YSRCP condemns PPP model in medical education, plans protest
Addressing a press conference here on Friday at the YSRCP district office in Kurnool, State student wing spokesperson Katike Gowtham alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is promoting the PPP policy to benefit private players at the expense of deserving students.
He warned that the policy would push medical education further out of reach for economically disadvantaged students, even if they possess the required merit.
In response, the YSRCP student wing announced a statewide protest and will submit a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada on July 7, demanding the rollback of the PPP policy.
Gowtham called upon student leaders and activists to participate in large numbers and stand united against what he described as an 'anti-student' agenda.
The student wing also criticized the recent police action against young medical professionals demanding their Permanent Registration (PR), labeling it as undemocratic and oppressive.
'Qualified medical graduates were subjected to humiliation and manhandled by the police simply for demanding their rights,' said Gowtham. Supporting the cause, Kurnool City student wing president Ansar stated that the government will be held accountable for the injustice meted out to students. Other leaders present at the event included B. Srikanth Reddy, Sridhar from Kodumur constituency, and Tirumalesh.

Reduce GST on mango pulp from 12% to 5%, Atchannaidu urges Union Agriculture Minister
Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu has urged the Central government to extend strong support for the revival of the agriculture sector in the State. Mr. Atchannaidu met Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday in New Delhi and pressed for a reduction in GST on mango pulp from 12% to 5%, highlighting the distress of mango farmers in Chittoor, Tirupati and Annamayya districts. Restoration of courses In a key development, the Minister announced that the Centre has approved the restoration of third and fourth-year and A.H. courses at the Garividi Veterinary College under Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University for 2022–23 and 2023–24, after a gap of two years. Mr. Atchannaidu accused Mr. Jagan of staging political events under the guise of condolence visits, alleging misuse of funds and mobilisation of crowds from outside. He warned that the government would not tolerate any disruption to public order. Highlighting recent support for mango farmers, the Minister said 3.5 lakh tonnes of mangoes had been procured at ₹12 per kg, and a proposal for ₹130 crore under the Market Intervention Scheme had been sent to the Centre. He dismissed claims of fertilizer shortages, stating that over 8.73 lakh tonnes are available in stock. Urging the farmers not to believe misinformation spread by YSRCP leaders, he assured that the government is taking timely steps and ensuring fertilizers are available through private dealers, societies and Rythu Seva Kendras. He warned that dealers creating artificial scarcity or selling fertilizers above MRP would face strict action. He reiterated the government's commitment to putting the agriculture sector back on track with the Centre's cooperation.

Alleging the failure of the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh to deliver on its poll promises, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Guntur district president Ambati Rambabu launched a satirical DJ song titled 'Chandramukhi Super Flop 6' at a public meeting in Tenali on Monday. The event was themed 'Babu Surety - Fraud Guarantee,' targeting the alleged mismatch between the promises and performance of the current administration. Tension at NTRUHS as students clash with police opposing privatisation of government medical colleges
In a protest against the proposed privatisation of newly-established government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh, student leaders affiliated with the YSRCP students' wing laid siege to Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) on Monday. The protest witnessed high tension as students clashed with police, resulting in a brief scuffle. The protesting students demanded that the 17 government medical colleges, established during the tenure of former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, should not be handed over to private partners under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. They warned that such a move would deprive poor and meritorious students of affordable medical education. Addressing the gathering, YSRCP State student wing president Panuganti Chaitanya and State working president A. Ravichandra emphasised that these colleges were established with a vision to make medical education accessible to underprivileged students. They pointed out that the Jagan government had allocated ₹8,480 crore for the development of these institutions. 'In the 2023–24 academic year alone, 150 MBBS seats each were sanctioned to five new colleges in Vizianagaram, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Machilipatnam, and Nandyal, totalling 750 seats,' they said. Additional seats were approved later for colleges in Pulivendula, Paderu, Madanapalle, Markapuram, and Adoni. However, after the change in government, the coalition administration allegedly failed to pursue further approvals or expansion efforts, they added. They further criticised Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, and the TDP-JSP-BJP alliance for remaining silent on the issue. 'Privatisation will lead to commercialisation, and students unable to afford lakhs of rupees will be pushed out of medical education,' they alleged.
