Leighton Meester breaks her silence on ‘Gossip Girl' costar Michelle Trachtenberg's death
Leighton Meester is opening up about her former 'Gossip Girl' costar's shocking death. The actress, 39, shared that the news of Michelle Trachtenberg's death hit her particularly hard because they were the same age. 'It's devastating,' Meester revealed to Flaunt Magazine. 'She was a wonderful, talented person, and everyone loved her. It's very, very sad for everyone who knew her.' 6 Michelle Trachtenberg and Leighton Meester attend the grand opening celebration at American Eagle Outfitters, Times Square on November 17, 2009 in New York City. 'Now, I can see that [the show's legacy] continues — in some ways, even more so than back then — to live on, which is incredible,' Meester told the outlet. On the series, the 'That's My Boy' actress played Blair Waldorf while the 'Harriet the Spy' alum starred as Georgina Sparks. 6 Leighton Meester (L) and Michelle Trachtenberg attend the 'You Know You Want It' publication celebration. Getty Images Penn Badgley, who portrayed Dan Humphrey, broke his silence on Trachtenberg's death, telling E! News in April that her passing was 'really surreal, really saddening.' 'What I remember of her is she was incredibly quick to laugh,' the actor, 38, added. 'She was really joyous.' Although they hadn't crossed paths in over 10 years, Badgley said Trachtenberg had a 'really pure heart.' 6 Michelle Trachtenberg, Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly attend the dinner for the NYLON celebration. Dimitrios Kambouris Blake Lively (Serena van der Woodsen), meanwhile, reminisced on Trachtenberg's 'electricity' on social media. 'You knew when she entered a room because the vibration changed,' the 'A Simple Favor' star wrote on her Instagram Stories in February. 'She laughed the fullest at someone's joked, she faced authority head on when she felt something was wrong, she cared deeply about her work, she was proud to be a part of this community and industry as painful as it could be sometimes, she was fiercely loyal to her friends and brave for those she loved, she was big and bold and distinctly herself.' Lively, 37, noted she'll remember how the late star 'always had yummy caramel smelling lipgloss on.' 6 Blake Lively, and Michelle Trachtenberg on 'Gossip Girl.' ©CW Network/Courtesy Everett Col 'Because she didn't just want to sparkle on camera,' she continued, 'she liked creating a nice experience for anyone who was in her orbit, even down to the subtle smell of her lipgloss because she cared about the sweet details.' Trachtenberg died due to complications from diabetes at age 39. She was found by her mother on Feb. 26 in her Central Park South apartment and had previously undergone a liver transplant in the last year. 'It is with great sadness [we] confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away,' Trachtenberg's rep Gary Mantoosh confirmed in a statement to The Post. 'The family requests privacy for their loss. There are no further details at this time.' 6 Leighton Meester and Michelle Trachtenberg on 'Gossip Girl.' ©CW Network/Courtesy Everett Collection Sources initially speculated that the transplant might have played a part in her passing. The NYPD confirmed Trachtenberg was found 'unconscious and unresponsive' by police and pronounced dead by EMS workers. They responded to the building after a 911 call reporting a woman in cardiac arrest. In the months before her death, fans were concerned that Trachtenberg appeared gaunt in her social media pictures. But, last January, she responded to fan concerns, sharing she was 'happy and healthy' and had never had plastic surgery. 6 Michelle Trachtenberg. Instagram/michelletrachtenberg Many other fans and former co-stars took to social media to share their condolences over the heartbreaking death, including another 'Gossip Girl' vet, Ed Westwick. 'So sad to hear of the passing of @michelletrachtenberg,' the 37-year-old wrote on his Instagram Story alongside a snap of the late actress on the series.

