Celtic make approach for Nordsjaelland midfielder Benjamin Nygren
Celtic have made an official approach to Nordsjaelland for their midfielder Benjamin Nygren. The 23-year-old has six months remaining on his contract and has interest from clubs in the top five leagues, but Celtic hope that by moving fast they will be able to persuade the Sweden international to move to Scotland. Danish club Nordsjaelland are understood to be open to a sale at the right price. Nygren had previous spells in Belgium and the Netherlands before joining Nordsjaelland in January 2022. His main position is as an attacking midfielder, but he can also play on both wings and as a centre-forward. After progressing through his nation's youth ranks, he was given his senior Sweden debut in March by Jon Dahl Tomasson and scored in both of Sweden's international friendlies in June – victories against Hungary (June 6) and Algeria (June 10). Advertisement Nygren scored a hat-trick for Nordsjaelland against Fenerbache in the Conference League last season. Since moving to the Danish club in 2022, he has scored 35 goals and provided eight assists in 107 games. Last season, he scored 16 goals and provided four assists as his side finished fifth in the Danish Superliga.

Kent signed with American side Seattle Sounders at the end of March and the Rave Green are taking part in the 32-team tournament. The winger told his club in an interview: 'These are the stages that you want to play on as a footballer and showcase yourself and your team's ability against the best teams in the world. "It's a tournament with all the best teams around the world, so it's quite exciting.' Rangers splashed the cash on the wide man, forking out around £7million for the Englishman in 2019 after a loan spell at the Ibrox side. Kent scored 33 and assisted 56 in 218 games for the Light Blues, and now he wants to show the world that he's still got it. He said: 'You still want to show people across Europe and worldwide what your abilities are as a footballer and what you can still do with the ball. 'It was a perfect opportunity to put myself in and be back on the world stage and showing people what I can do.' Kent picked up a league title and Scottish cup during his spell at Rangers, and came close to a Europa League too, missing out on penalties in the 2022 final vs Eintracht Frankfurt. He wants to use these experiences to shock the world with his Seattle Sounders side, saying: 'If you ever want to win trophies, you have to approach every game like it's a final. You have to set a good tempo to the start of the tournament and get off to a good start and showing other teams that you're not just here to take part.' SunSport reporters clash over Russell Martin as he's revealed as new Rangers boss Kent's side have no easy task in the tournament, with three games in a week. The Sounders will take on Botafogo of Brazil, then Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid, whilst rounding out the group stage with a test against newly-crowned European champions, PSG. The ex-Rangers man has played nine times for his new club, after a five-month spell as a free agent having left Fenerbache in October last year. He has yet to score in the States, but has picked up three assists. 4 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Rangers 0-2 Fenerbahce (3-2 pens): Analysis
Tension, drama, nerves, this Europa League second leg tie wasn't for the faint hearted. At the end of the second half, it looked like there was only going to be one winner as Fenerbache headed into extra time on top. But Rangers dug deep and they found a renewed energy for much of extra nerves during the spot kicks were something else but Rangers and Jack Butland were equal to the pressurised task. Rangers did make life hard for themselves though, given their lead from the first leg, and how they played for the majority of the first half of this one, they allowed Fenerbahce back into this tie and the visitors' confidence only grew. Their goal just before half-time gave them a huge boost, there's no question about that. It had the opposite effect on Rangers. The visitors came out for the second 45 firing on all cylinders, piling on the pressure. Rangers, on the other hand, lost their confidence and their dominance. For the majority of the first half they played with energy and intent, their failure to score from decent positions though was an issue, and it almost came back to haunt Fenerbahce grabbed their second goal of the night, it was deserved, they were the better side and left Rangers' Europa League hopes hanging by a equaliser set up a tense watch for the Rangers fans, the Turkish side were oozing confidence, Rangers were sloppy when they did see the ball. In extra time, Rangers offered more. Vaclav Cerny forced a brilliant save, and suddenly there was some hope. When it went to penalties you fancied Rangers, and Jack Butland more than played his part to cap a brilliant night for the Ibrox side.A great achievement as they march on in Europe.

'Confident' Rangers 'fully focused' on 'getting the job done'
Connor Barron says Rangers will approach their home tie with Fenerbache "with confidence" as Barry Ferguson's side look to reach the last eight of the Europa League and avoid a record fourth consecutive defeat at Scottish Premiership side bring a sensational 3-1 advantage from Istanbul into the second leg tonight, but the midfielder insists no one in the squad believes the job is done."All the boys are buzzing," the 22-year-old said."It was a great result over in Turkey last week but we know it's not over. Everyone's fully focused on making sure the job's done."Interim manager Ferguson watched on with glee as his side dominated Jose Mourinho's side and handled the heat from a ferocious Fenerbache crowd. But Barron knows they need to be even better."We need to be better than what we were over there, Fenerbahce are a top side," he the Scotland under-21 international said. "We respect them and we've got to make sure that we're on the ball tomorrow."We've got to go on and meet every game head on. We're at a big club, these are big matches, every game's a big match."We've got to go out and apply ourselves properly and make sure that we do all we can to get through the tie."We go out there with confidence and look to get through to the next round. "That's all our team's focused on. Every single one of us are focused on getting through to the next round and that's the only thing that we need to care about."For much of the season, Rangers' European exploits have been the only bright lights in an otherwise dull campaign. They are looking to avoid avoid an unprecedented fourth home defeat in a row after defeats to Queen's Park, St Mirren and Motherwell. Barron said it would be a "massive achievement" to make the last eight."We want to go as far as we can in the competition," he added."It would be a massive achievement to make the quarter-finals."There's been a couple of knocks and bumps on the road but it's about how you overcome them and how you look in the future now. "We've got to take every game as it comes and make sure that we win every game we play in, including tonight."

Cerny hopes Fenerbahce win will set standard at Rangers
Vaclav Cerny will "demand" the level of performance Rangers put in against Fenerbache in the Europa League in every winger scored a double as Rangers' interim manager, Barry Ferguson, outwitted Jose Mourinho to bring a two-goal advantage into next Thursday's return leg at Ibrox."You want to be there at the top of your performances every three days," Cerny said post-match. "And that's what I demand from myself. That's what we should demand from each other, from every single one of us."And obviously, let's keep pushing in Europe."While Cerny's goals were crucial to Rangers' wonderful win in Turkey, so too was Ferguson's change of system. "We had a plan, and we just did everything we said before the game," Cerny added. "We stuck to the plan. We knew we could be dangerous in those situations where we got the space, and we were, we were also quite effective."We can also say we did it right today."Every manager, every coaching staff, has their own ideas, that's been the case here as well. The main thing to adapt to it as fast as possible and do as we talk."
