I saw Gary Barlow perform in Glasgow's Armadillo
Singer Gary Barlow stripped it back to basics from the big production shows his fans are used to for an intimate set in Glasgow's Armadillo tonight - and the results were simply wonderful. The razzmatazz of the Take That shows was nowhere to be seen as he opted for a set featuring incredible musicians showing off their talent. Opening up with his 1997 solo track Open Road, the 54-year-old quickly switched things back to familiar territory with the Take That smash Greatest Day as confetti fell into the crowd. (Image: Gary Barlow performs at Glasgow's Armadillo in May 2025. Pic by Calum Buchan.) (Image: Gary Barlow performs at Glasgow's Armadillo in May 2025. Pic by Calum Buchan.) Smiling from ear to ear, Barlow beamed: 'Good evening Glasgow 'It's always loud in Scotland.' And the screams echoed around the arena as he rearranged Take That classics Sure and Everything Changes. (Image: Gary Barlow performs at Glasgow's Armadillo in May 2025. Pic by Calum Buchan.) (Image: Gary Barlow performs at Glasgow's Armadillo in May 2025. Pic by Calum Buchan.) The Piano star Brad Keller then joined Barlow on stage for a performance of A Million Love Songs with saxophonist Mike Stevens in tow, and it sounded just gorgeous. The Flood - the song which launched Robbie Williams' brief return to Take That in 2010 - was a moment to remember, with the crowd singing in unison with their arms in the air. (Image: Gary Barlow performs at Glasgow's Armadillo in May 2025. Pic by Calum Buchan.) What's great about Barlow's solo gigs is that he gets to show his true self on stage. You can see glimpses of what he learned in his early career performing in the working men's clubs from the humour he honed from the comedians to encouragement of audience participation, it makes you feel part of the show - and it's something that can be easily lost the bigger the crowd, yet Barlow has mastered it. (Image: Gary Barlow performs at Glasgow's Armadillo in May 2025. Pic by Calum Buchan.) (Image: Gary Barlow performs at Glasgow's Armadillo in May 2025. Pic by Calum Buchan.) (Image: Gary Barlow performs at Glasgow's Armadillo in May 2025. Pic by Calum Buchan.) Patience put Barlow's voice in the spotlight, and he sounded incredible. We know he can write songs, his talent is exceptional, but when he sings them on his own, you feel the meaning even more. This was the case during a piano performance of Forever Love, it was just beautiful. Shine delighted the crowd, let's face it that song just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, it's a complete mood lifter while Relight my Fire got the party started. The pop masterpiece Back for Good then delivered reminding fans of the beauty of Barlow's writing, it's pure genius and a song that's stood the test of time. (Image: Gary Barlow performs at Glasgow's Armadillo in May 2025. Pic by Calum Buchan.) Finishing things off, Barlow flattered: 'The fact you've chosen to spend your evening with us means the world,' before performing Rule the World and Never Forget.

Glasgow's Hydro breaks silence after Olly Murs axed gig
The singer walked out of his concert at the Hydro after just 'five songs' due to health concerns on Thursday, May 22. The star, who shot to fame on the X Factor in 2009, was performing at the West End venue as part of his 15 Years of Hits Tour. However, the 41-year-old was forced to cancel the show shortly after it started as he was struggling with his voice. READ MORE: Busker entertains crowd leaving Olly Murs gig cancelled after 'five songs' Following the event being axed halfway through, the Hydro has now revealed Olly has cancelled his Manchester and Birmingham shows, on top of last night's Glasgow one. They also said all customers should receive a refund from their point of purchase. Additionally, the venue wished Olly a 'speedy recovery' and said they 'look forward to welcoming him back' in the future. Olly has now confirmed he is cancelling his Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham shows and all customers should receive refunds from their point of purchase. — OVO Hydro (@OVOHydro) May 23, 2025 In a video shared on Instagram after the show last night, Murs said he was "so sorry I had to walk off after six songs". The Troublemaker singer said: "I've never done this in 15 years. "Most of the time, as singers, you can kind of get through it if your voice isn't 100%, but I walked out tonight thinking my voice was great. "Yeah, I maybe felt a little bit run down, but I didn't think I couldn't do the show or I wouldn't have come out there otherwise, so to walk off after six songs, as I said on stage, I'm so sorry." He continued: "As you can probably hear from my voice, it just sounded rubbish and it's unfair for you guys that have come and seen me spend all that money, you deserve the best show and me being at my best. "I'm so sorry from the bottom of my heart." Murs revealed he was planning to see a doctor and would "try my absolute best" to make it to shows in Manchester, Birmingham and London, which were scheduled for this weekend. Taking to X after the show, one disappointed fan posted: "Olly Murs walking off stage in Glasgow, five songs in, could cry. "Better be coming back, and I better get first pick." Another person wrote: "One minute, Olly Murs, voice is fine, and the next he sends everyone home after just five songs at a packed OVO Hydro in Glasgow complaining of vocal issues." Murs previously performed at the Hydro earlier this month on his 15 Years tour. An OVO Hydro spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, Olly Murs had to cut his performance short last night due to issues with his voice. Olly has now confirmed he is cancelling his Glasgow, Manchester, and Birmingham shows, and all customers should receive refunds from their point of purchase. "We wish Olly a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to The OVO Hydro in the future." "This has never happened before, and not something I take lightly. "I'm sorry to all the fans who came out to the show last night, and I am forever grateful for your support. "To everyone in Manchester and Birmingham, I'm deeply sorry, but I am unfortunately going to have to cancel my shows this weekend. "I have contracted a respiratory infection and have been instructed to go on a strict 48-hour voice rest by the doctor to ensure no further damage to my vocal cords. "I have been enjoying this tour so much, and am so sorry to let down my fans, but I have to put my health first. I'm hoping to be fighting fit in a few days to finish this amazing 15-year celebratory tour with a bang."
