Netflix star of Fool Me Once to star in new BBC series
The Powys star of hit Netflix show Fool Me Once will be starring in a new BBC feel-good series which boasts a top tier cast. Laurie Kynaston, who hails from Llanfyllin, is currently filming in Dublin a six-part series based on the award-winning, bestselling novel Leonard and Hungry Paul. The story follows two unique board-gaming friends meandering through leafy suburban life, charting a story about Judo, ancient Rome, first loves, and the expansion of the Universe. Laurie, 31, stars alongside Derry Girls ' Jamie-Lee O'Donnell and The End of the F***ing World's Alex Lawther in the series which has been filmed throughout May in Ireland. "Having the time of me little life over in Dublin with this lot," Laurie shared in a post on social media which was liked by fellow Fool Me Once star Michelle Keegan. "Leonard and Hungry Paul are fantastic people and we couldn't be making this show with a better bunch." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Laurie Kynaston (@lauriekynaston) The former Llanfyllin High School pupil has been hailed as an emerging talent after winning an Evening Standard Theatre Award for his performance in The Son and also receiving a WhatsOnStage Award nomination. Most recently, he has starred in Harlen Coben's Fool Me Once mystery-drama Netflix mini-series alongside Dame Joanna Lumley and in the Disney+ drama about Anne Franks, A Small Light. In 2015, Laurie returned to Llanfyllin High School to take acting workshops with several drama students and visit his drama teacher Mandy Saunders who described her former student as 'always hardworking and disciplined' who paid 'meticulous attention to detail'. 'It is wonderful to see how his hard work has paid off and we are all so proud of his success- he deserves it!' she added. Llanfyllin High School also boasts an Oscar winner among its former pupils. Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain-raised cinematographer Lol Crawley won the prestigious award for his work in the epic period drama The Brutalist starring Adrien Brody. Speaking about Leonard and Hungry Paul, Eddie Doyle, Senior Head of Content Commissioning at BBC Northern Ireland, said : 'This series promises something special and is full of charm and poignant moments that encapsulate ordinary life. 'With a stellar cast bringing this acclaimed novel to the screen, it will make an exciting addition to BBC Northern Ireland's offering this year.'

Bolton School lands itself a new TV role-this time for a new coffee chain commercial
Cool beans! Bolton School has another starring role on TV - this time in the new Costa Coffee advert. The beautiful facade of the building and the interior of the historic school is used to depict a university in the commercial for the popular coffee chain. It is the latest role for the Chorley New Road school, which has been a go to location for production teams in recent years, and featured on some of the biggest TV dramas. In the new advertisement entitled 'Made with Heart", filming takes place outside and inside of the school, one of the best in the country. The minute long video follows the journey of a young girl, who is beginning life at university and finds solace and friendship in a Costa Coffee shop. A spokesperson for Bolton School said: 'We know that filming in iconic Bolton locations is great for the town in terms of civic pride and the local economy and we are pleased that the beautiful buildings at our school, both old and new, are attractive to a wide range of film makers. This is not the first time the school has hit the silver screen. Bolton School is a popular filming location in Bolton, frequently used as a backdrop for various television dramas and films. The money earned from filming is used to support the school's bursary scheme, enabling bright students from all backgrounds to attend. Currently one in five students are on the bursary fund scheme but the school would like this to be one in three. In recent years, the school has provided the backdrop for Netflix's hit TV series, Fool Me Once, BBC's teenage detective drama, Get Even and BBC one drama starring Michelle Keegan, Our Girl. Elsewhere in Bolton, Le Mans Crescent is famous for Peaky Blinders, Alma's Not Normal, It's A Sin, Ridley and Nolly, which featured Hollywood star Helena Bonham Carter. And Bolton Town Hall became a winter backdrop for A Gentleman in Moscow with A-lister Ewan McGregor coming to town.

Bury venue featured on TV named as UK's top arcade
Europe's biggest free play arcade, nested away in a converted Bury mill, has been named as the UK's best ahead of the bank holiday weekend. New research has revealed the best arcades and Arcade Club on Cork Street has been ranked as number one. The retro club began as a passion project by owner Andy Palmer, who started off with just 30 machines, and soon expanded to open up other venues across the North West. The Arcade Club Leeds and Blackpool locations, also owned by Andy, came in the top five too, making it a clean sweep for the business. Leeds ranked second while Blackpool came in fifth. VegasSlotsOnline combined Google reviews, the average time people spent at each venue, online search volume and other factors to rate arcades across the UK. It found that people spend an average of four hours at Arcade Club Bury, which has an impressive Google review score of 4.8 out of 5. One review said: 'Amazing experience. You can leave and enter as many times as you need within your timed hours. 'The cloakroom is free to use just ask as you arrive. Floors themed with types of games. Toilets on every floor. Something for everyone and suitable for all ages.' Another shared: 'An amazing nerd haven, I was awestruck by the options. One time fee entry and all games are free to play it has a bar with decent food. 'We were in our element playing loads of games. I managed to complete the entirety of house of the dead. 'Great night out. Definitely going again.' The family-friendly venue featured in the Netflix thriller, Fool Me Once, and has supplied props to major productions such as Ready Player One, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Black Mirror. A spokesperson for Arcade Club said: 'We were thrilled to be named the best arcade in the UK. 'With Leeds ranked number two and Blackpool also in the top five, we're incredibly proud of what the whole team has built. 'We go the extra mile because it's the right thing to do. The actress will star alongside Fool Me Once actor Laurie Kynaston and The End of the F***ing World star Alex Lawther in the six-part TV series. The show is an adaptation of Irish author Rónán Hession's acclaimed novel of the same name and is currently filming in Dublin. O'Donnell said she was "delighted to be part of a wonderful story, with a gorgeous cast and crew." The story follows "two unique board-gaming friends meandering through leafy suburban life, charting a story about Judo, ancient Rome, first loves, and the expansion of the Universe". Andrew Chaplin, known for the TV series The Full Monty and Alma's Not Normal, will direct from scripts by Richie Conroy and Mark Hodkinson. Chaplin said of the series: "At a time when most shows involve dragons, detectives, or existential dread, Leonard and Hungry Paul takes a slower route - through kindness, the quiet gravity of small things, and the occasional game of backgammon. "Proof that not all heroes shout - some just know when to stay quiet." Novelist Hession added: "I am delighted to see Leonard and Hungry Paul being adapted for the screen. "It's a real privilege as a writer to see my work being brought to life in a different creative form."
