Valerie Bertinelli celebrates 65th birthday with lingerie photo, admits she's been told she's ‘too much'

Valerie Bertinelli is embracing everything about herself as she celebrates her 65th birthday. On Wednesday, the "One Day at a Time" star posted a video montage of dozens of photos, writing, "Went through it all in the last handful of years and I'm so grateful for the downs as much as I am for all of the ups I am blessed to experience. The light at the end of the tunnel is finally here. I can see it. I feel it." She continued, "I love my family. I love my friends. I love all of you out there supporting me and being a part of our community here.I am one lucky and grateful mofo." Among the images Bertinelli shared was a throwback to a lingerie photo she took in a bathroom last year, one she posted as part of feeling "acceptance" of her life and body. "At some point I will talk about the madness my body has been through this year," she wrote at the time. "But right now every lump bump wrinkle and saggy part of me just feels acceptance and simple appreciation to be standing in front of a mirror in a hotel bathroom in downtown Manhattan ready to color my roots late on a Monday night." Part of that journey involved abstaining from alcohol and focusing on the future. Bertinelli also shared another element of acceptance on Thursday when she appeared on "The Drew Barrymore Show." During a segment celebrating an audience member's makeover, relationship expert Damona Hoffman offered the advice, "If someone thinks you're too much, then they are not enough, and that is not your problem." Bertinelli asked the panel and crowd, "How many people have been told they're too much?" She, Barrymore and others in the studio all raised their hands. The 65-year-old split from her boyfriend, Mike Goodnough, last fall after dating for 10 months. She first went public with the relationship in March 2024 but ended things in November. Goodnough recently spoke out on social media, accusing the former Food Network star of taking "backhanded swipes" at him in her Instagram posts when he spoke out about speculation that the two were engaged in a subtle online feud. He responded to the many "messages and replies" he said he had received, which implied that the duo "appear to be communicating with each other via our Instagram posts and stories." "That is not the case," he wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. "I have never at any time posted something on social media for the purposes of communicating with someone indirectly when I know them personally and have ample ways to reach them directly." He asserted that he still cared for Bertinelli despite their split, writing, "I have love for her and I always will." In a February Instagram post, Bertinelli reflected on what makes relationships work, writing that she had "fumbled the last true good man I met." Bertinelli heaped praise on Goodnough in a since-deleted post that she shared last month. According to People magazine, the Delaware native wrote that she felt "so lucky to have gotten to know him," and she had been "irreversibly changed by him for the better." Bertinelli was previously married to Tom Vitale from 2011 to 2022, and the actress described their divorce as "wicked." Prior to her marriage to Vitale, Bertinelli was married to musician Eddie Van Halen from 1981 to 2007.

Valerie Bertinelli, 65, shares lingerie selfie to celebrate becoming a senior citizen... after nasty split

Valerie Bertinelli made a very rare move of sharing a flashback lingerie image to Instagram on Wednesday. The Hot In Cleveland actress was in a black bra with matching underwear as she flashed her tummy. She impressively had abs and a small waistline. The Drew Barrymore Show star also showed off her toned arms while she went makeup free with her dark hair down over her shoulders. It was a bathroom selfie taken in a New York City hotel in December as she held onto a hair of box hair dye before darkening her roots. The ex of Eddie Van Halen was celebrating becoming a senior citizen. 'April 23, 1960, 8:00p Wilmington, Delaware, Taurus sun, Aries moon, Scorpio rising,' she began her caption. 'Went through it all in the last handful of years and I'm so grateful for the downs as much as I am for all of the ups I am blessed to experience. The light at the end of the tunnel is finally here. I can see it. I feel it.' She added: 'I love my family. I love my friends. I love all of you out there supporting me and being a part of our community here. I am one lucky and grateful mofo. XOXO ♥️.' When she first shared the lingerie photo in December her caption had her usual brave candor and easygoing sense of humor. 'At some point I will talk about the madness my body has been through this year,' she wrote to her followers. 'But right now every lump, bump, wrinkle and saggy part of me just feels acceptance and simple appreciation to be standing in front of a mirror in a hotel bathroom in downtown Manhattan ready to color my roots late on a Monday night.' Bertinelli has been busy these days. She is working with friend Drew Barrymore on her talk show in NYC. Valerie is also getting over her split from lifestyle writer Mike Goodnough, 53. They broke up in early November after 10 months of dating. He is 10 years younger than Valerie. Goodnough once again spoke out about their past relationship—just days after deleting an Instagram post in which he criticized the actress for publicly discussing their breakup. Although their relationship ended months ago, Goodnough has continued to comment on it via social media. Earlier this month, he posted on Instagram to say he wasn't engaging in a 'war of words' with his ex, though he also accused her of making 'hostile, dishonest, and uncalled-for backhanded swipes.' He later deleted the post and replaced it with a new message reflecting on the breakup, writing that he has 'cried about it enough' and is trying to move on. On Sunday, Goodnough addressed the topic again— this time on Threads —responding to a commenter who suggested Bertinelli had ended things. 'I ended the relationship,' he wrote, adding, 'You tried though. You really tried.' The comment comes after Goodnough appeared to make a subtle dig at Bertinelli in his April Instagram rant, writing, 'Unfortunately, over the past two months, Valerie has been prone to lapsing into a place where she has been playing a one-woman tennis match thinking there is someone on the other side of the net.' He went on to accuse her of misinterpreting his words, adding, 'When in that place, she reads all of my posts, centers herself in them, takes offense over wholly imagined slights, and then lashes out angrily with a 'response' to things that were neither to her or about her.' The result, he claimed, was a false narrative of an ongoing feud. 'Among people who follow us both, that behavior has created the impression that we are going back-and-forth. We are not.' Despite the pointed remarks, Goodnough insisted he still cares for Bertinelli. Reflecting on their past, he shared a bittersweet memory. 'Exactly one year ago, Valerie and I were together for the launch of her book. It was one of the most joyful weeks of my life. In April 2024 she Bertinelli said she 'can't just blame' her ex-husband Tom Vitale for their 'toxic, horrible marriage'. The actress acknowledges that Vitale wasn't entirely responsible for their failed marriage. During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Valerie explained: 'I can't just blame my ex-husband for a toxic, horrible marriage. It's not his fault. 'What led me to that? Oh, childhood! That's the stuff I got to start working on. 'I've found that when my gratitude is really placed in even the challenging, hard times, that's when the growth really happens.' Valerie explained that she's still working through her own childhood trauma. The actress acknowledges that her troubled past continues to influence her life.

