John Stamos says he was with Mike Love when they learned of Brian Wilson's death
John Stamos is sharing how he learned of the news of Beach Boys' co-founder Brian Wilson's death. In a brief conversation with Entertainment Tonight while on the red carpet for the Songwriters Hall of Fame gala, Stamos got choked up when he recalled getting a text with the news of Wilson's passing while he was with Wilson's bandmate and cousin, Mike Love. 'Mike and I were together when I got the text, and I had to tell him,' Stamos said through tears. 'Without Brian Wilson, life would be a mistake.' 'I mean, his music has been part of my DNA,' Stamos wrote. 'And the beauty and the happiness and the joy and the optimism and the positivity that I've gotten from their music has made who I am.' 'You know, one of my greatest honors is when someone comes up and says, 'Oh, I got turned on to the Beach Boys because of you and 'Full House,'' Stamos shared. The actor and the band often collaborated via the hit sitcom in the 80s and 90s and continued their relationship over the last several decades. 'It's the greatest gift that I could have given back to them,' Stamos, who will be performing with the Beach Boys at The Town Hall in New York City, continued. 'Tomorrow will be our first show since Brian's gone,' he said, referring to the performance. 'I don't know how we're gonna get through it. You know, 'God Only Knows' starts playing, you know, but we'll get through it, and we have to, you know, for Brian.' 'I think, obviously, the rest of this summer, the rest of the live shows forever, I think will be dedicated to Brian Wilson, and will be a tribute to him.' Wilson's family confirmed the news of his death in a statement shared on X on Wednesday, June 11. Alongside a photo of Wilson, the statement read, 'We are heartbroken to announced (sic) that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away. We are at a loss for words right now. 'Please respect our privacy at this time as our family (is) grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world,' it continued, before the family signed off, writing, 'Love & Mercy.' Wilson made up one-fifth of the popular rock group known as the Beach Boys, which also included his brothers Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin, Mike Love, and their friend, Al Jardine. Wilson founded the band in 1961, and the group skyrocketed to fame following the release of their first single 'Surfin'' released that same year.

John Stamos Remembers Brian Wilson: ‘His Voice Is Part of the Divine Chorus'
For John Stamos, Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson 'didn't just soundtrack' his life, the legendary founder of California rock 'filled it with color, with wonder, with some of the most unforgettable, emotional, joyful moments I've ever known.'Following news of Wilson death at the age of 82, Stamos honored the Beach Boys' chief songwriter in a tribute shared to social media on Wednesday. 'It's hard to put into words what it meant to stand beside him, laugh with him, play his music with him,' wrote Stamos, who played frequently with the group. 'Brian wasn't just a musical genius, he was a gentle, soulful, funny, complex, beautiful man. He heard things no one else could hear. He felt things deeper than most of us ever will. And somehow, he turned all of that into music that wrapped itself around the world and made us all feel less alone.' Stamos said that he 'grew up worshipping the Beach Boys' and never imagined that one day he'd 'get to play with them, let alone call Brian a friend.' The musician-actor, who performed with the band on the set of Full House and appeared in their music videos, said that the 1966 album Pet Sounds and its singles 'God Only Knows' and 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' not only played 'in the background of our lives, they shaped who we were.' 'They shaped who I became,' continued Stamos. 'His music made me feel things I didn't know how to say. It made me want to make people feel the way his music made me feel. So much of my life and career, so much of me, exists because of what Brian created.' Stamos was among the numerous celebrities who shared tributes remembering Wilson, including Mick Fleetwood, Elton John, Nancy Sinatra, and surviving Beach Boys co-founders Mike Love and Al Jardine. Toward the end of his post, Stamos recalled Wilson once saying, 'Music is God's voice.' Stamos wrote, 'I believe he was right, and now that voice, his voice, is part of the divine chorus. The music didn't easy, Brian. Thank you for the music. Thank you for the moments. I'll carry them with me -forever.' Paul McCartney Pays Tribute to ‘Musical Genius' Brian Wilson: ‘I Loved Him'
Paul McCartney has paid tribute to Brian Wilson following the death of the Beach Boys' 'musical genius.' 'Brian had that mysterious sense of musical genius that made his songs so achingly special,' McCartney wrote on social media Thursday, the morning after Wilson's death was announced. More from Rolling Stone John Stamos Remembers Brian Wilson: 'His Voice Is Part of the Divine Chorus' Mike Love Honors Cousin Brian Wilson: 'The Soul of Our Sound' Carnie Wilson Mourns Dad Brian Wilson: 'I've Never Felt This Kind of Pain Before' 'The notes he heard in his head and passed to us were simple and brilliant at the same time. I loved him, and was privileged to be around his bright shining light for a little while.' The Beach Boys and the Beatles enjoyed a creative rivalry in the Sixties that pushed both bands musically, to the benefit of everyone: In response to the Beatles' Rubber Soul, Brian Wilson encouraged his band toward experimentation to create their classic Pet Sounds (Rolling Stone named it Number Two in its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time) which in turn inspired the Beatles on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. McCartney has long praised Wilson's incomparable musical abilities, and even delivered the induction speech when the Beach Boy was welcomed into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, where he declared Wilson was 'one of the great American geniuses.' The Beatle has also claimed that the Beach Boys' 'God Only Knows' is his favorite song of all time, and fittingly ended his tribute by noting, 'How we will continue without Brian Wilson, 'God Only Knows.'' Following news of Wilson's death, his Beach Boys band mates and some of the countless artists he inspired have also paid tribute to the pop music architect and composer of teenage symphonies to God. Elton John called Wilson 'the biggest influence on my songwriting ever; he was a musical genius and revolutionary. He changed the goalposts when it came to writing songs and shaped music forever. A true giant.' Artists like Carole King, Graham Nash, Mick Fleetwood, Nancy Sinatra, and more have shared their own tributes to Wilson.
