper sized casting announcement. "[I'm] not quite sure [if Mystique's scenes have all been filmed]. They haven't finished writing it." Romijn said back in July. "They keep everything close to the vest themselves in an effort to keep everything under wraps." That tracks with what Kevin Feige has said about the movie, too: "There's plus-ing happening every day on the Avengers: Doomsday set right now, and it is amazing to watch because what those filmmakers, those actors, both the ones that are playing these characters for the first or second time and the one playing them for the 10th or 12th time, are the best in the world at it, and know these characters so well."
