Celtic & Rangers transfer mystery shrouds imminent deal

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has taken to social media to reveal that Portuguese international Carlos Forbs is on the verge of switching Ajax and Club Brugge. Not a big deal, right? Well, the world-renowned journalist has revealed that Forbs chose Belgium over offers he'd received from Scotland, as well as other European countries. Given he's about to move for around £7.4m, this would only leave Celtic or Rangers as his potential destination. While it's not clear which of the Old Firm might have been in the mix for his signature, both teams have been in the market for wingers this summer. Russell Martin has signed Djedi Gassama today for £2.2m while more wide players are reportedly on his radar. Across the city, Celtic have signed Swede Benjamin Nygren while another could be on the way should Brendan Rodgers sanction the sale of Korean attacker Yang Hyun-Jun. Wolves in talks with Ajax to end Carlos Forbs loan spell early

Wolverhampton Wanderers are in discussions with Ajax about the possibility of an early end to Carlos Forbs' loan spell at Molineux. The 20-year-old winger signed for Wolves on loan in the summer with an obligation to buy for £11million this summer if he played a certain number of games. Forbs has failed to hit that number, making just one start and nine appearances overall in the Premier League, amassing just 237 minutes of league action. Advertisement Now Ajax are hoping to take him back to Amsterdam to help solve their own transfer problems, with the club in need of extra options in wide positions. They have so far been unable to land their transfer targets in that position and see a recall for Forbs, who made 21 appearances in the Dutch league last season, registering two goals and three assists, as a perfect solution. GO DEEPER Why Vitor Pereira cannot be the latest Wolves manager to be left short-changed in a transfer window The Portugal under-21 international is keen on the move, having grown frustrated with a lack of playing time at Wolves. But the loan agreement did not include an in-built recall clause so the clubs are now in negotiations over how to bring Forbs' stay at Molineux to an early end.