Nobody Wants This casts star's real-life spouse to appear in season 2
Netflix may have just released an exciting real-life crossover casting announcement for season 2 of Nobody Wants This. Doubling down on the hype for the new chapter, the streamer shared that Leighton Meester, who's married to Noah star Adam Brody in real life, has been cast in a guest role. As if fans weren't already eager to reunite with Noah and Joanne, played by Kristen Bell, it has been revealed that Meester will be playing Joanne's middle school nemesis Abby. Related: According to a post appeared on Netflix's Twitter/X, the frenemies are expected to cross paths many years later, but it isn't clear whether they'll bury the axe this time around. Not much else is known about Abby, who's said to be an Instagram mum influencer, but we can guess that she and Joanne may not exactly see eye to eye. Meester appearing on Nobody Wants This, and working with Bell specifically, also makes for a Gossip Girl reunion. More recently seen as Meredith in the short-lived How I Met Your Father, Meester is known for portraying Blair Waldorf in six seasons of Gossip Girl, while Bell famously voiced the titular snarky narrator. Also featuring in comedy Good Cop/Bad Cop on The CW, Meester is next set to appear in season 2 of Apple TV+'s period drama The Buccaneers. Related: Premiering last year, Nobody Wants This follows the unlikely love story between sex-positive, agnostic podcaster Joanne and 'hot rabbi' Noah, as their families are very vocally sceptical about the relationship. The show also stars Succession's Justine Lupe as Joanne's sister and podcast co-host Morgan, Veep's Timothy Simons as Noah's brother Sasha, and GLOW's Jackie Thon as Sasha's wife Esther. Thon graduated to series regular for season 2, with the comedy also adding Miles Flower as Lenny, one of Noah's Matzah Ballers teammates who's set up with Morgan. ‘Good Cop/Bad Cop' review: A brother and sister become police partners, with dad as their boss
Television shows anchored by odd-couple sleuths usually pair a man and a woman whose light bickering is a mask for the sexual tension between them. So what happens when the duo are siblings instead, as they are on the CW's 'Good Cop/Bad Cop'? Absent the flirtating and sublimated urges: No spark, no fire. The latest addition to the network's bouncy case-of-the-week output (which also includes Canadian import 'Wild Cards'), 'Good Cop/Bad Cop' takes place in the Pacific Northwest where a detective named Lou (Leighton Meester) is surrounded by barely competent co-workers. Everyone knows everyone in their small town, which comes in handy during interrogations, but Lou thinks this is a waste of her talents: 'I'm sick of having to play the 'I'll tell your mom' card.' So the police chief, who is also her dad, decides to change things up and give her a partner, pairing Lou with her rigid, socially robotic younger brother Henry (Luke Cook), who is fresh out of the police academy. There's your premise: Sibling banter and quirky cases. (The show is a co-production between multiple entities including an Australian streaming service, which is why, despite the setting, it was filmed not in the U.S. or even Vancouver, but in Queensland.) Lou and Henry get on each other's nerves because their personalities are so different. He was likely the kid in class who reminded the teacher to give homework and she was probably the kid who rolled her eyes in response. But if she's the more outwardly 'normal' one, it's only because she's better at hiding her idiosyncrasies. They are professionally incompatible — he's a foot taller than her, which visually underscores their inability to see eye-to-eye — and the running joke is that even as adults on the job, they still bicker like children. When they disagree, she offers him a wager: 'If I'm right, then I get to punch you as hard as I can.' And if I'm right, he asks? 'Then you don't get punched.' Dad (Clancy Brown) is a good ol' boy type and thinks it's a fine idea to turn his police department into a family business, because this is a version of policing where everyone is kindly and goodhearted and why let nepotism get in the way of a taxpayer-funded family reunion? I like what creator John Quaintance is aiming for, even if I would have preferred a format besides yet more copaganda. (Couldn't this have been a family of private eyes instead?!) We need upbeat, easy-to-watch dramedies that follow an episodic template and I really wanted to like this one. The series is pleasant enough, but there's also a flatness to it because it lacks a compelling binding agent underneath Lou and Henry's mutual annoyance. Other shows rely on a 'just kiss already!' energy to do a lot of that work. Not an option here, which is fine, but Quaintance hasn't figured out a suitable replacement. Friction doesn't automatically generate chemistry. 'Good Cop/Bad Cop' — 2 stars (out of 4) Where to watch: 8 p.m. Wednesdays on The CW

Leighton Meester ready for police series ‘Good Cop/Bad Cop' premiere
(NewsNation) — If you were missing Blair Waldorf in your life, you're not alone. Lucky for us, Leighton Meester is returning to TV once again with The CW. Only this time, she's exchanging her tiara for a pair of handcuffs. Her new show, 'Good Cop/Bad Cop,' premiering Feb. 19 on The CW, is a light-hearted mystery series that follows Lou Hickman, played by Meester, a detective working in the fictional small town of Eden Vale. When things start to go awry, Lou suggests to the police chief, played by Clancy Brown, that she get a new partner. The chief agrees and wrangles her estranged brother, Henry, played by Luke Cook, for the job. Although he's good at his job, Henry is considered the black sheep of the family and struggles to get along with others — unlike Lou, who uses her loveable, quirky attitude to her advantage with the town. Of course, this makes for a dysfunctional yet funny family dynamic. In a recent interview with The CW, when both Meester and Cook were asked about the hardest part of playing siblings, Meester replied, 'Was it hard playing siblings? I don't think so.' Cook agreed and said that during filming, guest stars in the pilot said, 'It feels like you've been working together forever.' 'We look exactly alike,' Meester added. The two brought up the theory that people who are dating or married look alike, with Meester admitting she feels that way about her husband, Adam Brody. 'I think that, I see that, I feel that way in my own (relationship),' Meester said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
