YSRCP condemns PPP model in medical education, plans protest
Kurnool: TheYSR Congress Party (YSRCP) student wing has strongly condemned the implementation of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in medical education by the State Government, calling it a discriminatory move that favors corporate interests over the rights of meritorious students from poor and middle-class backgrounds. Addressing a press conference here on Friday at the YSRCP district office in Kurnool, State student wing spokesperson Katike Gowtham alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is promoting the PPP policy to benefit private players at the expense of deserving students. He warned that the policy would push medical education further out of reach for economically disadvantaged students, even if they possess the required merit. In response, the YSRCP student wing announced a statewide protest and will submit a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada on July 7, demanding the rollback of the PPP policy. Gowtham called upon student leaders and activists to participate in large numbers and stand united against what he described as an 'anti-student' agenda. The student wing also criticized the recent police action against young medical professionals demanding their Permanent Registration (PR), labeling it as undemocratic and oppressive. 'Qualified medical graduates were subjected to humiliation and manhandled by the police simply for demanding their rights,' said Gowtham. Supporting the cause, Kurnool City student wing president Ansar stated that the government will be held accountable for the injustice meted out to students. Other leaders present at the event included B. Srikanth Reddy, Sridhar from Kodumur constituency, and Tirumalesh.

Timely rescue of Indian gaur entangled in PVC pipe at Ooty
The forest department prevented what could have possibly led to the death of an Indian gaur in the Nilgiris forest division through swift action on Sunday (June 29, 2025). Local residents in the areas surrounding the Kattabettu forest range near Kotagiri had noticed a five-year-old gaur with a wound caused by a piece of PVC pipe that had gotten ensnared around its legThey notified members of local NGOs, who in turn alerted the Divisional Forest Officer (Nilgiris division), S. Gowtham. Acting on the information, Mr. Gowtham dispatched a team of forest department staff including forest rangers and veterinarians to the spot on Sunday to treat the animal. Forest department officials stated that the animal was tracked to a location near a residential area in Kattabettu range. Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (Theppakadu Elephant Camp), Rajesh Kumar, was called in to tranquilize the animal and treat its wounds, they said. The animal was tranquilized and the piece of PVC pipe was removed by the team of forest department staff, who ensured that the animal recovered before watching it reunite with its herd nearby, officials stated. Over the last few years, a number of Indian gaurs have become injured due to their foot getting stuck in PVC pipes from construction sites and farm lands, said local conservationists, urging residents to never discard waste from construction sites in open areas. N. Sadiq Ali, founder of the Wildlife and Nature Conservation Trust (WNCT), commended them for their swift response to the situation. 'If the intervention had not been undertaken so quickly, the chances of the wound becoming severely infected and the animal dying increase exponentially,' said Mr. Sadiq, who was among those who had alerted the forest department.

YSRCP slams govt over forced mobilisation of tribal students for yoga
Kurnool: YSRCP student wing state spokesperson Kattike Gowtham strongly criticised the state government's alleged exploitation of tribal students in the name of a Guinness World Record attempt and political appeasement. He alleged that over 26,000 tribal students from government schools and welfare hostels were forcibly transported at 2 am in the night to participate in the 'Yogandhra' event, merely to boost the image of the coalition government and impress Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gowtham speaking to The Hans India on Saturday expressed outrage over the government's negligence in providing even basic amenities for the children during the late-night transportation, pointing out that the students were deprived of proper rest and comfort. He questioned whether ministers, MLAs, and senior officials would be willing to subject their own children to such treatment. The incident, he said, reflects a deeper apathy towards tribal welfare, as these students have long suffered from lack of nutritious food and poor hostel facilities. He further slammed the government for failing to provide essential medical support to tribal students suffering from common ailments such as fever and vomiting, with no health workers or ambulances available in emergencies. Yet, for this publicity-driven yoga event, the administration managed to deploy special buses in the middle of the night. If the government truly cared about tribal welfare, he demanded that it should start sports schools in tribal regions rather than use these children for photo ops. Responding to education minister Nara Lokesh's statement lauding student participation in the Yogandhra event, Gowtham asserted that the government should first ensure basic necessities like nutrition and healthcare before celebrating such large-scale events. He warned that if such shameful practices continue, the YSRCP student wing will stage large-scale protests across the state to protect the rights and dignity of tribal students.

This player won 2 IPL tittle with CSK and MI without playing a single game, considered biggest show off buy, his name is...... New Delhi: Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen a lot of players being bought on the promise of talent but none was better than a choice Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made ahead of IPL 2021 auction. They bought a player from Punjab Kings (then KXIP) for INR 9.25 crore (US$ 1,273,000 approx.) but never played him in the season. Moreover, CSK won the title in IPL 2021 and the player – Krishnappa Gotham – went on to win the title without breaking a sweat and pocketing all the money. Before he won with CSK, he already had a title to his name with Mumbai Indians in 2017 – that too without playing for them in the season. Isn't Krishnappa Gowtham the quirkiest buy of the IPL history? Let's have a look at his journey: Gowtham is only one of the 10 players to win a title with both MI (2017) and CSK (2021) but the only player to do so without playing a single game for any of the franchise. He even played for India in one off ODI in July 2021 against Sri Lanka and that remains his only international appearance. It was with Rajasthan Royals in 2018 that Gowtham caught limelight of Shane Warne – Royals skipper during 2008 IPL title win. He played full season with RR in IPL 2018 and took 11 wickets – showing promise. He also took the team to win against MI with 11 ball 33 not out in a crunch game. Krishnappa Gowtham's IPL career has been full of ups and downs. In the year 2018, he played the most 15 matches and scored 126 runs, with his highest score being 33* and his strike rate being 196.87. After this, in 2019, he scored 18 runs in 7 matches, while in 2020 he scored 42 runs while playing in just 2 matches, with 22* being his best score and an average of 42.00. In the year 2022, Gowtham got 4 matches but he could not score a single run. In 2023, he scored 61 runs in 7 matches, with 23 being his highest score and his strike rate being 164.86. In 2024, he played only one match but did not bat. Overall, Krishnappa Gowtham has scored 247 runs in 36 matches in the IPL so far, with his best score being 33*.
