Carnival closes after waltzer car carrying three kids crashes off fairground ride

A carnival in Edinburgh has shut after a malfunction saw a waltzer car break from the fairground ride and crash to the ground. The father of the kids inside the car said they are 'lucky they are still able to walk' after the incident. Kevin McNulty's children – aged 13, 12 and seven – were in a car on the ride at the Galactic Carnival fairground in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh, when the crash took place on Saturday evening. He said the ride was going 'full pelt' when the mechanism holding their car broke off from the carousel and crashed into one he was riding in. One of his children was filming the ride at the time of the crash and their screams were captured as they veered off towards a speaker. The dad-of-three shared images on social media showing the car at the side of the ride. Kevin McNulty Photos showed where the car broke free. He said: 'Thankfully there was a heavy large speaker that they collided with or they would have been through the whole thing and then the ending would have been a completely different story – a thought I can't stop thinking about. 'The place should have been shut down for a full inspection. It was like something you see in the movies and my kids are very, very lucky that they managed to get out of this still walking.' He added: 'My kids are still in shock, and I just want for this to never happen again as the next people will not be as lucky as my kids were.' In a statement on Monday, organisers Galactic Carnival Edinburgh confirmed the event has closed while an investigation is under way. The organisers said it is 'truly sorry for the distress caused by the incident'. In a statement posted on social media, a spokesperson said: 'We know that there is news circulating following an incident on our Waltzer ride at Galactic Carnival Edinburgh over the weekend. All tickets purchased for future dates will be refunded automatically through our ticketing agent Skiddle. 'Once again we are truly sorry for the distress this has caused.' Dr Scott Arthur, the MP of Edinburgh South West, wrote on X saying: 'A few people have been in touch about an incident at the funfair, and I am in the process of raising it with the council.' The moment funfair ride comes off the track with children on board

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Families were left shocked after a carnival ride suddenly crashed at an Edinburgh fair. A dad-of-three said his kids are 'very lucky' to have walked out of the Waltzers funfair ride after it appeared to malfunction at the Galactic Carnival Festival in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh, last night. Kevin McNulty said he was on the ride with his three children and partner when the 'unthinkable happened.' The car came 'completely off' when the ride was going at 'full pelt' as the kids were enjoying the day out in one car and Kevin and his partner rode in another behind them. On footage captured by the dad-of-three, fairgoers can be first heard laughing and whooping in excitement as the ride spins around. However, the sounds turn into terrified screams when some of the cars crash off the spinning platform and onto the side. A panicked child can be heard yelling 'oh my God, oh my God,' with crying in the background. Kevin wrote on social media how the 'car came completely off and then went flying into our car and then smashed about the place crashing into the side off the track.' He said hurtling cars were 'thankfully' blocked by heavy large speaker 'that they collided with or they would have been through the whole thing and then the ending would have been a completely different story.' Kevin said he 'can't stop thinking about' what could have happened if the equipment had not been there. Pictures he took appear to show nuts and bolts on the floor near the ride in the immediate aftermath of the accident. Kevin claimed that when a male manager arrived, he told the workers to 'get the bolts off the ground before they get pictures,' accusing him of not giving 'a single care' about his children. He said his children are 'very lucky that they managed to get out of this still walking.' Other rides then continued, but the Waltzers was stopped, he said. However, he said he thinks the fair 'should have been shut down for a full inspection.' More Trending Hundreds of people commented after Kevin shared the experience on social media. One person said: 'Horrendous and could have so easily been a different outcome! Shocking.' Another said: 'Thats horrendous hope they are all ok.' Horrifying moment fairground waltzer came off the tracks and crashed at high speed

The car carrying three children came off the track at high speed during a family day at the shows. This is the horrifying moment a fairground waltzer came off the tracks and crashed at high speed during a family day out in Edinburgh. Dad-of-three Kevin McNulty and his partner Brooke were with his children, Kayla, 13, Leona, 12, and Codie, 7, at Galactic Carnival in Westside Plaza Wester Hailes on Saturday, May 10, when the frightening experience happened leaving them all in shock. ‌ Footage shows the children on the ride, while dance music blares in the background. The cars spin around at pace and the kids seem to be enjoying the experience. ‌ However, panic soon sets in when the car comes off the track and the children can be heard screaming in terror. The clip ends as the car comes to a stop and Kevin races around to be with his children. Speaking to the Record, Kevin explained how he was on the car behind with Brooke when the incident happened. He said: "I just noticed the children's car spinning our way, but it didn't stop and just smashed off us and then went flying past. I didn't think and just jumped up and off the ride while it was still going at full pelt without even thinking. "I ran around towards where the car had landed and thankfully they were alright and hadn't suffered any injuries. "Even today I am still in complete shock. I feel sick just thinking about it and how bad it could all have gone. We are all just extremely lucky that the children weren't badly hurt." ‌ He said: 'Last night we were at these shows at Wester Hailes three kids were on the waltzers and then the unthinkable full pelt and not slowing down their car came completely off and then went flying into our car and then smashed about the place crashing into the side off the track. "Thankfully there was a heavy large speaker that they collided with or they would have been through the whole thing and then the ending would have been a completely different story. I can't stop thinking about it.' ‌ He continued: 'The shows continued to go, but not the waltzers. The place should have been shut down for a full inspection. It was like something you see in the movies and my kids are very, very lucky that they managed to get out of this still walking.' The Record has approached Galactic Carnival Edinburgh for comment.