Valerie Bertinelli's ex Mike Goodnough can't stop talking about her as he now reveals who ended relationship

Valerie Bertinelli's ex Mike Goodnough is once again speaking out about their past relationship—just days after deleting an Instagram post in which he criticized the actress for publicly discussing their breakup. Bertinelli, 64, dated the 54-year-old lifestyle writer for 10 months, from March to November 2024. 'Taking true deep joy from Valerie's happiness and success was the easiest thing in the world. It is no harder now.' While Goodnough accuses Bertinelli of taking swipes, she had nothing but praise for him earlier this month, calling herself 'so lucky' to have met him and to have him in her life in a heartfelt Instagram post. In her tribute, the actress gave a nod to his newsletter Hoarse Whisperings and showered him with compliments, describing his writing as 'ridiculously beautiful' and praising both his talent and character. Alongside her glowing words, she shared a black-and-white selfie of the two cuddled up, her head resting on his shoulder, along with a screenshot of his Substack newsletter header. Just two weeks earlier, she also said she 'fumbled the last good man' following her 'two failed marriages.'

Valerie Bertinelli's ex accuses her of taking 'backhanded swipes' at him in 'hostile' social media posts

Valerie Bertinelli's ex-boyfriend, Mike Goodnough, accused the former Food Network star of taking "backhanded swipes" at him in her Instagram posts when he spoke out about speculation the two were engaged in a subtle feud on social media. The 54-year-old writer and Bertinelli, 64, called it quits in November after 10 months of dating. On Monday, Goodnough responded to the many "messages and replies" he said he had received, which implied the duo "appear to be communicating with each other via our Instagram posts and stories." "That is not the case," he wrote in a lengthy Instagram post. "I have never at any time posted something on social media for the purposes of communicating with someone indirectly when I know them personally and have ample ways to reach them directly. "I have never at any time posted something for the purpose of getting a message to someone or getting reaction out of someone," Goodnough added. "I've never posted something in an effort to impact someone's feelings about me privately or to influence others' opinions of them publicly. "I am an adult," he added. "I am very capable of communicating openly and directly with people I know and care about."Goodnough asserted that he still cared for Bertinelli despite their split, writing, "I have love for her and I always will. "I want her to be happy," he wrote. "It will bring me nothing but joy to see that she is." Goodnough recalled that he was by Bertinelli's side a year ago for the launch of her cookbook "Indulge," describing the time as "one of the most joyful weeks of my life." "Taking true deep joy from Valerie's happiness and success was the easiest thing in the world," he wrote. "It is no harder now."Our relationship as partners ended," Goodnough added. "My caring about her did not." While Goodnough claimed that none of his posts were directed at Bertinelli, he slammed the "One Day at a Time" actress for allegedly taking shots at him on social media after their breakup. "Unfortunately, over the past two months, Valerie has been prone to lapsing into a place where she has been playing a one-woman tennis match thinking there is someone on the other side of the net," Goodnough wrote. "When in that place, she reads all of my posts, centers herself in them, takes offense over wholly imagined slights, and then lashes out angrily with a 'response' to things that were neither to her or about her." Goodnough claimed Bertinelli's posts had given their mutual followers the impression the two were engaged in a "back-and-forth," which he denied. However, he did not specify which of Bertinelli's posts he was referring to in his remarks. "I am not communicating with Valerie via my posts," he wrote. "I am not engaging with the things she posts. "While I am disappointed in the array of hostile, dishonest, and uncalled for backhanded swipes she continues to take at me, there is no war between us. "She just won't stop shooting. Valerie is in a war with her ghosts. I'm just the guy who catches the bullets. And that isn't new." A representative for Bertinelli did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment. In a February Instagram post, Bertinelli reflected on what makes relationships work, writing that she had "fumbled the last true good man I met." Bertinelli heaped praise on Goodnough in a since-deleted post that she shared last month. According to People magazine, the Delaware native wrote that she felt "so lucky to have gotten to know him," and she was "irreversibly changed by him for the better." She also encouraged her fans to subscribe to his newsletter, Hoarse Whisperings, so they could "get the beautiful gift of what it's like to be in his orbit." The "Hot In Cleveland" actress first revealed she was in a new relationship in March 2024. Bertinelli and Goodnough went public with their relationship on social media one month later, with the celebrity chef posting a photo of them together, with the caption, "I'll drink what you think and I'm high from smokin' your jokes all damn night." Bertinelli was previously married to Tom Vitale from 2011 to 2022, and the actress described their divorce as "wicked." Prior to her marriage to Vitale, Bertinelli was married to musician Eddie Van Halen from 1981 to 2007.
